Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 1068

Jeffery was a bundle of nerves, his emotion spilling over.

"All these years, even though I knew where he was, I never went to see him. I always thought he took the fall for me, carried the blame his whole life. Even after Crimson Moon was destroyed, he chose to stay on the run. He knew I'd made it— I have power, I have money-yet he never came to me for help. I thought it was because the Grevenberg family was a shadow we couldn't bear to face."

Then, out of nowhere, Jeffery let out a sharp, bitter laugh. "But I was wrong! Completely wrong!"

His laughter was laced with irony at first, but it soon faded into grief and regret.

It felt as if a heavy weight had finally lifted from his chest-he was both relieved and a little hollow inside. Relieved, because neither of them had actually committed some terrible, unforgivable crime. But also lost, because all this time, each of them had believed the other was the guilty one.

Truth was, Jeffery had known for a long time that there was a survivor from the Grevenberg family. And he'd set out for revenge.

His eyes drifted to Connor, almost unconsciously. There was something complicated in his gaze, as if he was seeing someone else in Connor's place.

That kid he had to be the last of the Grevenbergs.

That's why, back then, Jeffery had been so dead set against Connor and Claire being together.

But in the end, his daughter still paid the price for that doomed love.

After Claire died, Jeffery burned the only thing Shadow had ever given him—a set of Go pieces. He knew, deep down, it was karma. His daughter's life was payment for his own past. And it was Nemo who'd carried that burden for him.

He wasn't cold-hearted. If anything, after everything he'd survived, he saw Shadow as family the only real family he had. And Shadow felt the same.noveldrama

Yet somehow, it all led to his own daughter's death. And now their children were still paying the price.

But this secret could never come to light.

Kash broke the silence. "If you didn't have anything to do with the Grevenberg massacre, and Chloe's mentor wasn't involved either, then how did an entire family get wiped out in a single night?"

Jeffery shook his head. "A fifty-year-old secret is nothing more than dust buried by

the tides of time. Digging it up now? Nearly impossible."

Kash looked at Chloe. "If only we could find your mentor. Maybe he knows more. He took Jeffery's place on that mission all those years ago. But what happened after that? Why did he come to believe Jeffery was the one who killed the Grevenbergs? Something must have happened."

Chloe lowered her eyes, her face shadowed with sorrow.

She hadn't seen her mentor in years. The last time was in Grant's underground prison. After that, she forgot everything.

Chloe let out a soft sigh. "The worst part is, I have no idea where he is now."

Suddenly, Jeffery spoke up. "He's here."

His words caught everyone off guard.

"Jeffery, what do you mean? Who's here?"

Jeffery's voice was calm at last.

"Chloe, your mentor is right here.

He's been living in the Lakeside

House this whole time. Over the past year, there've been all sorts of strange things happening at the old manor-food vanishing from the kitchen, but nothing ever showed up on the security cameras. That's when I realized it was him. We never met face to face. I just had people help him settle in at Lakeside House, and he's been there ever since. Even now, he's still there."
