Chloe?
His voice sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn't quite recall who was.
It didn't sound like an enemy, though.
"Chloe, can you hear me?"

I quickly responded, "Yes, I can. But I've forgotten almost ten years of memories, so I don't really remember who you are.'
"D*mn," came an exclamation from the other end, followed by a rather aggrieved tone, "You really don't remember me?"
"I feel like your voice is familiar, but I can't place it. Sorry."
He asked again, "What about Carter? Have you forgotten him too?"
I could only answer honestly, "I know he's my husband, but I've forgotten the things that happened between us."
As soon as I said that, I heard a sound that resembled a goose honking-no, it was laughter.
"Hahaha! Carter, this is your day of reckoning! Chloe forgot me, and she forgot you too. Tsk tsk, and I was
the one who found her first," the man on the other end said excitedly.
He sounded so gleeful, completely out of sync with my current life-and-death situation.
I wanted to remind him to show respect for my predicament and lend me a hand.
"Could you help me contact ... "I hadn't finished speaking when a low, raspy, and incredibly distinct male voice suddenly cut through.
"Chloe, are you okay?"noveldrama
The moment I heard that voice, a sharp pang hit my nose, and tears immediately rolled down my cheeks. I knew it was him.
Even though my mind had forgotten him, my body still retained the instinct to love him.
At the sound of his voice, a flood of emotions surged in my heart.
He sounded a little nervous, his voice growing urgent, "Chloe, what's going on?"
I quickly answered, "Carl, is that you?"
"It's me, Chloe. It's me." His voice carried a mix of unease, anxiety, and an eagerness that couldn't wait.
I could hear his exhaustion and knew he wasn't doing well, so I briefly told him about what had happened recently.
"I'm fine, really. Don't worry. Sergio hasn't done anything to me except restrict my freedom. However, his 1/4

Carter reassured me, "I've already tracked your location. I'm on my way. Chloe, don't be afraid-at most, it'll take 20 minutes, and we'll be together again."
Twenty minutes!
Excitement surged within me at that moment. Then the voice from earlier chimed in again. The first man's smug tone was unmistakable. "You have me to thank for that little bunny I gave Chloe."
A female voice interjected with a scornful tone, "There you go again, you creep. You just couldn't let go of your obsession with tracking Chloe, could you?"
"Come on, admit it-you owe me a thank you."
The female voice snorted coldly, "Pervert."
Then, addressing me, her voice suddenly turned bright and cheerful, "Chloe, have you lost your memory? Do you still remember me? I'm Zoey! I'm so sorry. If I hadn't asked you to come pick me up, none of this would've happened.
"You've been out there on your own for months. Are you starving? Freezing? Has he mistreated you? Why is it that you always end up surrounded by lunatics?"
"..."
She didn't give me a chance to answer and continued in one breath, "It's all my fault. I promise I'll never ask you to pick me up again. I've already lost Whitney; I can't lose you too! Just hang in there-we'll get you out no matter what."

When she finally paused, I seized the moment to speak, "Don't worry, I'm fine. I haven't gone hungry, and I've actually gained almost 20 pounds."
Though most of the weight was because of my pregnancy, it was true I hadn't lost weight. And given my naturally slim frame, my face hadn't changed much from before.
"Carl, if you encounter Sergio, don't hurt him. He's actually a pitiful person too."
Carter was silent for a moment before responding softly, "Alright."
Zoey cut in with a sharp retort, "Are you serious, Chloe? Don't tell me you've fallen for him! Do you even know what your husband has been going through these past few days? And now you're asking him to spare the mastermind behind all this? You...
As soon as she finished, I heard footsteps echoing from the stairwell. I quickly whispered, "Shh, someone's coming. Don't say anything.
"Chloe, twist its left ear. There's a button to block our voices."
I hurriedly turned it off, and sure enough, their voices disappeared completely. This also meant they could still hear me.
The hurried footsteps outside set me on edge. I pulled out the pistol and knife Sergio had left me before

went out.
Having spent time with him, I could already distinguish his footsteps. Whoever was coming-it wasn't him. 2/4

I hid behind the door, my palm slick with sweat as I gripped the knife.
I didn't trust myself with the gun, afraid of making a mistake, so I stuck to the knife instead.

A man's voice came from the doorway, "Ms. Sander, the plan has changed. We need to leave
immediately. There's a mole among us, and the organization's people are on their way."
It was one of the bodyguards. While I'd never spoken to him directly, I'd often seen him conversing with Sergio.
"Where's Dr. Zimmer?" I asked because, to be honest, I trusted him more.
"Boss is temporarily held up and can't get away. I've already taken care of the mole, but our location has been exposed. Boss asked me to take you to the port where someone will be waiting for you. He'll meet us there soon."
Carter was only 20 minutes away, the organization's people were closing in, and Sergio wasn't there.
I had to stall for time-at least long enough to get out of here for now.
"Okay."
Sorted my
ever
waist with one hand and cradled my stomach with the other, moving as fast as I could.
But for five steps I took, the bodyguard only needed two.
"Ms. Sander, you're moving too slowly. Let me carry you," he suggested.
"I...
"Apologies, but now's not the time to debate propriety. Forgive me."
He bent down and scooped me up, striding quickly towards the exit.
Maybe it was the series of scares last night and today, but I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my belly.
As we emerged from the basement, I caught sight of a corpse by the door.
That must be the so-called mole he mentioned.
The moment I saw the blood, horrifying images flashed through my mind-severed heads, dismembered bodies, and explosions ripping people apart.
Something didn't feel right in my stomach. The contractions were becoming intense.
"No, I can't-my stomach hurts. Stop running and put me down."
"Ms. Sander, there's no time! Just hold on a little longer. If the organization's people catch us, it's over for you! We're almost at the port!"
As he spoke, I suddenly felt liquid trickling down from between my legs.
In the past few months, I'd read quite a bit about childbirth, and a terrible realization dawned on me.
"Amniotic fluid... My water just broke! Put me down! I'm going into labor!"

Why now, of all times? Affected by the stress, my babies were triggering increasingly frequent
contractions. The pain was unbearable, and I could even feel the babies descending.
"Put me down!"
