Chapter 94 A Master Plays Ignorant
Chapter 94 A Master Plays Ignorant
"Dr. Watson has been summoned away again by Ms. Pouchain. I am very uneasy. Do you think Dr.
Watson has had a good day since Ms. Pouchain came over to our hospital?"
"She's an ace doctor and has a heavier task than us. Let’s ask her how she's doing when she gets
back. "
In Jeanne's office.
Riley held the back of her chair with one hand to ease the pain in her stomach, "Ms. Pouchain, what
did you want to see me about?"
Jeanne sat in a chair and looked at her with her arms wrapped around her chest. She wore eyeliner
and her make-up was delicate. But she had a scowl on her face. She looked Riley over carefully, "The
Dean has given orders for you to assist with the whole review. Also ..." She gritted her teeth with great
reluctance, "You are assisting Mr. Hardesty with the overhaul of the cardiology department for this
period."
After saying that, she threw a copy of the file at her and snorted coldly, "Riley, how on earth do you do
that? How come you get involved in everything!"
Right? Riley sneered. Who cared if she was involved in everything? She'd rather not be involved in this
shit anymore.
She took the file in her hand, "Ms. Pouchain, do you have anything else to say?"
Jeanne gave her a stern look, "The patient from last time decided not to have the operation in the end.
Are you satisfied?"
Well? The one that was discussed at the meeting, "Patients are instinctive in avoiding harm. What do I
have to be satisfied with? If you don't have anything else, I'll go to work."
She really didn't want to talk to Jeanne anymore.
"Stop."
Jeanne stood up and walked behind her with her heels clicking on the floor. She said sarcastically,
"Riley, don't think that just because you assist Mr. Hardesty in his work that you can take advantage of
the opportunity to do something dishonorable with him!"
Riley's mouth curled into a slight disdainful smile and she turned around. She smiled with grace as she
fought back the pain in her stomach, "How about you go to ..."
"Humph! No more business for you here. Get out."
It wasn't that she hadn't fought for it, but the Dean said she was new to the hospital and didn't know the
situation, whereas Riley had been here for a long time and was familiar with all aspects of it, and she
would be just the right complement to William.
The Dean didn't mean anything else, and he just wanted the hospital to make the cut.
There was resentment in her heart, but there was nothing she could do to change it.
Riley unfolded the file and read a few lines. Then her phone rang.
She was marking the highlights with a pen, so she just opened her phone and answered it.
"Dr. Watson, this is going to be a tough time for you. I was surprised by the Dean's arrangement too,
but ... I just got this notice, so ..."
Riley smiled graciously, "Mr. Hardesty, you don't have to explain. I know. And given your character, you
probably wouldn't abuse your authority to deploy me, a little doctor, to go anywhere."
When he heard her say that, William finally let out the breath he was holding, "I was just worried that
you might have misunderstood. After all ..." He paused, "after all, now that I'm pursuing you, there are
times when I inevitably have to use some tricks."
On the other end of the line, the pen in Riley's hand slipped and drew a long black slash across the file,
"Mr. Hardesty, I told you that we ..."
"You've got the file, right? Let's start today with the medical equipment check."
He changed the subject so quickly that she didn't have a chance to say anything at all, "Okay."
Checking the equipment couldn't take up work time, so they had a quick meal and then went off on
their lunch break to get busy in the cardiology department.
In the cardiology ward, the middle-aged man, Dr. Smith, smiled as the two youngsters entered. He
looked them up and down and found them pleasing to the eye.
"I heard that Mr. Hardesty and Dr. Watson are lovers, right?" Dr. Smith looked at them, then asked with
a smile.
William, however, said, "The frequency is stable and there's no problem over here. Let's look over there
again."
Riley tried to explain, but she couldn't interject when he interrupted, "Okay, and the controller is fine. It's
a three-year-old device, but it performs pretty well."
Dr. Smith had nothing to do on his lunch break, so he simply watched the two of them go about their
business, "Mr. Hardesty is young and talented, and Dr. Watson is a great doctor of the world. Together
you're a really strong team. Good. Very good."
