She Lost Love, Gained a Fortune 155
1. Chapter 155 Bidding War
'Two million seven hundred thousand going once,' the auctioneer announced.
'Two million seven hundred thousand going twice.'
"Three million!' Micah's voice rang out just when everyone assumed the bidding war had reached its peak.
All eyes turned to Micah.
Only Mr Cavanaugh had the financial means to throw away three million on a pearl necklace, all the men in the audience thought jealously, while the women gazed at Micah, hearts all aflutter.
Darya herself was taken aback by Micah's exorbitant bid.
Was he doing this to provoke her?
Was he truly willing to squander such a vast sum just to prevent her from acquiring the necklace?
No one else spoke.
The hammer came down.
The auctioneer, breathless with excitement, confirmed Micah as the successful bidder and new owner of the legendary pearl necklace.
The next item up for bidding was a sapphire tie clip, an heirloom passed down from a royal family.
Oliver's eyes lit up with intrigue when he caught sight of it.
'That's a masterpiece by Edward Laurent!' he exclaimed, joy dancing in his eyes as he craned his neck to get a
clearer view of the tie clip.
'Edward?' Darya asked, puzzled by Oliver's enthusiasm.
A smile graced Oliver's face as he explained, 'Edward Laurent was a
renowned master craftsman who worked exclusively for the European royal families in the 19th century. Among his most celebrated works is the legendary sapphire tie clip. It's set in a bed of gleaming silver and the sapphire has a very unique hue of deep
blue.'
Oliver scratched the back of his head, suddenly bashful. 'You might laugh if I tell you this, but I actually studied design before I stumbled into acting. My dream was to become a designer one day, like Edward Laurent.'
Darya observed Oliver's sparkling eyes and knew that his passion for design ran deep.
Micah, sitting two rows behind, couldn't help but be curious about the conversation between Darya and Oliver.
He yearned to be seated next to Darya, eager to listen in on their private exchange.
As the bidding for the tie clip commenced, Oliver couldn't contain his excitement and promptly shouted out

the first bid. 'One million!'
As soon as he finished speaking, Micah's voice resounded through the room. Two million.'
'Two point two million,' Oliver countered.
'Two point four,' Micah said, showing no signs of backing down.
The tension in the room grew as the price continued to rise.
'Two point eight million!' Darya spoke up.
The atmosphere immediately shifted as everyone's curiosity was piqued.
On one side was her ex-husband, and on the other side was her rumoured new boyfriend.
What role was she playing in this rivalry?
'Three million.' Micah stared at Darya.
The room fell into a hushed buzz of anticipation.
Without hesitation, Darya raised the stakes. 'Three point two.'
The crowd erupted in excitement once again.
The auctioneer waited a long beat before saying, 'Three point two million going once. Three point two million
going once twice.'
He looked expectantly at Micah, but was disappointed when the latter showed no reaction.
'And...sold!' The hammer came down. 'The sapphire tie clip goes to Miss Darya McAllister.'
At Darya's discreet signal, a member of the auction staff packed the tie clip into a velvet box and delivered it to
her on the spot.
Darya turned to Oliver and handed the box to him. 'This is yours.'
'M-mine?' Oliver's surprise was evident on his face. 'I can't possibly accept this.'
It was too valuable and high-profile a gift.
'Darya darling, why don't I get a gift?' Callan complained.
Darya smiled. 'I thought you only had eyes for that writing desk. Oliver has given me a gift before. It's my turn.
to reciprocate. Besides, he happens to be passionate about design. The tie clip suits him.'
Oliver was taken aback, touched by the gesture.
'Go on, take it,' Darya urged, her eyes reflecting genuine support.
In her eyes, Oliver possessed a talent that could be nurtured.
Oliver accepted the box with trembling hands. 'Thank you so much. This is really...thank you.'
Darya just smiled and patted Oliver's shoulder.noveldrama
This scene caught Micah's attention once again.
He never expected Darya to bid such a high price for the tie clip, only to give
it to Oliver.
Why was she so generous towards the actor?
Micah's anger surged, thinking about the growing rumours between Darya and the actor.
Norris, seated next to him, dared not make a sound and tried to make himself invisible.
Darya knew the gift exchange had been captured by more than one camera. She didn't mind, but given the high-profile status of both Callan and Oliver, she knew they had to control the public narrative lest it impacted their careers.
As soon as the auction ended, she promptly contacted Glen Chasey, telling him about what happened today and asking him to monitor the situation online. Before leaving, Oliver expressed his gratitude to Darya once more. 'Thank you so much for today,' he said with a touch of bashfulness, his face flushed.
Darya smiled warmly. 'It's no problem at all. I'm glad you like the gift.'
After bidding farewell to Oliver, Darya settled into her car, with Callan sitting in the passenger seat.
As she started the engine, she glanced at her brother. 'So, what happened? Why didn't you bid on that writing
desk?'
Callan rolled his eyes unceremoniously. 'Because I was waiting for my dear sister to buy it for me, and imagine my heartbreak when that didn't happen.'
'Oh, come on. You don't need another desk. If I buy it for you, you'll either give it to Dad, who'll give it to Uncle Bill who'll use it as an apothecary table. Or you'll stow it away in one of your garages and forget it ever existed.'
'Still, it doesn't change the fact that you spent three point two million dollars for another man, while completely ignoring your dear brother.'
'I'll make it up to you.' Darya started the engine. 'How about a Bugatti Chiron?' Callan's eyes lit up. 'For real?'
'For real.'
Callan nodded. 'That's more like it. Don't tell Dad, though.'
'Why would I?'
Callan settled back into his seat. 'So, Darya darling, it's just the two of us here.
Spill the beans. Do you actually have a thing for Oliver?'
What do you think?
