Chapter 47
Chapter 47
Mason's gaze was gentle, his voice slightly husky. He said, "The dress looks really good on you." Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
This was probably the most tender moment in their three years of marriage. Zoe felt a bit sentimental, but in the end, she just smiled faintly and replied, "Thank you."
The two of them went upstairs together. The old facilities made Mason frown, but fortunately, the broken light in the hallway had been fixed.
Behind them, a silver car was parked in the night.
Ava sat in the car, silently watching them disappear. She was wearing an elegant and eye-catching white dress that should have been for the banquet.
She had followed them from the Abbott residence.
Watching Mason lead Zoe out, she had never seen such a gentle expression on Mason's face. She had also never seen him so possessive, his hand almost always gripping Zoe's waist.
She always thought that Mason did not care about Zoe.
She also thought that Zoe had been tortured in this loveless marriage for three years, but at the banquet, Zoe was the center of attention. The way she played the violin was breathtaking.
That was why Mason could not help but kiss her in the car earlier.
Ava gripped the steering wheel, looking disappointed.
She could not accept this reality.
She took out her phone, selected a photo of Mason and Zoe dancing, and sent it to Lilith with a fake account. She believed Lilith would not sit still seeing such an intimate photo.
Ava lowered her head and smiled.
If she could not have Mason, Zoe should not have him either.
…
The Sanders residence was small.
Mason had to tilt his head to enter through the door. Once inside, he could not stretch out comfortably and ended up sitting on the couch, looking somewhat cramped.
Zoe, on the other hand, was calm. She went into her room, changed out of her formal dress, and put on casual clothes.
She then went to the kitchen.
Mason took off his coat, leaned back on the sofa, and smoked. His dark eyes fixed on Zoe's figure.
In the past, when he came home from work, Zoe had done this for him. However, he had never really looked at her like this before.
Even in bed, he had never examined her appearance closely. He only knew that her skin was fair, her waist slender, and her legs long and straight. He often indulged in the physical aspects of their marriage, even if it lacked love.
He watched quietly. The cigarette held between his fingers produced a thin gray smoke, lingering around him and creating a hazy atmosphere.
Zoe prepared two bowls of chicken noodle soup.
The soup was made from a rich broth from an old hen, finely shredded chicken, and a handful of noodles, topped with a plump poached egg and green vegetables.
Just the smell alone was enticing.
Mason extinguished the cigarette, walked to the small dining table, and started eating. He was not accustomed to these small tables and chairs as a wealthy young man. It took some time for him to adjust.
He took a bite and found it delicious.
Mason looked up, watching Zoe enjoy her noodles gracefully. He said softly, "Where did you learn how to make these?"
Zoe paused with her fork, a bit stunned. He still did not know she had no skills like this when they married. She learned them because Mason was notoriously picky.
However, whether he knew or not was no longer important.
Zoe replied casually, "It's simple. It's easy to learn."
Mason's gaze was deep, and he said nothing more.
After finishing the meal, Zoe cleaned the dishes.
Mason remained sitting at the dining table. He took out a cigarette but did not light it. Instead, he held it between his lips, watching Zoe's back. His eyes were particularly captivating when focused.
The kitchen light illuminated Zoe's figure.
Her lowered and focused appearance was quite appealing to men. At least, at this moment, Mason wanted to embrace her.
