I Once Married You (Harper and Benjamin)

Chapter 89

Be Harper's Secretary

"Of course not, she was just tired last night. Calling so early might disturb her rest, so I had to answer on her behalf."

The mention of her being tired last night drained the color from Frank's face, rendering him speechless.

Benjamin interjected once more, saying, "Frank, remember that Harper is a married woman. Do you understand the implications of your current actions? If word gets out, can you continue at Mayby? If you want to avoid embarrassment, keep your distance from her. Even your years of friendship won't save you."

Without waiting for Frank's response, Benjamin abruptly ended the call.

Clutching his phone tightly, Benjamin remained composed, yet his gaze was showing coldness.

He thought, "This Frank is truly relentless."

He switched the phone to silent mode and then left the bedroom.

Harper slept in until half past nine, stretching as she picked up her phone. Instantly, Harper sat up.

There were several missed calls and WhatsApp messages, all from one person.

[Harper, what's the meaning of not answering my calls? Are you upset about what I said last night?]

[Are you really angry?]

[You're not planning to have dinner with me tonight?]

Harper ran her hand through her hair and promptly replied: [Sorry, I just woke up. I'm not upset, and of course, I'll join you tonight.]

The other side responded with a relieved expression, saying: [Good to hear you're not upset. You don't have to come over during the day. I'll be wandering around Mayby on my own. See you tonight.] Harper said: [OK.]

Then she got out of bed.

The bedroom curtains were tightly drawn, making it impossible to tell the time without checking.

What left her speechless was Benjamin's audacity to switch her phone to silent mode. Harper sighed and immediately changed her phone's password and fingerprint settings.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

After freshening up and having breakfast downstairs, she drove to the office.

She rarely arrived so late. Upon returning to her office, Sophia promptly entered with design documents, smiling brightly at her, "Ms. Mitchell, you look especially beautiful today." "Spill it. Are you feeling too tired lately and need a break?"

"No, I'm being honest. You really look stunning today, like... you've been touched by love, Ms. Mitchell. Could it be that you're in love?"

Harper's expression tensed slightly. As her mind was filled with images of last night, her face flushed momentarily.

Sophia didn't miss any of her facial changes. Seeing Harper's reaction, she became more convinced. "Wow, Ms. Mitchell, you really are in love!" "No, I'm not."

"You are, I can sense it. You seemed to be radiating sweetness! Ms. Mitchell, have I met your boyfriend?" Sophia was thrilled, brimming with excitement like a little girl who had discovered someone's secret. Before Harper could respond, Sophia asked in a low voice, "Is it Mr. Parker? But it doesn't seem like it. Your gaze toward him carries no admiration. Is it Mr. Martin? He had a fight with Mr. Parker last time. Is it because of you...?"

"Sophia, do you not have work to do? Are you so eager to gossip about the boss during work hours that you don't want to keep working?"

Harper interjected coolly, not allowing Sophia to continue her speculations. Otherwise, Sophia might end up imagining the whole story of Harper being married to Benjamin.

Harper wasn't someone who smiled often, but when she did, she was captivating. However, at that moment, Harper's face was cold and distant, exuding an air of aloofness that made her seem unapproachable.

Sophia straightened up immediately and said in a serious tone, "Ms. Mitchell, I've organized these documents. After you read them, I'll take them to the construction site for Mr. Kerr."

"I'll take a look first. If there are any issues, I'll find you."

"Okay, I'll leave now."

Sophia pressed her lips, not daring to breathe another word. She obediently left the office.

Harper noticed all of Sophia's subtle actions, smiling in resignation. She didn't actually get angry. It was just that there was no need to continue the conversation.

Harper finished organizing the design materials, and before she knew it, it was already lunchtime.

Frank had ordered some food, and they ate in the office. Frank didn't mention anything about the morning incident.

But he couldn't help noticing the glaring red marks on Harper's neck. The implications were evident, and his gaze turned gloomy as he tentatively asked, "Harper, have things improved between you and Benjamin recently?"

"Why are you asking like that?"

Harper thought, "I don't feel any improvement, after all, he doesn't love me, so where would the feelings come from?"

Frank didn't directly confront her, simply saying, "Just a personal feeling."

"You're mistaken then, he doesn't love me, so how could there be any improvement." Harper spoke gently with a fleeting sadness on her face. She smiled, "Let's eat, I don't want to talk about this anymore." Frank just made a low sound of agreement and didn't speak further.

However, Harper's phone rang the next second. The phone was on the coffee table, and both she and Frank could see the display name. She frowned and picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"At the office?"

"Yes."

"Why aren't you getting more rest?"

Benjamin's low, smooth voice was filled with implications, making Harper uncomfortable all over.

She replied calmly, "I have work to do. Unlike you, even if you don't go to the office, someone else can work for you, but I can't."

"How about you come to the Martin Group, I'll give you this position, how about that?"

Benjamin said it casually, but there was no hint of joking in his tone.

Harper was taken aback. "What are you going to do?"

"I'll assist you, be your secretary. What do you think, Ms. Mitchell?"

Benjamin's husky sound of calling her Ms. Mitchell made Harper blush slightly and feel a little nervous.

She casually replied, "I'll think about it."

"Okay, think about it and give me an answer, hmm?" Benjamin asked, "Having lunch?"

"Eating, and you?"

"What are you having?"

"Drumstick."

"Alone?"

Harper subconsciously looked at Frank across from her, their eyes meeting. Frank's expression remained unchanged, showing no sign of anything unusual. Harper got up from the sofa and walked to the window, then answered softly, "No, I'm having lunch with Frank."

Benjamin, on the phone, immediately fell silent, and Harper didn't speak either.

After a brief silence, Benjamin said, "Harper, so you'd rather have lunch with him than come to the Martin Group to eat with me?"

Harper was confused.

She was stunned for a moment before saying, "Benjamin, but you haven't come to find me for a meal either."

"Are you saying that if I come to find you, you would directly refuse Frank and eat with me?"

It was as if Benjamin needed Harper to give a satisfactory answer before he could relent.
