Chapter 10 Who Was Evelyn
Chapter 10 Who Was Evelyn
Five, five million!
Alexia looked up in shock. Why five million? Her brother only owed less than a million!
“Chaim, you… Oh, I’ve always said how much of a blessing it is for our Aily to marry you!”
Mrs. White’s smile grew wider. She’d known for a long while that a rich son-in-law would help them one day.
“Auntie, this really isn’t anything to get flustered about. Shouldn’t you ask why Aily was in the hospital?” he coldly reminded her in a heavy tone.
“This, this…” Mrs. White laughed embarrassedly, “I have asked, Aily just has an upset stomach. This is a common occurrence for her. As long as she eats on time and takes medicine, it will be fine.”
Alexia stood beside Chaim without words. Since she was little, her parents always preferred her younger brother and cared little for her. After so many years, she was used to it, and it didn’t bother her much anymore.
“Auntie, I hope you know frequent stomachache is not a good thing,” he said while checking his wristwatch, “There are other things I have to do. Auntie, I’ll leave first. My assistant will send the check here later. Let’s go.”
Before Alexia could react, Chaim grabbed her wrist in a strong but gentle way. He guided Alexia out of the house and toward the car without another word.
“Chaim, why did you give my mom so much money?”
Alexia had the courage to ask the question once they were outside away from the house.
‘Why?’ Was it because he cared about her, or was he used to measuring others with money?
“Nothing, it’s not important.”
Telling her to fasten the safety belt coldly, he started the car with a creased brow.
The reason he didn’t respond was because he didn’t know the answer himself. Facing a greedy and aloof woman like Mrs. White, he actually felt angry. As for the extra money… he treated it as compensation for Alexia.
“But…”
Alexia wanted to say more. But seeing his expression, the guilt that rushed to her throat was swallowed again. Allowing her mother to accept such a large amount of money, she didn’t know how to make it up to him.
After returning home, Chaim told Alexia to rest and went out again not too long after.
Alexia was so confused she couldn’t fall asleep and tossed and turned in bed for hours. Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

The next morning, Alexia woke up with huge dark circles under her eyes. She was up all night thinking about ways she could repay Chaim, but it seemed like it would take a lifetime.
“Ms. Alexia, I’ve prepared breakfast, are you awake?” Aunt Song called from outside the door.
“Yes, Aunt Song. I’ll be down soon.”
Alexia quickly freshened up before heading downstairs.
She found Chaim was enjoying breakfast at the table when she entered the dining room.
Alexia slowed down subconsciously when seeing her husband. Their relationship seemed to change from couple to creditor and debtor quite suddenly. Though, there was no love between them originally…
Chaim glanced up at Alexia but didn’t pay much attention to her. He got up and wiped his hands clean after breakfast, “I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Okay, I’ll be there soon!”
Not wanting to make him wait too long, Alexia hurriedly finished the breakfast and followed him out.
According to what they agreed before, Chaim let Alexia out at the same intersection.
Alexia hurried to the office and was about to punch in when she overheard her colleagues’ gossip.
“Look, it’s so different. The new president promoted her to secretary on the first day. Not everyone has this privilege.”
“Maybe it’s because she’s better in bed so she can hook up with the president.”
Lynn also heard their gossip and angrily wanted to argue with them.
Alexia stopped her in time, “Lynn, forget it. We can’t control their thoughts and trying will only make it worse.”
“These people can do nothing except gossip!” Lynn stared at them.
“Let’s go, it’s time to work.”
After working in the company for so long, Alexia was naturally aware of the in-house conflicts.
Once in her office, Alexia rearranged the documents Chaim demanded and planned to send them to him. She would work hard to pay off the money he loaned her mother as soon as possible!
“Chaim, Evelyn’s surgery has been scheduled. You arranged it, right? You also asked Wood to send money to the woman. Is that compensation?”
Walking toward Chaim’s office, Alexia was about to knock on the door when the conversation inside caught her attention.
That voice… Alexia remembered hearing it when she married Chaim. But what were they talking about? What was that about sending money and compensation? And… who was Evelyn?
Alexia got closer to the door, wanting to hear clearly. But, as soon as she went to lean against it, someone pulled the door open, causing Alexia to lose her balance. She fell forward only to be caught by a pair of strong hands.
“Why are you here, sister-in-law? Were you eavesdropping on us?”
