Chapter 111
I pushed through the doors of the packhouse, my heart racing. The air inside was thick with tension. Sara's voice, sharp and wounded, echoed down the hall, and I could hear Adonis, his booming tone rising and falling like he was trying to get a handle on his emotions. But that was the problem-he never could when it came to Sara.
"You are banished and I don't want a daughter like you. I already have one." Adonis' voice came through.
"Why, Adonis?" I heard her shout. "Why was it always her?"
I rushed forward, finding them in the main room, facing off like two storms about to collide. Sara's face was flushed with anger, her eyes blazing. Adonis stood tall, his hands trembling as they gripped the back of a chair, the weight of his guilt bearing down on him.
Ryan caught my eye from the corner of the room, standing quietly, watching the unfolding disaster with that steady calm of his. He gave me a small nod, urging me forward.
"It was never-" Adonis started, but Sara cut him off.
"No! Don't you dare say it was to protect me," Sara spat, her voice trembling with hurt. "You didn't protect me, Adonis. You pushed me aside, like I was nothing."
I stepped in between them, feeling the heat of their emotions swirl around me. "Enough," I said, my voice firmer than I felt. "This isn't helping anyone. Adonis, Sara-both of you need to stop and listen."
Sara shot me a look that could have burned a hole through me. "Stay out of this, Ella. You've always been his favorite. He's always chosen you over me, so what do you even know about being ignored?"
Her words stung, more than I wanted to admit. I opened my mouth to respond, but Adonis's voice broke through, raw and hoarse.
"I never meant for it to be like this," he said, his voice cracking. He looked at Sara, his eyes filled with regret. "Sara, I didn't forget you. I couldn't—"
"You did," Sara snapped, stepping closer, her voice thick with emotion. "Ever since Ella showed up, it's like I disappeared. Like I was never enough. Do you even realize how that feels?"
Adonis faltered, his eyes filling with tears. He looked older suddenly, as if the years of holding everything in were finally catching up to him. "I was trying to do what was right. I didn't know what else to do after I found her, after all those years."
"You found her," Sara echoed bitterly. "And lost me. You can't even see that, can you?"
Ryan cleared his throat quietly, moving toward Sara. "Sara, it wasn't about forgetting you."
She whipped around, her anger spilling over onto him. "Don't. Just don't defend him. I've heard enough excuses."
I took a step forward, placing a hand on Sara's shoulder. She tensed beneath my touch, but she didn't shake me off. "Sara, this isn't about choosing one of us over the other. I know it feels like that, but-"
"Feels like?" Sara's voice trembled, tears filling her eyes. "It was like that, Ella. You were his prize. I was just the girl left behind, always in the shadow of the 'perfect daughter' he never knew existed."
The pain in her voice cut through me. "I'm not perfect, and neither is he."
Adonis let out a shaky breath, his shoulders slumping. "Sara, I was afraid. Afraid of losing you too. I thought if I could fix things with Ella, it would make everything right. I didn't realize I was pushing you further away."
Sara shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks. "It's not just about you finding her, Adonis. It's about you making me feel like I didn't matter anymore. Like I wasn't enough."
"I never wanted to make you feel that way," Adonis said, his voice breaking. "I thought... I thought I was doing the right thing, trying to fix the past. I didn't see that I was hurting you in the process."
Sara's anger seemed to waver, the pain in her eyes deepening. "You were so caught up in Ella that you forgot I was still here, right in front of you, waiting for you to see me."
Adonis's breath hitched, and for the first time, I saw the cracks in his armor. He wasn't just an Alpha anymore. He was a father who had lost his way.
"Sara..." Adonis's voice was a whisper now, trembling with emotion. "You are my daughter too. I'm so proud of you. I always have been. I just didn't know how to show it. I was scared, and I let that fear blind me."
Sara's lips quivered, her anger finally giving way to the hurt that had been buried for so long. "It's not enough, Adonis. It's not enough to just say it now."
Adonis stepped forward, his hands shaking as he reached for her. "I know. But I'm saying it because it's the truth. I've made so many mistakes, and I can't undo them. But I can try to be better, for you."
There was a beat of silence, thick
and heavy. And then, finally, Sara let out a choked sob, covering her face
with her hands. "You should have told me that sooner," she whispered, her voice cracking with the weight of everything she had held in
Adonis pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly as she cried against his chest. "I'm sorry," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm so sorry, Sara."
I watched, my own chest tight, as Sara broke down in his arms. She had needed this for so long, and now that it was finally happening, I felt the weight of it lifting off all of us.
Ryan stepped beside me as we both watched the scene unfold. There were no words to fix what had happened, but there was understanding now. A bridge that had been missing for far too long was finally being rebuilt.
Qu
After what felt like an eternity, Adonis pulled back, wiping the tears from Sara's cheeks. His own face was wet with tears, his usually strong demeanor shattered. "I'm proud of you, Sara. More than you'll ever know."
She sniffed, wiping at her eyes with the back of her hand. "It's about time you said that."
Adonis chuckled softly, a sad, broken sound. "I know."
With the matter settled, the tension in the room slowly ebbed away. I exchanged a glance with Ryan, and he gave me a small nod of approval.
"I think it's time for me to go," I said gently, my voice cutting through the fragile
peace that had settled.
Sara looked at me, her eyes still red from crying, but she managed a small, grateful smile. "Thank you, Ella. For everything."
I smiled back, pulling her into a hug. "Always."
With one final look at Adonis, who gave me a nod of appreciation, I turned and made my way out of the packhouse, twins were waiting for me at the Airport.
As the plane lifted off, I stared out at the clouds, my heart heavy but hopeful. We had healed one rift today, but there was still so much
left to face. Still, for now, I all metnoveldrama
myself a small moment of peace, knowing that we had done something good.
