Chapter 37
Chapter 37
It was Angeline’s apology message that she had sent a few hours ago, which he didn’t see it earlier. The second message was the one Angeline had sent earlier to inform him of Floretta’s whereabouts.
After knowing that Floretta was safe, he relaxed his brows. The next moment, he remembered something and looked at the calendar on his table.
I almost forgot. It’s the shooting day for Starlight Jewelry’s PSA!
Evander’s eyebrows knitted together again when he remembered the call he had made the night before.
Sylas walked up to Evander and said, “Mr. Golding, I’ll get some men to look for Ms. Floretta.”
“You don’t have to. Postpone the morning meeting. I’m going out for a while,” Evander said, then took his coat from the couch and walked out.
At the set, after Angeline asked Nancy to take care of Floretta, she took a glass of warm water and gave it to the director, who was sitting behind the camera. She tried to negotiate with him in a kind tone. “Mr. Fuller, could you change my lines?”
“I’m sorry, Ms. Sorelle. Golding Group has decided on this script, and they’re very satisfied with it. I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do,” Gordon Fuller, the director, replied with a serious expression.
Angeline’s face fell as her last ray of hope was crushed.
“Ms. Sorelle, you agreed to a fair competition back then in Mr. Golding’s office. Everyone’s watching. You shouldn’t try to bend the rules,” a woman piped up.
Denise’s assistant was holding an umbrella for Denise. The latter was a white shirt and a pleated skirt that complemented her long and fair legs. Other than that, her straight, shoulder-length hair made her look lovely and innocent.
When she was walking in Angeline’s direction, she bumped into Angeline’s shoulder on purpose with a smug look.
Angeline clenched her fists as she tried to suppress her anger. With a poker face, she said, “You don’t have to worry about that.”
Denise looked at Angeline with pity and flashed a smirk. She had seen Angeline’s script before Angeline did. Her new script is terrible. I can’t even look at it. Why is she still acting all high and mighty?
The live stream had officially begun.
Denise was the first to perform. The ten-minute scene was beautiful and conveyed positive energy.
“Cut! Good take!”
Meanwhile, somewhere not too far away, Angeline was sitting on a recliner, wearing a solemn expression as she scribbled on the script.
The film crew was touching up Denise’s makeup while Denise walked up to Angeline and sneered, “Good luck, Ms. Sorelle.”
Angeline ignored Denise and continued focusing on her script.
Denise didn’t mind because she was satisfied with her performance.
Victory is mine!
“We’re doomed. Denise’s online votes have reached one million, but ours is only two hundred thousand,” Nancy informed, her face pale. “How can we possibly catch up to her when there’s such a big gap?”
Angeline tightened her grip on the script. At that moment, her palms were stained with ink from all the writing, and her expression darkened.
I can’t lose. I just can’t!
After the ten-minute break was over, Gordon went over to them. “Angeline, the props are ready. It’s your turn!”
“Okay!” Angeline responded emotionlessly. She stood up and took the floral apron at the side before tying it around her waist.
Everyone was watching her as if she was a joke. Meanwhile, as if she had just made a critical decision, she walked toward Floretta and squatted down to look her in the eye. She patted Floretta’s head and asked gently, “Floretta, would you like to know what acting feels like?”
Floretta nodded without hesitation. Excitement and curiosity were written all over her face. “Yes! Can I?”
“No. You can’t.” Denise stopped her right then.
She did not notice Floretta until then. Before she could take Floretta away, Floretta shoved her off forcefully and looked at her with disdain. “Daddy told me not to play with ugly women.”
Everyone laughed when they heard that.
“You…” Denise’s face turned red, and her eyes were filled with anger. Since she couldn’t snap at Floretta, she vented at Angeline. “Angeline, have you forgotten who Floretta is? What if the entire film crew gets into trouble just because you asked her to be on camera?”
“So it’ll be fine if her face isn’t caught on camera, right?” Angeline retorted.
“Enough, you two. Hurry up and get ready! The audience is waiting!” Gordon instructed impatiently.
Angeline ignored Denise and led Floretta to the filming site.
Suddenly, Floretta slowed down. She looked at Angeline and said dejectedly, “Angel, I’m worried I’ll embarrass you.”
“Don’t be scared. Just do what I tell you to do later.” Angeline chuckled, then whispered something in Floretta’s ear.
The next moment, Floretta’s eyes lit up as if she had discovered something new.
Angeline patted Floretta’s head and said confidently, “Don’t worry. Just treat it like a game. I’ll protect you the whole time.”
“Okay.” Floretta nodded and held Angeline’s hand tightly as they walked toward the filming site.
“Angeline’s first scene, action!”
Angeline stood at the pork stall in her apron, chopping pork with a kitchen knife as she shouted, “Pork! Come get some freshly cut pork!” All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
At that moment, Floretta, acting as her character, walked over to the stall and gave some cash to Angeline. “Ma’am.”
Angeline gave Floretta a strange look. In a husky voice, she asked, “How much? The usual?”
“Yeah. A big piece, please.”
“Sure.”
Angeline lifted the knife and cut a piece of pork. Because she was guilty, she accidentally cut herself. As Floretta put on a band-aid for her, Angeline lowered her head and looked at her guiltily.
She put the meat into a bag and gave it to Floretta, who took it and turned to leave after thanking her.
However, at that moment, a murderous look appeared in Angeline’s eyes. She scooped Floretta up and stuffed a cloth in her mouth until she passed out.
Meanwhile, outside the filming site, Evander, in his suit, was walking toward the camera slowly. The crew members were so shocked that they couldn’t even speak.
Suddenly feeling a chill on his back, Gordon turned his head to look behind him. When he saw Evander, he was so startled that he dropped his microphone. “Mr—”
Evander’s expression was cold as he put his finger on his lips. “Be quiet.”
“Understood.” Gordon nodded fervently and quickly instructed his crew member to get a chair for Evander.
Evander looked around the set. When he saw Floretta acting with Angeline, he knitted his brows and suddenly realized something.
This is absurd!
Evander took a step forward with the intention of taking Floretta back, but Floretta saw him then. She flinched and gestured for him to stop as she looked at him with pleading eyes.
