Chapter 1081
Grant had known for as long as he could remember that Connor was his brother. They were even born the same year. But when it came to his own mother, Grant knew nothing-never met her, never even saw a photo. He also knew Taylor wasn't his full sibling either; different mothers, same father.
Growing up, Connor's name was everywhere. People talked about how great he was, all his achievements, everything he'd accomplished. And the truth was, all these years, their dad had been quietly keeping tabs on that golden child. Sometimes, when his father mentioned Connor, Grant could hear it-that subtle note of pride in his voice.
That was why, from the start, whenever Grant had to go up against Connor, he couldn't help but feel hostile. His feelings toward his brother were a tangled mess. They'd barely even spoken over the years, but Grant had always known- somewhere out there, he had a half-brother. Part of him liked the idea of not being alone in the world, someone else whose fate was tied to his. But another part of him hated it, resenting the way Connor's existence seemed to cast a shadow he could never quite step out of.
And the biggest regret of his life? Was handing Chloe over to Connor himself.
"Grant, bring some tea for our guests," Killian said, snapping him out of his thoughts.
Grant dutifully poured tea for everyone around the table.
Jeffery was the first to speak. "Paul, you grew up right under my nose. You were just ten when your mentor brought you to the Sartori family, and you and Anya were childhood sweethearts. All because of one misunderstanding, we ended up here Anya is dead, and you've spent your life hating the wrong person. I came today to tell you: I didn't kill the Grevenberg family. There were thirty-eight of them. Sure, I got the assignment from the organization, but by the time I got there, the place was already on fire."noveldrama
He let out a heavy sigh. "All these years, I thought Shadow had done it in my place, that he'd carried the guilt for me. But it wasn't him, either. We were both too late. Paul, you've been blaming the wrong man all this time."
Hank cut in, his voice skeptical. "So if it wasn't you, and it wasn't Shadow, then how did they die?"
Paul's eyes narrowed. "And now you're telling me all this just to clear your own name?"
Jeffery shook his head. "Look, we're not young men anymore. What's the point in lying now? You betrayed the Sartori family, and because of that, my daughter died. By all rights, there's nothing left between us but old grudges. I'm not here to make excuses. I just want the truth out there. As for the rest-the debts we owe, the pain we've caused-those things will get sorted out in time. But this? I'm not taking the blame for something I didn't do. Thirty-eight people died, including women and children. I've always gone after the worst kinds of people, but I've never killed innocents. Never the helpless."
Killian just sat there, looking unbothered.
"You were both at the scene," he said, almost mocking. "Both of you are professionals. If it wasn't you, and it wasn't him, then who wiped
out the entire Grevenberg fly?"
The question hung in the air, heavy and unanswerable. Silence settled over the room.
How did all thirty-eight members of the Grevenberg family really die? No one in that room could say.
Then Killian spoke again, his voice cold and final. "Honestly, it doesn't matter anymore. Whether you did it or not, all of you are headed to hell tonight If you've got questions, you can ask the devil yourself when you get there." sŵnovel
