Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 1055

Connor knew exactly what Chloe was doing-she was putting her life on the line to threaten Grant.

She was gambling everything.

But Chloe had no idea she could actually hold her breath underwater for ten whole minutes. Most people would've drowned after just four or five.

Connor's hands clenched the metal bars so hard his knuckles went pale. He kept shaking his head at Chloe, begging her with his eyes to come up for air.

But Chloe just gripped his hand even tighter, refusing to let go.

Connor had never felt this kind of fear-not even when his own life was on the line. Because deep down, he believed Grant wouldn't really let Chloe die. But what if something went wrong? What if Chloe didn't make it? What if Grant wasn't even watching?

Desperation filled Connor's eyes. But Chloe's gaze burned with a fierce

determination he'd never seen before.

The seconds dragged by, painfully slow.

Connor could see Chloe starting to falter. Her legs were kicking uncontrollably now, but she still wouldn't come up.

He tried to pry her fingers off the bars, but somehow, Chloe's grip only tightened— like her hands were welded in place. Her face twisted in pain, but she kept fighting, refusing to surface.

Connor felt like he was suffocating, a heavy weight crushing his chest, getting heavier by the second.

Chloe was on the brink of passing out when suddenly, Connor noticed the cage door was open.

There was no time to think. He pushed out of the cage and swam to Chloe, just as her body started to sink.

He got to her in time, hauling her up to the surface.

Only then did he realize the room had changed. In the middle of the pool, a T- shaped platform had appeared-just big enough for both of them to climb onto.

Chloe was limp in his arms, barely breathing.

Connor didn't hesitate. He started CPR, panic in his voice. "Chloe, wake up. Please, wake up!"

Somewhere inside, Chloe was still fighting. Suddenly, she coughed hard, water spilling from her lips, and started gasping for air.

Connor finally stopped, still kneeling beside her, completely wrecked.

Chloe's hand trembled as she reached up, her fingers gently brushing Connor's cheek. "Don't worry. I'm okay."

Connor pulled her to him, voice raw. "I'm sorry, Chloe. I'm so, so sorry."

He couldn't find the words. Guilt tore at him. She'd been through enough, and now he'd dragged her into this nightmare.

Chloe hugged him back, holding on just as tightly.

But this time, it was different. She wasn't holding on to some memory or a husband who never existed. She was holding the man she loved-her partner, the one she'd go through helt for.

Tears rolled down her face.

Everything came flooding back. She remembered it all.

Then, Grant's voice drifted down from above, cold and mocking.

"Heaven's gates were wide open, but you chose to walk into hell, Connor. You've

got some nerve coming into my house."

Connor gently let Chloe go, squaring

Grant's laugh echoed in the chamber. "You're not getting out of here alive, so I might as well tell you. Amelia was my pawn once, but she betrayed me for that idiot Teddy.
