Chapter 47.
Xavier sat in his office busy with work, he had been working all day without a break.
He dropped the pen in his arm and rested his head on the table, he wasn’t hungry though… but damn weak.
Everything Vanessa gave him advice came hitting in his head, it seemed like she was beside him repeating those words again.
Hmmm! He gasped and lifted his head again, the hell that he’s baffled and haunted is what he couldn’t get a reason behind it.
Is he worried because of Lilian’s visit or because of what Vanessa said to him? He shook his head. “Maybe I’m running mad now. I just don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
He pushed the register that he was going through aside and decided to take a nap. That might bring back his senses again.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
Just as he bent his head, the doorbell rang making him lift his face again staring at the door. “Who’s that? Just come in.” He ordered.
The door was wrapped open and Lilian walked in taking short steps towards him. He didn’t get his eyes off her either.
“Good afternoon Xavier.” She greeted drawing the seat backwards to settle down. She had expected him to reply, but he didn’t. “Why are you staring at me this way? You don’t know me any longer huh?”
He sighed and pulled his jaw a bit up with his right palm. “If I knew that you’re the one knocking, I wouldn’t let you in.”
“Why? Is it a crime to visit you in your office, or I’m not good enough to do that?” She complained not even relaxed on the chair.
Xavier sniffed. “I didn’t invite you over, and you shouldn’t come without letting me know. Just take that as a correction.” He remarked.
She felt hurt within her. “That order goes to me, Lilian… your fiance because I’m not the babysitter huh?”
“I beg of you please. This is my office and in public too. Kindly know the sort of words you vomit here.” He shunned her.
She shut her mouth for a while, but couldn’t bear it again. “You’re scared so that your workers won’t be aware that you’re a cheater huh? That’s it… I know.”
Xavier twisted his face. “You know I should be saying that.. not you making the statement.” He bent down and picked up his pen which fell on the ground.
She kept glaring at him. She couldn’t believe that Xavier had changed this much towards her already… but she wouldn’t mind, so long as he’s gonna be hers at last.
The reason she decided to visit him when at work is to gain that forgiveness from him. At least for the sake of his workers not knowing what’s going on… he will do it.
She doesn’t care if the forgiveness comes from his inner heart, all she wants is to be given access to his home as before.
All she wants is to keep visiting his home, until time will tell if they’re getting married or not. She can’t just be the loser entirely.
“Now tell me the reason for your coming, or you just came to waste my time.” He referred to her while going through the office system. “You can see I have a lot of work to do now, so it would be better If you speak up before I get too busy again.” He wasn’t glancing at her though.
Lilian affixed her gaze at him, but wasn’t staring at him. She was so deep in thought that she didn’t grab a dime from what Xavier uttered.
For some seconds, Lilian hadn’t uttered a word… he lifted his face to glance at her.
“What’s wrong with you Lilian? You aren’t saying a word, or aren’t you here with me all this while?” He drew her out of her thoughts.
She shrugged her shoulders and licked her lips. “I’m sorry, I was deep in thought.”
He adjusted staring at her completely this time. “You were thinking about who was in my presence? The dude you’ve been cheating with right?”
She shook her head. “Come on Xavier, you’re going too far. I just want to think of how to make it up with you.”
“That’s a lie from the pit of hell.” He uttered vividly.
Lilian smiled inwardly, she counted him to be sure she was lying. “That’s by the way. Did you ask me any questions? Can you please repeat it?”
Xavier heaved a big sigh. “Nothing other than you telling me the reason you are here. That’s all.”
She pouted her lips. “Ummm! I’m here so we can make everything up again, I meant like… having peace again… coming together.”
“Like seriously? You want peace. You wanna make it up with me again, so you’ll start molesting an innocent woman that I employed huh?” He stated without sparing him a glance.
She licked her lips. Heaven knows she won’t take it easy with Vanessa, but for now… she needs to pretend that she has changed.
“That’s not it Xavier, I have nothing in mind for her. Okay you know what… I’m so sorry for the past, it’s just because of jealousy… I didn’t want to lose you to her or any other woman.” She uttered.
Xavier couldn’t help it but broke out in laughter. This lady is really pissing him off.
“All because you were jealous, you did all that huh? You know, it sounds stupid…” he nodded. “Yes, because If at all I want to leave you… trust me not to tell you Lilian. But just these few days, you’ve already started cheating on me and you think that it sounds sweet huh?” His voice was sounding hoarse this time.
Lilian shook her head, she doesn’t want anyone to know what’s going on in his office. All she wished for was for his forgiveness so easily.
“Xavier, I’m so sorry… just find a place in your heart and forgive me and I promise that such a thing won’t take place anymore. Just give me this second chance and you won’t regret it.” She pleaded.
He glanced at her and gasped. “You’ll have a place in my heart if I truly see the changes in you. But for now, you don’t have a place to relax yet.”
Lilian felt a bit relieved on hearing that, she believed within her that Xavier wouldn’t waste time to love her again.
“I’m welcomed into your life again right?” She inquired.
He smiled, this lady is kind of silly to him. “Yeah! You are, but mind you if the steps you take this time or you’ll lose it forever this time.”
She was so glad that she embraced him, placing a kiss on his cheek.
*********
Two days later.
After the discussion Lilian had with Xavier, she hasn’t stepped her feet in his home.
Although Xavier wasn’t worried… he had totally changed for her, unlike before he always wants her beside him all the time.
Lilian made up her mind to come spend the night with him, so she decided to come in the morning to meet Xavier, but before she arrived… Xavier had already left to work.
She had to relax and watch as the kids were running around Vanessa. That was weird to her. She’s so sure that the kids hate Vanessa except Chloe.
The presence of Vanessa bittered her heart, she felt like pushing her out but couldn’t do that. She hates it now that the children all love her… that means, no one is siding her. Not even Xavier.
She kept mute while the worries kept pondering. She decided to question the children when they’re back from school.
Vanessa left together with the kids and she was the only one at home.
She prepared a meal for herself and decided to stay in the sitting room until the kids return back from school.
At noon, they weren’t back and it haunted her. But when she dozed off in the evening, the kids arrived.
She got awake after they were done with their lunch and was busy with the television… since they were done with their school examination.
“Why should you all be acting like you’re senseless? You saw in a deep sleep, yet you went ahead switching on the television while it was off.” She yelled at them.
They didn’t say a word to her, their eyes affixed on the television instead.
“I’m talking to you all. Don’t tell me you’re deaf.” She screeched again.
Tracy hissed. “But this is a sitting room, not for sleeping but for taking a rest. You can go upstairs and enjoy your sleep please.”
She raised her hand to hit her but brought it down again. She wouldn’t start it now.
“Why did you come back? I don’t love you to be around here.” Chloe referred to her.
She threw a devilish glare at her that sent shivers down her spine. “You must be insane.”
“Now tell me, what pushed you two to love Vanessa? I’m very sure you have hated her.” She uttered again.
Ben sniffed. “You weren’t sure because we never hated her. Just let us be please.”
She drew his ear and squeezed them so that he screamed in pain.
The door was wrapped open and Vanessa came in. They all ran to her.
“What did you do to him?” She asked Lilian, staring at Ben.
He broke out in tears. “She squeezed my ears.”
“Lilian you have to squeeze my own ear now, or I’ll squeeze yours.” Vanessa remarked taking long steps to her.
