Rekindling Emotions
Chapter 81 Rekindling Emotions
NINA’S HOME, NEW YORK. “It smells great in here,” Xander commented as he entered the house. “Hey, mama.” He cooed at Winter, lifting her from her cot and petting her to sleep. Nina stared at him affectionately. She has been thinking of her discussion with Venus since noon. Thoughts of Xander have her mind preoccupied. “You know your mum, she is an amazing cook. She also made sure to dress Winter up for bed. Your dad came to pick her up and brought me a box of doughnuts.” He laughed. “Why would he do that? Are you even allowed to eat something like that?” “He said he checked online, and it says new mums can have a few treats. And he was right; I polished half of the box in one go.” She boasted. “Yeah, right.” He replied, laughing softly to avoid waking Winter. “As for mum, she is only doing her duty as a grandmother should.” Nina thinned her lips, still smiling. “Should I serve you dinner now, or you will freshen up first?” Xander placed Winter cautiously into the cot. “Have you eaten?” “No, I decided to wait up for you.” She said. “Alright, let me wash up real quick. I will join you soon.” As promised, Xander returned to the living room refreshed. Nina had arranged a mini picnic in the middle of the room so she wouldn’t be too far from Winter when she cried. “You don’t mind, right?” Nina asked. “Not at all.” He grinned, sitting down. If only she knew just how much he enjoyed the intimacy. Sleeping next to her every night and cuddling with her makes the rest of his day blissful. “Taste nice, then,” Nina mumbled after they settled to eat. “Not bad. You give Mum too much credit.” He snickered, still chewing. She slapped his thigh playfully. “Stop being so silly. How was work today and Jace? He only calls to check on Winter. I am surprised he still hasn’t come by.” Xander sniffed at the reminder of his brother; they hadn’t spoken since their disagreement, only because Jace refused to talk to him. “Work is fine. Jace is, too. He has been busy with these deals on hand.” “I told your mother the truth about us today. Her calm reaction was surprising. She is a good person.” He took a sip of water and held her gaze in guilt. “I am sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, but she already figured it out. I was shocked when she told me too. Did you tell her everything? Because she refused to hear the whole story from me.” Nina hummed in realization. “I see why she didn’t hear it from you. It was a test to see if I would enjoy hiding the truth and playing oblivious. Thank goodness I told her I would have hated myself if she despised me for being a cheat.” “Do you care about her approval that much?” “Of course, she is your mother, Xander.” He grinned sheepishly. “You are sounding like an intending daughter-in-law.” Her face flushed. “Do you always have to do this?” “Do what?” “You know what I am talking about. She even suggested we move to your house.” Xander’s heart skipped a beat. His mother would be the death of him. “My goodness, she can be a lot. There is no need to be bothered by it. Just ignore her.” Nina sighed heavily as she twirled her fork on the plate. “You see, Xander, these past months and days have been my happiest and saddest moments. But through it all, you have stuck to my side. I want you, and at the same time, I want to be certain that I am not using you. It’s enough that I got my job, the house, and getting back at Asher because of you. I want to love you genuinely.” “Do you not love me now?” “I do, but I want to start on a clean slate. No lies on hormones or whatever.” She snorted. Xander laughed heartily. “So you are admitting you lied against your hormones.” “Just let it slide this one time.” “Of course, as you wish.” “Regarding work, too, I would like to get started with the buyout of M&M. Since they agreed with my proposal, I have to follow it up. Have you seen the shareholder’s record?” “Yes, and surprisingly, you happen to have about five percent. That is so impressive.” “I was keen on investing in my future at the time. I am glad I did now. In the meantime, I have to start working from home.” “As you wish. If you need more hands from work, just let me know.” “Thank you so much, Xander.” “Anytime, baby.” He kept mute for a second. “So, about us starting afresh. What do you have in mind? Because it is obvious you have been thinking about it.” Nina cleared her throat awkwardly; the time of reckoning was finally here. “Don’t take any offense, Xander. I want to do this the right way.” “Okay.” “Since I have put you to bed now, Carla can return here. I am considering shifting my room to the nursery to give her space. You can go back to your house. I appreciate the help, Xander, with you back at yours. Then, we can go on random dates without invading each other’s space. Or maybe not dates, just friendly hangouts…..” “Nah, I am already hinged on the date idea. That is cool, as long as I see you and be free without holding back. Then I am down for it.” “Really? So you don’t mind that I am asking you out of a house that is practically yours since the company gave it to me?” Xander laughed. “What do you take me to be, then? I knew what I signed up for. So I do not mind one bit. Can I at least come to see my girl without calling you?” “Like you said, she is your girl. I really can’t stop you.” She replied with a giggle. They stared at each other briefly before dumping their food and making out passionately. Xander almost regretted his indulgence as Nina seemed to be making her hand down the location of his dick. He held her hand gently. “Aren’t you supposed to stay away in the meantime?” “There is nothing wrong in feeling it.” She let out in a coarse tone, resuming the kiss. Xander pinned her subtly to the floor and cupped her face in his palm, kissing her slowly. Nina moaned into his mouth while she roamed his body desperately. Despite the doctor’s warning, she seems to be needy. But it wouldn’t be possible even if she was down for it. When Xander thought of a way to escape, Winter let out a shrilled cry. Nina jumped hurriedly to get to the child. He mumbled an internal appreciation to Winter. He owes her one. And that should be it for tonight. Everyone needs to rest.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
