Chapter 41
May Walter POV
“Wife, I made breakfast. You should come to the dining let’s eat together,” Miles’s voice sounded from outside a few minutes after I stepped out of the bathroom.
“Alright. I’ll be there in a couple of minutes,”
“I’ll be waiting,” I heard his receding footsteps afterwards, and I presumed he must’ve gone back.
It’s been five days since we did the DNA test thing, and we were supposed to get the result today.
For the umpteenth time, I picked up my phone and checked to see if my acclaimed Dad had sent me a text, but he didn’t. I was grateful he didn’t text me all this while just as I had demanded, but I was nervous since the result will be out today.
“Don’t be nervous, May. You’ll get over this,” I assured myself and took a deep long breath before I walked out of my room and headed to the dining room to join Miles.
My mouth salivated as the aroma of food welcomed me downstairs.
“You’re here… Come have a seat,” Miles didn’t cease to be the sweet husband that always blew my mind as he stood up and pulled out the chair for me to sit on.
“Thank you,” I muttered as I gently sat on it, and he smiled at me.
“Did you sleep well? How are you feeling now?” He looked at me briefly while dishing out the food, and I nodded.
“I’m perfectly fine now,”
“That’s a relief. I’m glad you are better now…” He paused as he served me.
“Enjoy your meal,” He smiled at me again, then went ahead to serve his own portion after which we began eating.
Silence crept into the atmosphere, and the only sound heard were the ones coming from the cutleries we were using to eat.
“I’ve not seen Mr. Miguel since one week. Is he so busy at work?” I looked at him briefly and continued eating.
“Hmm… He barely comes home, and whenever he does, you were always asleep. He leaves for work early before anyone wakes up too. Hoping he’d have time to rest soon,”
“Oh,” I mouthed and slowly nodded.
“You haven’t talked about Ms. Lily coming over lately. You must’ve been bored out staying at home all alone,” He looked at me briefly.
“Oh… That? Lily has been busy at work. And about being bored, I’m still managing,” I shrugged. Well, I was sure Lilly was not so busy not to have time to check on me, but what was I expecting when her sweetheart is busy? Of course, she would want to be at the hospital too even though she’s not doing anything over there.
“We’ve not talked about your secretary and personal assistant,” I blurted out before I could hold myself back. I bit my lip in regret. Why did I say that?
“Oh… That… Well, my secretary’s name is Sammy. He is quite good at what he does, and my personal assistant… His name is Rob. He was my friend before he traveled abroad for personal business. You’ll meet him in person soon,” I was the happiest woman on earth at that moment. The thought of him taking his time to explain everything to me hits differently and gave me this feeling that he thought of me as his wife. I mean, that’s how a responsible man would talk to his wife.
‘Don’t keep your hopes high, May. You are just binded by a contract. You are not married for real’ Reminding myself about that yet again broke my heart, but I tried to hide it.
“May? Are you ok?” He asked out of the blue moon, and when I raised my gaze, I found him staring straight at me.
“Me? Of course, I am,” I laughed dryly, and he nodded.
“You are going to spend all day at home today. Do you want to go out?”
“No, I’m fine,” I forced a smile, and he nodded.
“Alright. You can call me later if you need anything,”
“Hmm. Thank you,”
We were finally done having breakfast, so he went ahead to clear the table after he insisted that I get some rest and allow him do it.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
I was about to leave for the living room when my phone beeped and I checked to see a text from Mr. Williams. I hurriedly clicked on it, anxious to know what was inside.
‘The result came out. It’s a hundred percent positive. Are you convinced now that you are my daughter?’ A picture of the DNA test result was attached to the text. I felt empty and brokenhearted, wishing Mom was here at this moment of my life. This was the time I wished more than anything else that she was here with me.
‘What do you want from me?’
‘Let’s meet and talk in my villa. Can I send my driver to come pick you up? If you are not comfortable with it, I will send you the address’ His text popped on the screen of my phone.
‘Send the address. I will come over by myself’ A few minutes after I sent the last message, another text from him came in. It was the address this time.
“Is everything alright? You look…” My heart skipped a beat when I raised my gaze and found Miles standing in front of me.
“Oh… Me? Ye… yes, I’m fine,” I nodded nervously as I quickly kept my phone away and swallowed the lump in my throat.
“Uhm… Are you done? Are you ready for work now?” I rose to my feet, my fingers holding on firmly to my phone. I was acting suspicious, and though I knew it, I couldn’t stop myself because I was so fucking nervous.
“Hmm… Are you sure you are fine?” He raised his eyebrows as he counted his steps toward me and stopped in front of me.
“Are you sick? Do you want to go to the hospital?” He placed his hand on my forehead.
“Not really. I’m fine…”
“You are sweating. Are you ok?” I forgot to breath for a few seconds as he wrapped his hand around my waist and pulled me close to himself, leaving our bodies pressing hard against each other.
“Hmm,” I managed to nod my head, and he stared at me suspiciously for a few seconds before he smiled.
“Alright. I will be back shortly so we can attend an auction together. It’s going to be fun, trust me,”
“Hmm,” I just nodded. My heart was literally racing in my chest and I couldn’t utter a word since we were still standing so close.
“It’s 2pm, but I’ll be back before then. Let’s have dinner together outside after the auction,” He leaned forward and kissed my forehead before he pulled away.
“Hmm,” Again, I nodded.
“See you around,” And with that, he walked away, while I stood there staring at nothing as my heart palpitated.
After he left, I hurriedly got dressed and left for the address which Mr. Williams had sent to me earlier.
“We are here, ma’am,” The cabby’s voice got my attention after he pulled over, and I looked outside the window to confirm that we were really in the front of the villa…
