Betrothed To The Mafia Lord

Chapter 371

Chapter 371

James’ pov

“So, can you tell me about yourself?” I asked after shooting her a quick look. It was hard for me to keep

my eyes off her, but I was trying to not let myself be too obvious.

It’s usually extremely hard for me to keep my eyes off her on a normal day, and now that she was

dressed up than what I was used to seeing, was making my thoughts all jumbled up in my head.

I already expected the scoff before it spilled past her delectable looking lips.

“Why are you so curious about me?” She demanded, and for the hundredth time, I also asked myself

that question in my head, and unfortunately, I’ve been unable to get a response to that question since.

“I have no idea, I just am.” I responded honestly but she snort that left her mouth next proved that she

didn’t believe me.

“Well, stop being curious about me, I won’t tell you shit.”

“Are you from around here?” I continued.

She pursed her lips and refused to answer that. I didn’t know what to make of her response, so I

decided to drop it.

“You look so–” enchanting, your beauty is so out of this world, it takes my breath away every damn

time.

I didn’t say any of that though, instead I said “– beautiful.”

She let out a small hum after that and that was it.

I waited a few beats and on getting nothing else in response, I decided to focus more on driving us

safely to our destination.

The silence that settled over us in the car wasn’t awkward or uncomfortable, but it wasn’t pleasant

either.

I wanted to listen to her talk, I wanted her to actually engage in a conversation with me, without us

bickering, but we can’t always have what we want.

I hadn’t been expecting her to break the silence first.

“What do you do for a living, Mr James?”

The question had caught me so off guard, I had to instantly halt my train of thoughts in order to focus

on her question. I shot her a glance to see her staring straight ahead, the lights on the road lit up her

face and made her eyes gleam beautifully.

“I’m the CEO of the Ricci Coperation international Companies.” I responded after a fleeting moment,

the response rolling off my tongue smoothly.

That’s my reflexes answers for questions like this, because we’re not allowed to outrightly tell people

who and what we really are, except they were directly involved.

I watched as a few emotions crossed her face before her mouth finally fell open as she spoke.

“Oh, wow. That’s the same Ricci cooperations that have over fifty companies beneath it?” She asked

and I glanced at her once again, shocked that she had known that, while nodding my head in response.

“You’re absolutely right. I’m surprised you know that.”

“Oh, it’s always in the news, everyone knows that.” She responded and I let out a low hum.

She’s making sense quite alright.

“That’s hella impressive though. No wonder you have a whole lot of money.” She murmured in

response and I let out a small chuckle.

“You think I have a whole lot of money?” I drawled out with raised eyebrows.

The traffic lights suddenly turned red and so I stopped the car and turned my entire attention towards

her as she responded.

“I know you do. Everyone who sees you would know immediately. I mean, who wears a freaking suit of

over fifty thousands dollars?” She demanded and I rolled my eyes.

“That suit was a designer. It was a limited edition as well, and also, will you ever stop bringing it up

every time?”

“No, I won’t. Because I have to pay you back for the stupid suit.” She snapped back and I rolled my

eyes once again, reminding myself not to let her know that I had no plans of accepting a dime from her,

from the onset.

The traffic lights turned green and I turned back to the road, silently cursing the traffic over as I drove,

the restaurant which I had made a reservation in was still over five minutes far.

The silence in the car didn’t feel thick this time, and traffic thankfully didn’t fill up the road any longer, so

it wasn’t all that long before I was pulling up outside the restaurant.

I stepped out of the car and as expected, Blair had stepped out of the car before I could even attempt

to go to her side of the car and hold her door open like a gentleman.

I locked the car and handed the key over to a valet, and then I led the way into the restaurant. Blair had

always ensured to keep some distance between us whenever we arrived at restaurants.

I wanted to drape my hand over her waist and hold her to me, but knew she wouldn’t want that, so I

settled for trailing in behind her, while my eyes drank in the luscious curve of her ass straining through

the black dress she had on.

The dress was a few inches above her knews and hugged her body like a glove.

In the restaurant, Blair was staring around in awe, while I forced myself to look away from her ass. A

waiter has just showed me my reservation and I was about to direct Blair over when she suddenly

stiffened.

Her eyes were trained on the huge television atop the far end of the restaurant, a reporter was

announcing an old woman’s death. I was about to ask if she was alright when her eyes suddenly

widened, she had just glanced behind me.

Before I knew what was happening, she was burrowing into me and hiding her face in my shoulders.

Her body was trembling and I instantly wrapped my arms around her, while trying to find out what was

wrong.

“Don’t let him see me, please.” Her voice was raw and small as she pleaded into my shoulders, voice

shaking and hands tightening in my suit jacket.

“Who?” I asked in confusion. “What’s happening, Blair? Who shouldn’t see you?”

“He just came in behind you, d- don’t let him see me… p- please.”

I glanced behind me and noticed three men being addressed by a waitress, I recognized two of the All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

men as members of a different mafia, and the confusion in my head thickened.

Blair knew these people?

Not knowing what was actually happening but also not wanting Blair to be seen by these people

because it was obvious that she was scared shitless, I maneuvered us around and ignored some

curious gazes, leading us out of the restaurant through a different entrance.

I had a whole lot of questions, but it all died in my throat as soon as I saw the tears sliding down her

face when I pulled her out of my arms.

“Please take me home… please.”
