A Reborn Bride Pearl Emerging from Dust

Chapter 519

Calliope sat across from the doctor, both of them lost in troubled thought.

Cases like Hudson's-they'd seen them before. But ones as tangled and complicated as his? Those were rare.

"I'll reach out to a few colleagues, see if anyone has fresh ideas," the doctor said, though his voice lacked conviction. "We already tried a panel consultation. Everyone came to the same conclusion."

"And now things have gotten even messier," he sighed, glancing through the glass at Hudson's unmoving form.

The truth hung heavy between them: for patients like Hudson, there was little left to do. The doctor knew it.

Calliope knew it. It was as if a judge had already passed the sentence-they just hadn't delivered the news.

Still, there was one last card to play: Calliope. She was known throughout the hospital as the Miracle Doctor. Her reputation was almost legendary. If anyone could do something about this, it was her.

But looking at Calliope now, the doctor saw even she was stumped. Miracle Doctor or not, she was only human. She wasn't some kind of saint or angel who could bring people back from the dead with a touch. Her miracles came from medicine, not magic.

"I'll call some experts I know, see if anyone's had success with cases like this," Calliope said, her eyes never leaving Hudson.noveldrama

The doctor nodded. He managed a strained smile. "That's all we can do. I know this is a lot of pressure. But all we can do is our best. Sometimes... sometimes there's just nothing more we can do. If that's the case, at least let's make sure he's comfortable. You know how it is with cancer patients at the end-it can be so cruel, so undignified."

Calliope nodded. "Managing his pain-I can do that much."

But stopping the tumor's wild growth? That was beyond her reach.

"For him, maybe that's already a blessing."

Not long after, the doctor was called away, leaving Calliope standing silently at Hudson's bedside.

Across the hat, Silas had just hung up a call. He glanced over, catching a bit of Calliope and the doctor's conversation. He knew what happening. Anyone could see. much Calliope cared about Hudson-he must be a close friend.

Silas frowned. If this guy died, it would hit Calliope hard. But there was nothing Silas could do. He wasn't a doctor, and even the best in the hospital had no answers. If Calliope couldn't fix it, nobody could.

Just then, Fagan appeared, catching sight of Calliope standing motionless at Hudson's side. He'd known she was overseas, but hadn't expected to literally run into her here.

"Mr. Myers, your wife's here on business too?" Fagan asked as he approached Silas.

Silas nodded.

"What's she doing here?" Fagan pressed, lowering his voice. "And who's that guy she's so worked up about?"

He shot Silas a wary look. Normally, Mr. Myers was the jealous type, but now he seemed perfectly calm, watching his wife without a hint of suspicion. It was strange.

But Silas wasn't jealous. Not in this situation. The man in the hospital bed was clinging to life, and whatever Calliope felt-whether it was friendship or the bond of doctor and patient-it wasn't love

Silas didn't worry.

"She's here for a friend. And a patient,” Silas said quietly, heading over to Calliope. He wrapped an arm gently around her shoulders and asked, voice soft, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
