Chapter 91: How Could I Compromise
Rex dragged Wendy back to the room and said angrily, “You’re not allowed to go anywhere!”
Following that, there was a loud bang as Wendy pounded on the door. “Rex Gavyn, you bastard! Open the door!”
A wave of bitterness surged in her heart, and the pain in her heart was far greater than the pain in her hand.
“If you want to leave, you’ll have to listen to me,” Rex’s deep voice came from outside the door.
To put it simply, he wanted her to compromise.
Wendy gave up. She withdrew her hand and stood inside the room, “Rex, you only can lock my body, not my heart.”
Rex’s face was grim and he closed his eyes. He didn’t say anything and went straight into the room next door.
That night, both of them lost sleep at the same time.
Perhaps she should decide on what to do.
In the morning, Wendy listened to the sounds outside. She guessed that Rex had gone to the company, so she hurriedly called John over.
“Uncle John, help me open the door.”
“The door?”
He lowered his head and glanced at the door. He reached out his hand and gently twisted it. The door immediately opened.
Wendy couldn’t care too much. She carried her bag and came out. After coming out, she locked the door from the outside and told him, “When Rex is back, tell him that I didn’t come out from inside, got it?”
“Mrs. Gavyn…”
But the door was not locked at all. If she locked it now, Rex would see it.
Before John could stop Wendy, she had already left and disappeared from his sight.
Because she was young, she walked very fast.
After Wendy walked out of the door, she quickly stopped a taxi on the side of the road. “Go to Starbucks.”
She lowered her head and composed a text message and sent it to Daisy. However, there was no response from the other side. She dialed the number directly, but she still did not answer the phone.
What was she doing?
Wendy looked through her address book. Just then, it suddenly rang, and she was so scared that she almost threw her phone away.
She lowered her head and saw “Halsey Green” on the screen.
“What did he call me for?”
“Hello?”
Halsey’s voice came from the other side of the phone, sounding a little tired. He was probably worried about the company affairs recently.
“Wendy, how is everything going?”
Wendy had always regarded him as her elder brother. After last night’s incident, she hated Rex very much. Now that someone had come to chat with her, she felt that he was closer to her.
“Halsey, are you free now?”
“Yes.”
……
Half an hour later, the taxi stopped outside Starbucks. Wendy got out of the car. The wind was strong outside, lifting her skirt.
“Put this on.” Halsey came out of nowhere and handed her a clean coat.
Wendy raised her head and smiled at him. She took the coat and put it on. “When did you come?”
“It’s not far from our company. Let’s go in.”
“Well.”
There were very few people in Starbucks and it was very quiet. The two of them chose a spot near the window and ordered a cup of coffee each.© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
“Did Rex do something bad to you again?” Halsey asked with a frown.
Wendy lowered her head and the more she thought about it, the sadder she felt. “It’s nothing.”
“If nothing happened, why are you so sad? I’ve known you for a long time. Do you think I can’t see it from your expression? Wendy, tell me the truth,” Halsey said.
Was it so obvious?
Wendy gave a faint smile as she said, “He’s not the same as before, no… he’s not the one who has changed, it’s me.”
Halsey frowned and said, “Wendy, don’t make yourself suffer. Stay away from him.”
“But I’m pregnant with his child.”
With a boom, Halsey felt as if a bomb had exploded in his heart, and he was stunned.
He suddenly remembered seeing her and Daisy in Star Mall. It turned out that at that time…
Halsey grabbed Wendy’s hand and stared at her. “Don’t be afraid. With me here, I can raise you and your child.”
Wendy suddenly smiled and pulled her hand away from his. “Don’t joke around. Don’t you think it’s embarrassing? I think it’s embarrassing, but I’m just thinking about one thing.”
“What is it?”
Just as they were talking, there was the sound of a camera on the other side of the road. Several photos were captured. Halsey’s observation ability was extremely sharp. He immediately noticed that something was wrong and immediately picked up the menu on the table to block Wendy’s face.
Wendy was stunned by his action and she asked, “What happened?”
Halsey’s eyes were sharp as he said, “Someone is secretly taking photos of us.”
“Huh?” Wendy let out a startled cry. She looked around and immediately lowered her voice. “How did you know?”
“With the experience from the last time, I will naturally be on guard. I didn’t expect that I was still taken advantage of. Don’t worry, these people will regret it sooner or later.”
Wendy’s heart trembled as she asked, “What are you trying to do?”
“I will make them…” Halsey’s eyes turned cold, “Die.”
Wendy rushed home before the sky turned dark. Just as she was about to tiptoe upstairs, a cold voice rang out behind her, catching her off guard.
“Where did you go?”
Wendy blinked a few times before slowly turning around, “I… just went to…”
“Think about how you’re going to lie to me. Then come find me in the study.” Rex walked past her indifferently and entered the study.
Wendy looked at his back with puzzlement written all over her face.
He wasn’t angry?
The study was full of books as if someone had robbed it. There wasn’t even a place to stand inside, and Wendy couldn’t decide whether to leave or stay.
Rex didn’t even spare her a glance as he ordered, “Come in.”
“Oh.” Wendy carefully walked in, trying her best not to step on the books. However, she accidentally tripped over a big dictionary and lost her balance. She panicked and immediately grabbed Rex’s arm.
She grabbed it very hard.
Rex glared at her, and Wendy immediately let go of his arm. She leaned against the desk behind her and stared at his red arm.
“So-sorry…”
Rex threw a book to the ground with a deafening sound. Wendy was so scared that her entire body trembled. As she watched him slowly approach her, she almost forgot to breathe and her face was flushed red.
“You were able to escape, huh?” Rex pinched her chin and questioned.
Wendy thought about it for a moment. Could it be that John told it due to Rex’s authority?
“That’s impossible. It’s perfect.”
Rex saw that she didn’t respond, so he let go of her and said, “Come and put these books in order.”
