Chapter 1541
When Waverly stepped out of the store, she heard the sentence. The corner of her lips twitched involuntarily in ridicule and pain.
Waverly, who had been in high spirits the whole day, went drooping like a wilted flower when she got into the car. She could barely force a smile.
Starting the car engine, Harry raised his hand and stroked her hair. "Who are you hiding from?"
Harry was very certain of his question. When she instantly recovered her senses, Waverly shook her head. "No!"
"Are you in love?"
Perhaps, only love could cause her, who was carefree, to reveal such a confused and hurt look!
"No! Harry, let's eat! I'm starving!"
Knowing that she was changing the topic, Harry said nothing. "My girl has grown up, and there are some things that I can't ask as a man! If there's a woman in the family, will she be able to communicate better with her?" Harry pondered.
At once, Harry's heart itched.
Wyatt's mind, which had just calmed down, was stirred again. He couldn't listen to a word Yurina said. When he was stuffed with a cactus pot in his hand, he didn't refuse and left the place muddleheaded.
Throughout the meal, Wyatt and Yurina were absentminded and were not in the mood to taste the food. On the other end, Waverly flipped through the savory dishes. Even after she had been lamenting about how hungry she was for a long time, she was constantly distracted...
After a short period of interaction, the life of the two seemed to return to their respective paths. Wyatt no longer ran into Waverly, but in the following week, his soul seemed to have been sucked out as he was dispirited in everything he did. One day, he ended the meeting in a daze. When he returned to his office, Wyatt's ears buzzed, and he felt uncomfortable all over.
After making coffee, he returned to his seat and picked up the pen, but it was then he could suddenly not remember what he had wanted to attend to. Right then, a slight knocking on the door came, along with him lowering his hand raised mid-air.
"Come in!"
Taking a document, Seth entered the room and could detect Wyatt's abnormal state with a glance. He set the document on the table and walked straight to the side.
"Would you like to add sugar?"
"Yes, two pieces!"
Seth turned to glance at him before placing the two cups down and adding two pieces of sugar cubes to one of them. He carried the cups back and placed them in front of Wyatt.
"If you don't treat the missing emotions in your heart, what's the use of adding more sugar? Wyatt, is there something wrong? Recently, why do you seem weak and absentminded? Do you need my help?"
It would be great if he was of help!
Wyatt lifted his cup and took a sip of his coffee. Indeed, he could not taste the sweetness in it. He was really upset. Ever since he had decided to give her up, he had never felt a trace of joy!
He had initially thought that it was because he was not used to it and would turn out fine after a few days, but in recent days, his condition seemed to deteriorate. He couldn't even fall asleep!
What the hell was going on?
Subconsciously, he raised his hand and knocked on his head, his chaotic mind.
"Wyatt, are you okay? Why don't you take a vacation to relax? The United Kingdom and France sound great!"
He would be fine if he didn't mention it, but at the mention of the topic, Wyatt felt a throbbing headache. With a wave, he thought to himself, "Women are really troublesome!
Any contact with them spells trouble!"
Right then, Wyatt was regretful. He didn't know why he had to provoke the young widow, which caused him not to be able to free himself from her right then!
Seth also knew that he had gotten on his nerves. He immediately changed the topic.
"By the way, Wyatt, we've just received news about the 'Stefan' that escaped from our hands. We haven't found him, but we've made some progress. We received news that he was in close contact with a woman. We also suspect that he had a very deep network of connections in Casterwich City, so we weren't able to find him when we invested so much manpower and material resources, to the point where there were no suspects! We analyzed and confirmed that someone must have come to rescue him that day. Perhaps he abandoned the items or transferred them somewhere. That was why when we were chasing after him, he might not have been fleeing at all..."
As soon as Seth mentioned it, Wyatt came to an immediate understanding. "You're saying that he's one of the passers-by who might have brushed past us that day!"
That was right!
The most dangerous place was often the safest!
It could explain why they had failed to get their hands on him although they carried out a thorough investigation. It was because he had swaggered away! They had been chasing and running all the way. If he had something in hand, he would be afraid of losing it or running into an accident, but if he transferred it to another person, why should he flee? Even if he fell into their trap and refused to admit it, there was nothing they could do because they had never seen it, nor were they confident that he was the culprit!
It was their negligence!
That said, although it had been quite late, there had been quite a crowd, not to mention how they had been all focused on chasing after the man and had been in the dark. Even if they checked the surveillance footage, they couldn't remember his face.
After giving it some thought, Wyatt came to realize that someone must have come to his aid!
"The person who came to help..."
