Chapter 857
Marian grabbed onto Connor's sleeve, desperation in her voice. "You can't go alone. You just can't."
For more than twenty years, Claire had tried multiple times to harm Connor, and each time, Marian had stepped in to protect him. She believed her daughter was sick, plagued by a dark madness that drove her to such unimaginable deeds. Now, Claire was left with nothing, having been confined to a mental institution by Connor himself. She was bound to seek revenge. If Connor ended up in her grasp, it would be a perilous situation.
"Let me go with you," Marian implored, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I've lived a full life. It's my burden to bear for bringing her into this world. If a life must be paid, let it be mine."
People gathered around to console her, and Pax stepped forward. "Uncle, I'll go with you. She wouldn't harm her own son."
Connor's lips twisted into a wry smile. Even in the middle of all this tension, he managed a small laugh. "I can't take that chance. I'll go alone. Nobody follows. Once Chloe's back, you can figure out how to get me out of this."
In the end, Connor drove off by himself, everyone watching as his figure vanished into the night. They all understood he was doing it to keep Chloe safe, obeying Claire's demands to avoid any risk to her.
Nobody knew where Connor had gone. Isaac was still glued to his computer, relentlessly trying to crack the interference codes. If he succeeded, he might finally track down Claire's hideout.
Meanwhile, Connor made his way to the harbor, driving his car straight onto a yacht. He couldn't tell how long they traveled before a
helicopter landed on the yacht..
Following Claire's instructions net
Connor boarded the helicopter. As soon as he was aboard, they
injected him with a sedative, and he slipped into unconsciousness.
Connor didn't know how long he was out. When he came to, he found himself in a shabby cabin, hands and feet bound, lying on a rickety wooden bed. He opened his eyes, staying still, and took in his surroundings. The cabin was small and rundown, cobwebs clinging to every corner. The air was damp, heavy with the stench of mold. A hole in the roof offered a glimpse of the outside, but all he could see were towering trees, their thick canopy blocking out most of the sunlight.
The cabin door stood open, but the light that seeped in was meager, leaving the room in a twilight gloom. Connor spotted two burly men at the doorway, each holding an AK-47, wearing nothing but camo vests despite the biting cold, their muscular, dark skin exposed.noveldrama
Connor instantly recognized them as international mercenaries. He quickly assessed his situation-somewhere deep in a remote forest, far from any trace of civilization and without any signal, which explained why he'd been impossible to find. Chloe was likely nearby.
Connor began working on the ropes around his wrists, using a special technique to free himself quickly. With his hands freed, he moved on to the ropes around his feet. But just as he was nearly free, one of the mercenaries noticed and stormed in, delivering a brutal beating. The man then turned and spoke a few harsh words in a language Connor couldn't decipher.
