Chapter 277
Chapter 277
Wanda was calling for Mikayla, so she went over.
“You and Jerome should stay over tonight,” Wanda said as she held Mikayla’s hand. “Kay, you promised me yesterday. You won’t turn back on your own words, right?”
“Of course, I won’t. I’ll visit you often in the future as long as you aren’t fed up with me.”
Mikayla wasn’t bothered about staying overnight. It was just one night, after all. Furthermore, she actually meant it when she mentioned visiting Wanda in the future.
Wanda was unfazed. Her tone was laced with realization as she asked, “Did Zachary cause you any trouble earlier? I know you aren’t impolite. You just did that because you were cornered.”
Mikayla sighed. Wanda understood her so well that she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her.
She answered, “Not really. It was partly my fault as well.”
Wanda refrained from asking any more questions and led her to her room instead. Molly produced a box in her safe and handed it over to Wanda before she left.
Wanda opened the box and took out a necklace. The necklace was platinum, adorned with an extremely lavish diamond.
“Kay, I initially wanted to put this on you during your wedding. It’s a shame…” Her words trailed off as she handed the necklace to Mikayla. “No matter what happens between you and Jerome, I hope you’ll stay happy.”
Mikayla didn’t dare to take it from her. “Grandma, I’m very grateful for your kindness. I really can’t take this.
“It’s just a necklace,” Wanda said, smiling. “Come, let me put it on you.”
Unable to resist Wanda’s invitation, Mikayla crouched down in front of her, allowing her to clasp the
necklace around her neck.
The diamond pendant’s weight was tangible. As its coolness brushed against her skin, a lump welled up
in her throat.
“Thank you, Grandma.” Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Don’t blame yourself for the marriage. You’re not wrong for being brave in pursuing your love. It’s Jerome’s fault for not appreciating you.”
Holding Mikayla’s hand, Wanda crooned, “Though I’ve always wanted you to be my granddaughter–in–law,
I can’t impose on you. Marriage is meant to make one happy, and so is a divorce.
Tears trickled down Mikayla’s cheeks. “Thank you, Grandma.”
They spoke for a while, and she decided to let Wanda rest after noticing the signs of fatigue on her face. She returned to the room Wanda prepared for her..
The room was snug and comfortable, specifically decorated for a loving couple. She had only spent one night with Jerome in this room before. He had kept himself busy with work back then. He spent the night. dealing with his mail and slept on the couch afterward.
He barely approached the bed, let alone get intimate with her.
Jerome was already propping himself against the bed when Mikayla entered the room. Judging from hist flushed face and drowsy eyes, he seemed intoxicated. His tle was loose, and three of his buttons were open, revealing his toned chest.
A cup of tea was placed on the bedside table, yet it was still full.
His gaze darted toward her once he heard her entering the room. He stared at the pendant on her neck for a while. His eyes suddenly lit up as if he was reminded of something.
Mikayla removed the necklace and stowed it in her bag. “Louisa said she has gotten in touch with your friend in Aveloria. Thanks.”
Jerome was still silent, fixing his gaze on her.
She gave no heed to him and sat down at the desk. Making herself comfortable in the chair, she turned on the computer and began skimming through the contract Stephen’s secretary sent.
The contract terms were lengthy. Worried that there might be some loopholes, Mikayla scrutinized each section carefully.
Strangely, she felt like there didn’t seem to be any major issues with the contract upon closer inspection.
She flipped back through the pages of the contract again.
“The penalty for breach of contract is steep. The standards for product acceptance should also be specified in more detail,” Jerome suddenly rumbled in her ear.
