Defying the Prophecy
The tremor under Celia's feet shot waves of discomfort through the air, the earth vibrating with low growl, as if a part of the forest itself was coming to life. Shadows around the clearing writhed and boiled, coalescing into a shape that towered over the remnants of the battlefield.
"What is that?" Marcus's voice cut through the tension, sharp and panicked.
Celia's mark blazed with intense heat, the blessing's energy flaring like a warning. The figure was enormous, taking shape from out of the darkness, its form alive and shifting, writhing like some living thing. Two red eyes glowed, piercing through the darkness as they fixed upon Celia, their gaze shining with a hunting light.
Kaelen stepped forward, his golden eyes wide with fear. "It's the Shadowbeast," he said, his voice trembling. "A manifestation of the blessing's power... corrupted and unleashed."
Celia's chest tightened, her breath coming in short gasps as the weight of his words settled over her. The blessing pulsed beneath her skin, its energy a chaotic storm that threatened to overwhelm her.
"We can't fight that," Marcus said, his voice laced with disbelief. "Not with what we have."
"We don't have a choice," Celia said firmly, her voice steady despite the fear curling in her chest. "If we don't stop it here, it will destroy everything."
The pack moved into formation, their weapons raised as the Shadowbeast loomed closer. Its growl deepened, the sound reverberating through the clearing like a physical force. Celia tightened her grip on her blade, the blessing's energy surging as she prepared to face the creature.
Aziel stepped to her side, his blue eyes blazing with determination. "Whatever happens, I'm with you," he said, his voice low but firm.
Celia's chest swelled with a mixture of gratitude and fear. She turned to him, her voice trembling as she whispered, "Thank you."
He reached for her hand, his touch grounding her in the chaos. "We'll face it together."
The bond between them pulsed, a steady rhythm that cut through the noise and tension. Celia took a deep breath, her gaze locking onto the Shadowbeast as it advanced.
Let's end this," she said, her voice low and filled with quiet resolve.
The battle was unlike anything Celia had ever experienced. The Shadowbeast's movements were slow but deliberate, its massive form crashing through the clearing with devastating force. Its strikes sent shockwaves rippling through the ground, knocking wolves off their feet and shattering the fragile remnants of the battlefield. Celia moved with purpose, the energy of the blessing guiding her strikes as she struggled to maintain ground. Her blade was a burning light, the power it now wielded far more vibrant and sharp than the darkness of the creature. However, each strike seemed to only slow it further, its form shifting and reforming with each blow.
"Focus on its core!" Kaelen shouted, his golden eyes locked onto the creature's chest. "That's where its power is concentrated!"
Celia's eyes went to the pulsing, glowing red light at the center of the Shadowbeast's chest. Her mark burned hotter, the blessing's energy surging as she charged forward.
Aziel and Marcus flanked her, their movements sharp and coordinated as they fought to distract the creature. The pack moved as one, their bond a shield against the overwhelming force of the Shadowbeast.
The fight dragged on, the pack's strength waning as the Shadowbeast continued its relentless assault. Celia's chest ached with exhaustion, her breath coming in short gasps as she pushed herself to her limits. The blessing's energy burned within her, a steady fire that kept her moving despite the strain.
"You're not strong enough," the Shadowbeast's voice rumbled, low and mocking. "The blessing was never meant for someone like you."
Celia gritted her teeth, her blade slashing through the air with renewed fury. "You're wrong," she said, her voice sharp. "The blessing isn't about strength. It's about unity. And that's something you'll never understand."
The beast snarled, its red eyes narrowing as it lashed out. Celia dodged the blow, her movements guided by the light of the blessing. She could feel the bond of the pack pulsing around her, their unity a constant source of strength.
"Now!" Kaelen shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Strike the core!noveldrama
Celia's mark blazed white-hot as she sprang forward, her knife lunging forward, aimed straight at the pulsating light on its chest. The blessing's power surged, the glow a blinding force of energy that lit up the entire clearing.
The impact was explosive, the force of the strike sending a shockwave through the air. The Shadowbeast roared, its form shuddering as the light of the blessing clashed with the darkness of its power. Celia's chest ached with the effort, her breath catching as she held her ground.
The creature's red eyes dimmed, its movements slowing as its shadowy form began to dissolve. Celia's mark burned brighter than ever, the blessing's energy blazing as it pushed back the darkness.
"It's working!" Marcus shouted, his voice filled with hope.
But the victory was short-lived. The Shadowbeast let out one final roar, its form collapsing into a swirling vortex of shadow and light. The force of its collapse sent Celia flying backward, the ground rushing up to meet her.
When Celia opened her eyes, she was lying on the ground, the stars above her shining faintly. The air was still, the clearing eerily quiet. Her chest ached, her limbs heavy with exhaustion.
Aziel's face appeared above her, his blue eyes filled with worry. "Celia," he said, his voice trembling. "Are you okay?"
She nodded weakly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm fine."
Aziel's hand grazed her cheek, the warmth of his touch grounding her. "You scared me," he whispered softly, his voice cracking. "I thought I lost you."
Celia's chest constricted at his words, the connection between them thumping with quiet strength. She took his hand, her voice barely above a whisper as she said, "You didn't. I'm here."
Aziel smiled faintly, his face relaxing. "And I'm not going anywhere."
As Celia sat up, her mark tingling faintly with residual energy, the pack began to regroup. The Shadowbeast was gone, its presence erased from the clearing. But the cost of the battle was evident in the faces of the wounded and the absence of the fallen.
Kaelen approached, his golden eyes full of unease. "This wasn't the end," he said, his voice low. "The blessing is still restless. There's more to come."
Celia's chest tightened, her gaze drifting to the horizon. In the distance, the shadows seemed to shift, a silent reminder that their fight was far from over.
