Chapter 1123: I Have Liked Mr. Lawrence
Because there were other people in the private room, Albi was told that Ruth had gone to the restroom,
and the CEO's son had stepped out to take a phone call. Albi didn't think much of it. It was only after
more than ten minutes had passed, and neither of them had returned, that he started to feel uneasy.
He called Ruth's phone.
The phone was ringing inside the room, which convinced Albi that Ruth had indeed gone to the
restroom and left her phone behind.
But the vacant seat next to him made Albi feel even more unsettled.
In an attempt to quell his unease, Albi went to the men's restroom, but he didn't find the CEO's son
there.
When he managed to locate the man after much frustration, Ruth was disheveled, looking utterly This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
disarrayed. Remarkably composed, she said, "Got bitten by a dog. I'm fine. Let's go back."
Albi was about to go and find help, but Ruth stopped him.
Seeing Ruth like that, Albi had no choice but to assist her back.
He later observed Ruth's behavior closely but saw that she wasn't affected by that incident, so he didn't
think much of it afterward. However, he did eventually find the person responsible for Ruth's situation,
cornered him, and gave him a good beating to provide Ruth with a sense of justice.
But Albi hadn't expected Ruth to end up pregnant!
It caught Albi completely off guard.
Upon hearing Albi's account, Zane furrowed his brows, "Why didn't you tell me back then?"
Albi coughed lightly, "At that time, you were taking care of Mrs. Lawrence, and there were other
miscellaneous matters. So, I didn't get a chance to inform you."
Zane pinched the bridge of his nose, "Come to the hospital first."
Albi agreed, "Alright, I'll head over now."
After ending the call, Zane turned to Yanis, "How about I take you to eat something?"
Yanis shook her head, "I'm not hungry. Let's wait for her to come out."
Seeing Yanis insist, Zane messaged Albi to bring some food for Yanis when he came. It had been quite
a while since she had eaten anything, and Zane was concerned about her well-being.
Albi arrived promptly, bringing some pastries that Zane often got for Yanis and a cup of warm milk tea.
Given the circumstances, they had to make do with whatever was available.
Zane wanted to take Yanis back home, considering her health. However, Yanis insisted on waiting for
Ruth to come out.
Despite several attempts to persuade her, Zane eventually agreed, accompanying her while they
waited for Ruth to finish.
During this time, Albi also contacted Ruth's family. But when he relayed the situation, their response
was cold. After explaining the situation to them, they simply said, "Since you're the one who got her into
this mess, you'll be responsible for taking care of her. We don't have the time to come over." They hung
up without even giving Albi a chance to reply.
Albi didn't even have the opportunity to deny anything.
After hanging up, Albi looked somewhat awkward as he turned to Zane, speaking softly, "It seems... her
family doesn't have a good relationship with her."
While Albi had a good relationship with Ruth, he hadn't delved deep enough to learn about her family
background or relationships. Thus, he was at a loss about what to do now.
Zane listened to Albi's explanation and didn't say anything further.
After spending around forty minutes in the examination room, Ruth's doctor finally emerged.
"Who's Ruth's family?" the doctor called out from the doorway.
None of the three present were family.
Eventually, Yanis spoke up, "I am."
"The patient is stable. She took some medication in advance, so we performed a minor procedure to
clean the uterus. She'll be sent to the ward shortly. We'll administer intravenous antibiotics for a couple
of days to reduce inflammation. She can go home and rest after that."
After listening to the doctor, Yanis was somewhat dazed at first, but then she comprehended what had
been said.
She hadn't expected Ruth to be so resolute, deciding not to keep the child from the start.
"I'll have Albi take care of the hospital admission. He'll arrange for someone to be here to look after her.
I'll take you home to rest first," Zane decided after hearing the doctor's report.
Yanis didn't say much this time, just nodding softly.
Ruth was soon transferred to a regular ward.
Zane didn't go inside, letting Yanis accompany the nurse into Ruth's room.
After the nurse briefed Ruth on what to be mindful of and left, Yanis took a couple of steps closer to the
bed, "Do you want some water?"
Ruth, looking a bit distant, met Yan
is's gaze as she mumbled, "We didn't bump into each other earlier, did we?"
Yanis, who could still see traces of Ruth's previous state, couldn't help herself from responding, "No, I'll
get you some water."
Turning around, Yanis poured some warm water and handed it to Ruth, "Have a sip. If you feel like
eating something later, let Albi know, and he'll get it for you."
Ruth didn't respond to this suggestion, her gaze lingering on Yanis's abdomen. In a hushed voice, she
asked, "How many months?"
Yanis was taken aback by the question but answered, "A little over three months."
Taking a sip of water, Ruth nodded, "Congratulations."
Just as Yanis was about to speak, Ruth's voice continued, "I joined the Lawrence Group two years after
Albi did. I've been with the company for quite a while."
Her voice was soft and distant, like she was recounting a story or speaking to herself.
"You know, the first time I saw Mr. Lawrence, I couldn't believe someone so good-looking existed in this
world. Every gesture and movement he made captured your heart."
Ruth held the cup in her hands, her gaze unfocused, as if looking at something far away. Her lips kept
moving, the words flowing like a stream.
"Yes, I liked Mr. Lawrence. Ever since the Lawrence Group began, I've liked him. But I knew it was
impossible between us. So, I never crossed any boundaries and never had ulterior motives at work. I
focused on my job and worked my way up."
"As I became more and more capable, I realized that Mr. Lawrence had someone in his heart,
someone who shone so brightly. I, someone like me, could never compare."
Hearing this, Yanis was able to guess who Ruth was referring to. It was Neve.
After all, in the beginning, Yanis herself had thought that Neve was a captivating figure, drawing Zane's
attention with his looks and actions.
However, she hadn't expected that someone else had once felt the same admiration for Neve, a
sentiment that Yanis herself had experienced.
"But later on, when things came to light, I learned that Mr. Lawrence was already married, deeply
devoted to his wife."
"You... how do you know that he's... deeply devoted to his wife?"
Yanis couldn't hold back any longer and interjected, her voice full of curiosity.