They had been chasing him so closely, so how could he have time to hand it over? It was impossible unless they had agreed on meeting up, so they could transfer the item over without conversing! For example, he could head to the meeting point to meet up with a certain individual!
Besides, that person must not arouse suspicions and must be able to swagger away from under their eyes!
Their eyes met, and the two of them cried out almost in unison, "A woman!"
Seth nodded and went on to say.
"It should be! Aecording to the information received, they found a woman's figure from surveillance footage. After checking and
investigating several times net
over,
they could confirm that she had direct and even frontal contact with Samar. She's the main suspect for now. They've probably found the woman's position and were saying that they would find the chance to secretly kidnap and interrogate her. Wyatt, what do you think? Do you want to go and have a look?"
"Who is it? Are you sure?"
They had better not go for wool and come home shorn. Them being able to obtain
clues was secondary. They had better not cause him trouble!
Seth shook his head, somewhat uncertain as he pondered, "Uh... She's probably not someone important, is she?"
How could a woman with high status have anything to do with a lowly person like
him?
Hearing his tone, Wyatt knew that they were ready to start before they could investigate!
With his finger tapping against the table, Wyatt said, "Tell them to stay alert and know what they're doing. Take her to Lexton Residence. I have a villa in the neighborhood. We'll talk after I've gone over!"
"Okay! I'll contact them right away!"
On that day, Wyatt was in a daze. Not knowing why, he was not even in the mood
for dinner at night. After chugging down two bottles of beverages, he sat still in a trance. It was only after receiving Seth's call that he headed out.noveldrama
He went straight to the villa in the suburbs. Wyatt and Seth happened to meet at the gate. "Did you bring her here?"
Nodding, Seth led the way as he said.
"We did! She was blindfolded, and we took her on a longer path than usual, so I think she won't know who we are. They claimed her to be an ordinary worker and
not a powerful individual! I guess they're in the middle of interrogating her!"
"Hmm."
After a simple briefing, they went straight to the house.
As soon as they entered the door, a sharp female voice cried, "Ah! Who are you? Don't come over! What are you doing?"
The familiar voice knocked on his heart like the beating of a drum. Halting in his tracks, Wyatt was stunned for three seconds.
What was going on?
Shaking his head, Wyatt could not help but have the corner of his lips twitching as
he thought, "I must be crazy! Why would I think it's her when I hear a woman's
voice?"
With another step forward, another miserable female voice came, "Ah!"
"I really don't know... What do you want? Please don't, don't!"
"Please let me go! Please don't..."
Wyatt's eyes unconsciously widened when his head jotted up. He subconsciously turned to look at Seth and saw the puzzled expression on his face. Without the slightest hesitation, he took a few large strides forward before banging through the door. He pushed the door open and saw Waverly being tied tightly to a corner. She was half kneeling, bawling her eyes out. A few pieces of clothes were torn, revealing her delicate skin. A few men circled her, swearing at her.
"What are you doing?"
In an instant, his blood boiled. Wyatt lunged forward to punch and kick all those
standing in his way. "Who told you to hurt her?"
A bunch of good-for-nothings. Why did they kidnap Waverly? Why did they
frighten her?
He was so mad that his heart surged with murderous intent. Spinning around, Wyatt gave everyone another kick in the abdomen out of wrath before he
turned around to help Waverly kneeling on the ground up, all the while his handsome face dark with rage.
"Ah, Mr. Johnson..."
As he reached out, the leader of the team tried to stop him, but Seth pulled him
back and covered his lips. "Shut up!"
On the other side, a man shouted in anxiety, "Mr. Johnson, don't untie her! It's
her!"
They hadn't searched her, nor did they have the chance to interrogate her! If they let her go, she might reveal her true colors, and everything would be in vain.
The few others hurriedly replied with "hmm" or nods. Wyatt's hands paused, along
with his eyes turned icy.
The woman...was Waverly? Subconsciously, he threw a cold glance at Waverly, who remained tied up, to see everyone giving him a firm nod.
Right then, Waverly heard Wyatt's voice. Sobbing, her ears pricked up. "Wyatt, is that you? Wyatt? I know it's you!"
Wyatt turned around and couldn't help but untie her hands. He raised his hand to
slowly remove the black cloth covering her eyes.
"It's fine. It's just a misunderstanding!"
Piercing light hit her. Waverly squinted at the sudden bright light. When she saw
the scene and everyone in the room clearly, all her blood seemed to freeze. Upon
coming to her senses, Waverly was trembling with anger.
Sure enough, it was him!
B*stard!
What do you think?
