Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 863

Chloe's heart sank like a stone when she heard Connor's words. How desperate must he be to say something like that?

"Connor," she began, her voice firm but tender, "you can't ever give up on yourself. You've got to keep going for me, and for our child. Promise me?"

In that moment, Connor wasn't even sure himself. "Chloe, I don't want to sugarcoat it. We're in a tight spot. You know as well as I do what my sister Claire is capable of, but we need to hold onto one thing: you have to survive. No matter what happens, you just have to keep going."

Connor knew full well that Claire was ultimately coming for him. Chloe still had a shot at getting through this, but he feared she might lose hope even if a chance came her way. He needed to be honest, to strengthen her resolve.

But Chloe had already seen through his façade. "If you die, what's the point for me? We're in this together. I'm not giving up, and neither should you."

Connor's eyes welled up, a deep red. Of course, he wanted to live. He'd never felt such a pull towards life before. "Connor, remember when you were ten, standing by the river? I was the one who pulled you back from the edge. Your life is mine now, and you live for me. So, I'm telling you, without my say-so, you're not allowed to give up. No matter the pain, no matter the loss, even at the very last moment, don't willingly let go of your life."

Chloe's voice was firm, almost commanding, but there was a thread of fear and anxiety woven through it. Her heart was a storm of uncertainties. She could foresee the trials she and Connor would face. But the only thing they could hold onto now was that no matter how bleak things got, they just couldn't

give up. Never.

"Connor, as long as we're alive, there's hope. Promise me you won't give up, no matter what."

She knew the turmoil churning

inside him, the betrayal and torment from those who should have loved him. That kind of pain was like a

Connor was ten, Claire had made him hate this world. For years, he'd held on by sheer willpower alone. Chloe feared that his wilf might just shatter one day.

Listening to Chloe, the despair inside Connor stirred, finding a glimmer of warmth. He'd spent twenty-eight years navigating life like walking on eggshells, always in some kind of. battle, be it defensive or offensive

storm, dark clouds looming. Inside, there was still a part of him-a child-caught in that storm. Outwardly, he seemed strong, like a golden boy who could do anything. But only he knew how powerless, scared, and hopeless he felt when Claire was involved.

Chloe was his beacon, cutting through the storm. He wasn't going to give up easily. She was right; they both had to make it out alive.

They sat together on the ground, their backs against the worn-out wall. Each reached a finger through a small hole in the wall, just barely able to touch the other's fingertip. Connor's fingers were cold, while Chloe's were warm. A soft warmth flowed between them, like a small flicker of light in a sea of darkness.
