Chapter 22: The Only Hope
Chapter 22: The Only Hope
At this point, Jason was discussing business with a customer in a restaurant.
Suddenly, the phone screen lit up, and Jason glanced over by habit; it was Felicity.
He was taken aback for a moment, surprised that Felicity would call him.
But right now, he was talking about critical issues with the customer and it was not a good time to
answer the phone.
So, Jason temporarily rejected the call.
Then, he continued to talk business with his client.
But before he even said a few words, the phone rang again; Jason glanced to see that it was Felicity
again.
Jason couldn't help but frown; he thought: What’s this woman up to?
The client saw that Jason's face looked ill, so he said wittily, "Jason, if you have urgent matters, you
can take the call first, don’t worry about me."
After hearing this, Jason nodded and asked to be excused.
Then, he stood up and walked away to answer the phone.
"What’s the matter?"
Jason's voice was faint and devoid of any emotions.
This made Felicity feel a little uneasy.
After all, it was a bit rude already to disturb him.
So, she replied in an apologetic and guilty tone, "I'm sorry, did I disturb you? I didn't mean to... It's just
that I have something to trouble you again, can you... help me?"
She made this call because she was really desperate.
Jason seems to have heard the helplessness from Felicity's faint voice. Did she get into trouble?
"What happened to you?"
Jason frowned; the coldness in his tone also disappeared a bit.
"I...I’m locked up..."
Felicity bit her lip and talked about her situation, speaking very quietly.
She feared alerting the guards outside the door.
Jason was startled, and frowned even deeper, "What the hell is going on?" Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
Locked up?
"I can't go out now; they are keeping me under watch very closely; so I need your help to pretend to be
my boyfriend and come find me..."
Felicity briefly described her situation and told Jason the address.
"…"
After he finished listening, Jason’s face looked unpleasant.
Previously, when he investigated Felicity, he knew that she had bad ties with her family.
But he did not expect the James family would force an arranged marriage to such an extent.
Felicity did not hear Jason speak, and she became a little panicked.
"If you come find me, I might still have a chance to get out. If they don't let me go, you can call the
police. They can’t imprison me. Also, they even have my mother..."
Technically, Felicity herself could also call the police.
But she was worried that Stanley would deceive the police by using his connections and rhetoric.
If Jason came, things might turn around.
"I understand."
Jason got a general understanding of the situation and replied.
“I'm sorry...but really... please.”
Felicity really needed help right now, but she didn't hear Jason actually agree, so she pleaded softly.
"Ok."
Hearing Felicity's pleading, Jason couldn't help but trembled inside.
He never had this strange feeling before, but on the surface he spoke quite calmly.
After he hung up, Jason's eyes had a slightly cold look.
The James family, what nerves they had!
Perhaps he had been out for too long, Garrett came out the VIP room to look for Jason, "Sir, the
customer is still waiting for us..."
Jason glanced at him, and asked without warning, "Do you know the eldest young master of the
Rhodes family?"
"I’ve heard of him..."
Garrett was a little surprised, why did he suddenly ask about the Rhodes?
"What’s he like?"
Jason wanted to confirm the nature of Felicity's fiancé.
Garrett was puzzled. He did not know where these questions were coming from, but he replied
honestly, "The public has very bad opinions of him..."
"What kind of opinions?"
Jason slightly raised his brows.
“A total failure! He looks well-dressed and does well in business, but it’s all a visage. Also, he changes
women like he changes clothes; he’s not old, but he’s already married three times!”
Garrett elaborated calmly, but between his brows, he obviously despised this person.
"Three marriages?"
Hearing this number, Jason was a little surprised.
"Yes, he has a serious tendency for domestic violence. Two of them ended up in a divorce because
they couldn't stand it anymore... Another one was disabled..."
Garrett paused and continued, "It was a big deal at the time, but in the end, the Rhodes used money to
cover it up. However, many people in the business still know of this matter and were afraid to let their
daughters marry him!"
Hence why Vincent wanted to find a wife; his family was rich, but with his violent tendency, he would
beat people beyond recognition.
After listening to Garrett, Jason's expression instantly sank, and his eyes had a cold stare.
To think, Felicity’s family would arrange her to marry a man like this...
Just thinking about Felicity marrying Vincent stirred a strong discontent in his heart.
What's more, she was to marry a man prone to domestic violence.
"I understand."
Jason faintly responded, his tone faintly mixed with a hint of hostility.
…
Felicity's heart was hanging from the moment after she hung up the phone.
She felt quite uneasy. Although she called for help, she didn’t know how effective it would be.
Because Jason didn't clear state that he would come.
Besides, from his tone of voice, Jason seemed to have other concerns.
Also, she and Jason were not so close after all, so her request was risky.
The James family was still considered a distinguished family, so maybe Jason did not want to get
involved.
If he came and saw bodyguards patrolling around, maybe he would be scared away...
However, this was all his choice; even if he did not come, Felicity would not blame him.
It was just that Felicity still pinned a glimmer of hope on him.
After all, with Stanley's ability, even if Felicity called the police, it would be difficult to compete with him.
