Fated to the Ruthless CEO

Ignoring Him

“I would never be complete without you in my life.” Those words echoed in Amber’s ears. After their talks on the rooftop, she didn’t say anything to Devlin. But he told her that he would do everything to get her back. He apologized that it took him five years to finally make a move.

She learned from him that he has been following everything she has done for the last five years of her life. He told her that he had her followed closely. And he even would go discreetly just to get a glimpse of her. This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

After all these years, she thought she would be ready to face him. There were many times with her conversation with Devlin that she was slowly melting to his words. However, she tried to hold back. She wanted not to give in to her emotions. What is the purpose to all of her success if she would go back to the past that she was trying to run away from?

And why would Devlin want to come back? Last time she checked, he was with Fiona Ross. He even took Fiona’s father as an investor in his company. The news speculated that it was his move to resolve some of his financial issues. His company was plagued with financial issues and other crises. She didn’t follow the news about him after she saw him with Fiona Ross that day.

After that, she visited Attorney Harrison regarding the status of her divorce. The lawyer was really surprised to see her. They communicated when she left for California. She was told that her marriage was not registered at that time. She didn’t hear back from Attorney Harrison after that.

“This is a surprise, Mrs. Wesley. How have you been?” Amber’s eyebrow arched up when she heard what he just called her.

“I am doing fine. I came here Attorney Harrison since I have not heard from you for a while. I wanted to know the status of my divorce filing.” She wanted to go directly to the point. That’s what she is here for aside from her stupidity to visit Devlin.

“I am sorry about that, Amber. Please sit down. Do you want some coffee or tea?” He offered but she only shook her head.

“I am going back to California tomorrow. I just wanted to take this quick visit to your office.”

“Very well. I already told you the law in this state. If your marriage was not legally recorded, filed, registered, you cannot seek relief under the marital dissolution statute. This is under the Washington law. As far as the state is concerned you were never married.”

“However, Mr. Wesley only delayed the filing for your marriage registration due to some reasons that I am not at liberty to divulge. I just checked your status a week ago and it was already registered.” The lawyer added.

“And? What should I do next?” She asked, a bit anxious. She really wanted to settle this divorce once and for all.

“Your marriage was legally registered, therefore you can now proceed to file a dissolution of your marriage under the state’s marital dissolution statute.” He continued, trying to explain the whole process to Amber.

“However, we have an issue. I checked with your husband regarding your intention to file for a divorce. He was adamant that he would contest the divorce. It could have been easier if he would not contest and just cooperate. This could be solved by guidance and representation of a legal counsel that you would hire. If you and your husband will not reach any agreement, then the case will proceed to court.”

Amber was extremely disappointed. What’s wrong with Devlin for holding her back with him? Can’t he just grant her full freedom? She wanted to talk to him to convince him to go with the divorce. Besides, he has Fiona Ross by his side now.

“And mind you Amber, this could take a year or more to settle the issue.” The lawyer warned her.

“What should I do? Should I contact Devlin and convince him to grant me the divorce without contesting it?” Amber asked with mixed emotions. She is angry, disappointed, and sad.

“If you can do that, it will be great. However, your husband is a very influential man. I hope you could talk it out and reach an amicable agreement.”

Amber still has this day to talk to Devlin. She has his number. She didn’t waste time contacting him after her talk with the lawyer.

She has been calling his phone for the nth time but he wasn’t picking up her calls. Finally, when she was about to give up, her final call was answered… by a female voice.

“Hello…who is this? You have an unregistered number. Devlin is taking a shower right now. You can leave your message.” Amber’s heart beat faster than usual. So, he deleted her number now. What does she expect? Of course, he has moved on that quick.

And after that stunt she witnessed earlier in front of his building, they went together to wherever they are right now. To consummate their love for each other.

Amber cleared her throat so she could speak clearly.

“This is Amber Adams. Just please tell Devlin to call me back. There is something very important I want to discuss with him.” Then, she turned off the call. She could not allow herself to talk further with Fiona. She can have Devlin all to herself.

On the other hand, Fiona had a wicked grin on her. Of course, she knew it was Amber who called. She just arrived when Devlin excused himself to take a quick shower. He carelessly left his phone in the living room where Fiona was waiting. She smiled evilly when she saw Amber was calling. She left it ringing several times until she decided to answer it herself. She made sure that Amber would think that they spent an intimate time together.

Amber did not expect any call from Devlin. She was certain that Fiona knew who she was. Fiona is the type of woman who wants to get what she wants. And now, she definitely has Devlin in her hands. Of course, Devlin would need her so badly to help him fix his company.

She would try to call Devlin later on. She hopes he will answer her this time. But sadly, it did not happen. She could not contact Devlin’s phone an hour later.

She went home all the more heartbroken. She will just let Attorney Harrison to handle everything. That was like more than four years ago. The divorce never materialized. It was Attorney Harrison who advised her to give Devlin some time. Probably, he would file the divorce himself.

Attorney Harrison made sense. She is not useful to Devlin anymore.

She suddenly gasped about her last thought. Useful? Is she going to be useful to him right now? Big businessmen and corporations have acknowledged her success in her field. She has expanded her business successfully.

What could her success do for Devlin? He is successful himself. He is well established. He was able to overcome some big crises in his life.

Thinking of him just gave her headaches. She decided to forget about him. She continued her regular work in her company. She met some investors who are eager to help her with her plan to open more branches in different states. Nothing is definite yet but the influx of interested investors was overwhelming.

Then the awarding event came. The organizer already called her to confirm that she would attend. Some of her staff will join her to receive the award for Company of the Year. She had to come alone though as Elijah could not make it for the event. He had a family emergency.

She came to the venue walking through the red carpet. She wore a signature dress from a famous designer. She was immediately flocked by the reporters asking about the dress she wore, her feelings regarding her award. But one question caught her attention off guard.

“Ms. Adams, is it true that you and Mr. Wesley were once romantically involved? We have pictures as proof for that.” She was really surprised but she successfully hid her feelings.

“No comment on that. I came here to celebrate with everyone and just enjoy the night.” She said confidently. She even posed for the photographers as if that question did not bother her at all.

She went inside and was glad that Abby came waiting for her at the entrance. Her secretary looked beautiful tonight with her black dress. She smiled and hugged her. Together, they went to their assigned table. Her staff were already waiting for her at the table.

The awarding program would not start until half an hour later. She just wanted to come early to the venue. Food and beverages were slowly served to the guests.

She was glad she did not see Devlin anywhere. She resolved to ignore or stay away from him as much as possible. However, whatever she planned for the night did not go according to plan.

Devlin arrived a few minutes later. He came alone but she saw his bodyguards in the venue. She would not really mind about having him around when she suddenly realized that he took a seat at the table next to hers. And worst, he took the chair opposite to her.

‘What is he trying to do this time?’ Amber swears that she is not going to be a part of whatever he plans to do tonight. She only shook her head in frustration.
