Chapter 525 He Wasn’t Happy
Chapter 525 He Wasn’t Happy
The Whatsapp notification showed that a stranger wanted to add Clarissa as their contact. The
verification message wrote, ‘This is Rebecca Steward.’
Clarissa was shocked to see that. It had been a long time since she talked to Rebecca.
After she added her into her contact list, Clarissa wasn’t able to greet her before she received a long
message.
Rebecca: [Clarissa, what the hell? Why didn’t you contact me when you came back from overseas? Is
it because you’re too arrogant now that you’ve received your doctorate? Not to mention, you didn’t
come visit me as well! If it wasn’t for Penelope sending Mr. Lawrence a marriage advertisement in
secret, I wouldn’t have found out that you had already returned! Are you even my friend?]
Clarissa just smiled when she saw the message.
Now that she couldn’t go home, she no longer wanted to blow-dry her hair. She replied to Rebecca’s
message while rubbing her hair with a towel.
Clarissa: [I’ve been teaching in the University of Florin, so I’m super busy. I’ve been preparing my
lecture notes while carrying out my duties as a lecturer. You know the drill, Rebeca. I’ve been meaning
to visit you for a long time, but I’m afraid that I might not be able to fulfill the promises I made to you.
How are you doing lately? And how long do you plan on staying single?]
Rebecca: [Ugh! I don’t want to talk about that! Howard is staying at my place these days.]
Clarissa: [Who?]
She had almost forgotten about that man.
Howard Brooks was the previous finance director of New East Corporation. He was also Clarissa’s
former boss.
Rebecca: [Have you forgotten about your former boss? This guy spent three years in prison. When he
got released, his wife divorced him and won over the house and the kids’ custody. He’s definitely a man
who lost everything. That day, I bumped into him outside and ended up bringing him home. That night, This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
we slept together. Now, he spends his days tidying up the house and preparing meals for me. He
listens to me obediently and all, but why should I get stuck with a man like him? I don’t want someone
else’s leftovers!]
It was obvious Rebecca was very frustrated and was desperate to vent her feelings to someone, but
she was left without a choice.
Rebecca found herself ensnared by a man in her life right now. After all, they had already slept
together, so it was impossible to get rid of him so quickly.
Actually, Rebecca’s predicament was similar to Clarissa’s current situation. But since Clarissa wasn’t
familiar with the former’s situation, she was unable to judge them. She did hear of Howard attempting
to court Rebecca in the past, but Rebecca remained single all these years, so Clarissa couldn’t
comment on that.
Soon, Rebecca started telling Clarissa the tale of her and Howard in full detail.
When Rebecca was a freshman university student, Howard was already a third year student.
According to Rebecca, she was a gorgeous and charming beauty back in the day. Howard came from a
farming village, so he looked very ordinary and plain. There was no way Rebecca would ever look at
him. In fact, she wouldn’t even notice him.
However, there was one time when Rebecca went to fill her flask with hot water. Her hand got scalded
by accident, resulting in a blister forming on her skin. She was in so much pain that she almost dropped
the flask instinctively. Coincidentally, a plain-looking student happened to pass by that area and noticed
her plight. He grabbed her flask wordlessly and took it back to her dorm for her.
“Did you burn your hand?” he asked. “You should turn on the tap and let cold water run over your hand.
Hopefully it won’t leave you with any permanent scars.”
Since that guy looked so normal, Rebecca wasn’t touched by his actions. She even thought of him as a
busybody who couldn’t mind his own business. The next day, he gave her an ointment that could treat
her burn wound, but she didn’t develop any feelings for him.
During the university years, Rebecca didn’t care about anything Howard had done for her. It was until
he graduated from the university then he hooked up with a beautiful and rich woman. Whatever he had
done for Rebecca in the past, he did the same for the new woman. Gradually, Rebecca and Howard fell
out of contact. After he was arrested and thrown into prison, his beautiful and rich wife dumped him
immediately, so he set his eyes on Rebecca once again.
Clarissa kept staring at her phone the whole time.
All of Rebecca’s messages were very long. Clarissa would either giggle or sink into deep thought.
Then, her fingers flew across the keypad as she drafted a message for Rebecca.
“Aren’t you afraid you might damage your spine?” A cold voice suddenly drifted into her ear, startling
her and making her almost drop her phone.
Obviously, Damien was unhappy to see Clarissa focusing on her phone the entire time.
