Chapter 19 I’m Your Husband
Chapter 19 I’m Your Husband
Her question stopped Julian, then a light smile slid across his lips. "Are you confused, you don't even
know your own husband?"
Husband... real shameless! Sadie silently whispered. She was irritated by it. "Can you have a little
contractual spirit? No one is here to watch you act."
Julian rolled his tongue and licked his lower lips instinctively, and he leaned towards with his forehead
onto Sadie's forehead to test her temperature. "Where else is it uncomfortable."
It was a natural action. It was not an act.
The clean and fresh scent of his body spread, and Sadie instinctively tensed up, her heart was beating
fast as if it was about to burst out of her chest.
Otto had never given her a temperature test like this.
In a trance, a familiar feeling came back to her. Her temples had a sudden pain, and she pushed him
away.
After having some deep breaths, she opened her watery eyes and shrank back in disgust. "You're not a
doctor!"
"Then I'll call a doctor right away." Julian lowered his eyebrows and got up to open the door of the
ward.
Khalid Hall waited outside the door and was shocked to see him come out with a gloomy face. "Is Lady
Sadie still not awake?"
"She woke up." Julian pressed his brow, and his face showed slight displeasure.
"That's good." Khalid exhaled quietly. It was good that Sadie was awake, but his expression wasn't
right, it was even worse than when she wasn't awake just now.
"It's not good, get the specialist in the brain department over here, and her chief doctor." Julian turned
around, paused, and added, "A fever is not so bad that it can cause a person to faint."
Could it be that the injury on her head had altered? Khalid was stunned, remembering the test results
he had received yesterday, and a cold sweat suddenly broke out on her forehead.
Don't let anything happen this time.
"I'm on my way," Khalid said and ran towards the lift.
Julian went into the ward again and sat down calmly beside the bed. He looked at Sadie's face, which
was as pale as a vampire. "Is there really no discomfort anywhere?"
His concern was not fake at all, and Sadie was slightly stunned and shook her head. "Just unwell with
a cold and fever, I don't feel anything else."
"It's good that you're okay, even though it's an act..." Julian took out a handkerchief and carefully
helped her wipe off her makeup, and he wanted to laugh. "I'm also your husband."
Sadie felt like she got stung by a wasp and avoided his hand, snarling in anger. "Stay away from me!"
Julian lifted his eyelids and slowly drew back his hand, his lips unconsciously pursed.
Her fear was real. She'd had that look every time she went to the basement with him as a child.
As much fun as it was to tease Sadie, he didn't like it when she showed her fear in front of him.
The ward went eerily silent, and Sadie glared for a while. Her eyes were gradually souring, and she
closed them eventually.
The doctor said that Dean Esme's second operation had not gone well and that they had done all they
could.
Otto would be in the country soon, and he said he would help with the situation, he certainly wouldn't lie
to Sadie. After knowing each other for so many years, Sadie had never doubted what he said.
As long as she could hold Julian back first, the matter could always be adequately resolved and then
she could find a way to get out of it. She would not be foolish enough to abide by the agreement and
pretend to be husband and wife with him when he had forced her to do so first.
However, she couldn't get past the barrier in her heart. Whether she and Julian were a real couple or a
fake one, she couldn't be with Otto anymore.
She couldn't let people laugh at him for getting cheated on, although she loved hearing him say
goodbye to her gently, loved the warm, soft touch when he kissed her forehead, loved the way he
spoiled her like a child.
When she thought of this, her heart throbbed inexplicably, as if it was being choked hard by a large Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
invisible hand. It was so painful that she could barely breathe.
From today onwards, all the goodness Otto had done for her would become memories, buried deep in
her heart.
That big brother who would pick her up from school whenever he could, would never belong to her
again...
Sometime later, the doctor from the brain department and the chief doctor came in together, breaking
the silence in the room.
Julian went out of the way and ordered Khalid on something at the side, and then he returned to the
ward.
Lady Sadie's temperature had come down a bit, but her fever had not wholly subsided.
The two doctors gave her a simple check-up and then arranged for her to go for a CT scan.
Julian followed her throughout the whole process. After getting the results, he asked the nurse to send
Sadie back to the ward, while he went to the doctor's office to ask about the cause of her fainting.
"The results are the same as before, and no alteration has occurred." The doctor frowned and looked
serious. "It's also possible that she didn't get enough rest. She had a cold followed by a fever, and that
she tends to faint when she gets too emotional."
The test results were fine, so it was really the because of the cold. Julian thanked the doctor, pursed
his lips, and turned to open the door.
When he returned to the ward, he saw Khalid standing at the door and frowned in disbelief. "Why don't
you go in?"
"That sister of Lady Sadie's was here." Khalid handed the tablet over, followed by the headphones. He
wanted Julian to listen to it himself.
Julian lowered his face, and he sat down on a chair in the corridor, calmly watching the footage
captured by the camera.
Inside the ward, Sadie's fever had not gone down, and she was lying breathlessly on the bed, so
uncomfortable that she could not open her eyes.
Libby Web's face was cold for a long time before she spoke mockingly. "Didn't expect that you were
that capable, it's only been a few days, and you've hooked up with a better man than Otto."
"What do you mean?" Sadie reluctantly opened her eyes, a trace of displeasure showing on her face. "I
don't have a fetish for collecting men, no need for you to put a label on me."
"Your acting is quite impressive, I almost forgot, you are best at pretending to be pathetic." Libby
leaned over with her voice lowered, and she smiled sarcastically. "Do you know why the dean is so nice
to you? It's because someone gave her a sum of money after adopting you."
Sadie's heart thudded, her mind instantly snapped a little clearer. "How did you know?"
After Dean Esme adopted Sadie, someone gave her money, how was that possible! If there was
money to be given to Dean Esme, why didn't he or she take care of her, who was this person?
"If you want to know, you will know eventually. By the way, let me show you a recording." Libby coldly
snorted, took out her phone and unlocked it. She opened a recording file in the app, then she passed
the phone to Sadie's ear.
Sadie was not sure what to do when she heard an unfamiliar voice pop into her eardrums. "Take good
care of her. This little girl will definitely bring you good luck when she grows up, don't you dare to have
any bad thoughts."
"Who would want that ugly girl? She can't even be sold." It was Dean Esme's voice.
"You'll know when the time comes, from now on you'll have to send me monthly updates on her,
everything in detail, that's all for today's meeting." The man said as if he was standing up, followed by a
soft hum of disdain from Dean Esme. "So ugly, no one would probably want it even for free."
The recording ended, and Sadie felt lonely and lost.
The hand hidden under the blanket was tightly clenched into a fist, and her nails poked into her delicate
palm, causing pain.
It's not like that. It's not!
Dean Esme loved her... Sadie tilted her head, and she bit her lip hard for a moment before gathering
the courage to speak, "Where did you get that recording?"
"It's a secret, aren't you curious as to why you were sent to the orphanage." Libby took back her phone
and sneered, "You take care of yourself, the dean is just using you to make money, don't be betrayed
and still treat people like your own mother."
