Chapter 1047
Teddy's cheeks turned bright red.
But all he could focus on was Maddie-her odd mood, the mark on her neck, and the sinking feeling that something was wrong.
"What's going on? And how did you get that bruise?" he asked quietly.
Amelia suddenly cut in, her voice soft but serious. "Teddy, if I were dying... would you still want to marry me?"
The question blindsided him. “What are you talking about? Why would you say that?"
His worry was impossible to hide. "Seriously, Amelia, what happened?"
She just repeated herself, eyes steady. "I'm just asking, Teddy. What if? Would you?"
He didn't even hesitate. "Of course I would."
Maddie smiled, relief flickering across her face. "Then let's do it. Let's get married. I want to be with you."
Teddy froze, stunned and speechless, trying to process what had just happened.
Meanwhile, at two in the morning, Connor had finally managed to fall asleep- only to be jolted awake by his phone buzzing on the nightstand.
It was Teddy calling. And Teddy never called without a reason, especially not in the middle of the night. He was Connor's right hand for a reason-always steady, always dependable, the kind of person who never let things slip through the cracks.
So if Teddy was calling now, something major was up.
Connor sat up, instantly on alert. His voice was sharp and a little tense. "What's wrong?"
On the other end, Teddy sounded giddy, almost like a kid. "Guess what? Amelia said yes-she's going to marry me!"
Connor went silent for a beat, fingers bunching the bedsheet. "Teddy... you realize it's two in the morning, right?"
"I know," Teddy replied, not sounding the least bit apologetic.
"And you couldn't wait until tomorrow to tell me? Most people are asleep right now, you know."
Teddy just laughed. "Sorry, man, I've got more calls to make!" And before Connor could say another word, Teddy hung up.
Connor ran a fired hand over his face, a mix of disbelief and
amusement in his eyes. He'd acted annoyed, sure, but deep down he was genuinely happy for Teddy Years of waiting, years of loving quietly-finally, it was all paying off.
Still, there was a nagging worry in his chest.
Maddie and Grant-there was something complicated and unspoken there. Back when Chloe disappeared, Maddie had been right there. She knew more than she let on, Connor was sure of it. But for two years, no matter how he asked, Maddie stuck to her story. Grant had just taken Chloe for a test flight.
Connor knew things had changed between them since those early days building Pure White together. The trust was gone. He was pretty sure Maddie was on Grant's side now.
It was almost too much of a coincidence-Chloe came home, Grant showed up
right after, and within hours, Maddie accepted Teddy's proposal.
Something about it didn't sit right.
Connor's brow tightened as he tried to make sense of it all.
He didn't expect what happened next: the very next day, Maddie showed up at hisnoveldrama
office, and she didn't come empty-handed.
It was just after noon. That day, Connor had decided to bring Chloe to the office with him. As they walked through the halls together people could barely believe what they were seeing. The CEO's wife, missing for two years, just strolled in like she'd never left.
Still, everyone greeted her politely and with respect.
Someone snapped a photo and posted it online, and within minutes, Chloe was trending at the very top of the hot search.
Chloe had agreed to come, hoping that being back in her old environment might jog her memory. But nothing came back—not a single flash.
Later that afternoon, Connor took her to the hospital for a checkup. She went through a full examination, including a brain MRI.
The results were surprising. The vascular tumor was still there, but in the past two years, it hadn't gotten worse. In fact, it was actually a little smaller than before.
What do you think?
