Goodbye, Mr. Regret

The gist of it was this: Inman's mother's family was only willing to fold their entire estate into The Wheeler Group on one condition-the assets could not end up in the hands of the children from the second marriage, unless Herbert was out of the

picture.

In the end, Herbert's father caved under the pressure of the entire family and made his choice.

Timothy's face was ice-cold, his lips pressed into a hard, thin line.

He didn't need more than this one headline to figure out exactly what it meant.

He'd looked into this before: the chairman of The Wheeler Group doted on

Herbert for his mother's sake, and always meant to hand the company over to him one day.

But Herbert had given it all up.

As for why-Timothy knew perfectly well.

It looked like Herbert had gone to Aetherion, too.

Timothy glanced down at his own legs, his irritation growing.

Why did everyone have their eyes glued to his wife, acting like he didn't even exist?

He dialed Vince's number.

"Did you see the news?"

Of course he saw it!

But Vince just laughed. "There's so much news out there which one are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb with me. You know exactly which one. Can you be any more fake?"

Vince finally raised a brow, a sly smile in his voice. "Oh, I get it. You mean the piece about The Wheeler Group? Saw it, yeah. The two sons fighting over the inheritance, and poor Herbert lost. Pretty rough for him."

Timothy let out a cold huff. "I doubt he thinks it's rough at all."

"How can you be so heartless? The guy misses out on the family fortune and you think he's not suffering?"

"Vince, you are such a fraud."

Other people might not know the real story, but Vince definitely did. He was just saying this to get under Timothy's skin.

"Sure, I'm a fraud. But when you need something, it's always 'Vince, help me out.' When you don't, suddenly it's back to calling me by my full name."

Timothy hadn't called Vince by his first name in years. Not since the accident...

"Don't forget, you still owe me for stabbing me in the back. How are you going to make that right?"

"Relax, I'm already on my way up with some get-well gifts."

As he finished speaking, Vince pushed open the hospital room door and hung up the phone.

He carried a basket of fruit and some supplements in one hand, a bouquet of fresh flowers tucked in the crook of his arm.

Timothy set his phone aside.

Vince came in, set the fruit basket on the bedside table, arranged the flowers, and suddenly the room was filled with a gentle, sweet fragrance. It actually made the place feel almost pleasant.

He pulled up a chair and said, “I know you're dying to come after me, but with your leg like that, I figured I'd save you the trouble and visit myself."

Timothy shot him a frosty glare. "You stab me, then show up with some fruit and flowers, and that's supposed to make us even? Am I that cheap to you?"

Vince scratched his nose, meeting Timothy's eyes with a crooked smile. "What do you want me to do?

I already stabbed you. If it'll make you feel better, how about you stab me back and we'll call it even?"

Truth be told, Vince did feel a little guilty about the whole stabbing incident.

If he'd been related to Jessica, maybe it would've made some sense. But he wasn't. He had nothing to do with her.

"A stab for a stab is easy enough to settle. I'm not in a hurry-I'll take my time getting even with you. But look at Herbert. He's so desperate to chase after my wife and so afraid I'll use the Wheeler family to comer him that he gave up his inheritance without a fight. And you you sent him out of the country. If I lose my wife because of you, how are you going to make that right?"

"Oh, so you do remember she's your wife? With everything you've done, is that how a husband should act? va Honestly, how do you have the nerve to say that? Jessy's amazing of course people are going to love her, want her. If you're jealous, maybe you should've thought about that before."