Riley was about to speak again, but William seemed to be physically and mentally engaged in testing
the equipment, "The monitor's picture tube is a bit old and needs replacing."
Riley nodded and made a note on a piece of paper.
While she was taking notes, Dr. Smith kept talking to William about some irrelevant and seemingly
professional questions. She tried to interrupt him several times but was unsuccessful.
When explaining a misunderstanding, it was important to pay attention to the timing. If the best
opportunity to explain passed, it would seem that she was trying to hold back or hide from the lie.
And with Dr. Smith's comment about a "strong team and perfect match", and with the patients in the
ward catering to her, she was bound to lose William's face if she insisted on clarifying.
Finally, the examination was over. The equipment only needed one small part replaced.
"Why didn't you just say that earlier?"
Riley asked William as she walked out the door. She didn't have a chance to say it, but he did. He
could have said it in the beginning, but he didn't.
William put his hands in his pockets and stopped walking. Then he turned to look at her. Sunlight
slanted through the hospital corridor and reflected on the side of his face. His clean smile was
immaculate.
"What should I just say?"
"Dr. Smith seems to have misunderstood our relationship just now. We're clearly not lovers. By
acquiescing like that, you're going to make the misunderstanding deeper."
Riley decided to speak plainly to save herself from this kind of embarrassment again.
William smiled instead. His handsome face was soft against the light, "I was checking the equipment
and didn't hear what Dr. Smith said. Why don't you tell me what Dr. Smith was muttering over there just
now?"
Oh.
Riley's heart was twisted into a knot. So Mr. Hardesty hadn't taken it seriously? She was upset and
even desperate to clear the air, but he didn't give a damn about it.
It made her look like she was being overly sensitive.
"He didn't say anything. Let's move on. There's still a lot of equipment to check."
With that, she crossed over to William one step faster.
The man in white behind her looked at her back and laughed silently.
She was such a fool. How could he push her out in front of outsiders when he wanted them to be
closer?
As he thought about it, William took a step to follow her.
During the lunch break, they checked a dozen devices. The good thing was that no one was gossiping
about their relationship anymore, which made Riley feel a lot more relaxed.
After checking the fifth floor, William looked at the time, "Twenty minutes to work. You'll be sleepy in the
afternoon if you don't sleep at lunchtime. I'll buy you a coffee."
Riley was speechless.
Before she could say anything, William continued, "You have a lot of patients this afternoon. You should
have a cup of coffee to refresh yourself. It's not really in the realm of me pursuing you, but simply a
leader's concern for the work of his subordinates. I want my doctors to be focused at work."
Riley was dumbfounded. William had blown her mind. He was suddenly so voluntary, so generous, and
so resourceful. How could she say no?
William went to buy coffee, "A cappuccino, with milk and sugar. One Americano, with nothing."
He came over with two cups of coffee, "The coffee shop at the hospital doesn't have anything too fancy.
Dr. Watson, just makes do with a cup."
Riley took the coffee and smiled, "Thank you."
"Then you should work hard to repay the care of your leader. "
Every time he smiled, it was like a spring breeze, which was so warm and comforting. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
She worked for a few hours in the afternoon, and the pain in her abdomen disappeared quite a bit after
she drank the brown sugar tea. When she looked up, she found that it was actually almost time to
leave work.
Near the end of the day, Riley received a text message.
It was sent by Euan!
This was the second time he had texted her.
"I'll be waiting for you in the hospital underground garage. "
He couldn't have arrived already, could he? It seemed a long way from MBK to the hospital.
She wanted to call back and explain, but with everyone in the office, she had to text back.
"I'm not off work yet, and I have to change my clothes. I need some time. You'll have to wait for me for
a little while. "
Somehow, she, who liked to keep things short, managed to ramble on and on with her explanation.
Inside the car, Euan curled his lips in a faint smile. He tapped the screen with his long fingers, "Okay."
After getting changed after work, Riley went out and bumped into someone. She looked up and saw
the warm, smiling face of William.
"Looks like I came at just the right time. Come on, let's have dinner together."
Riley squeezed the strap of her bag and her watery eyes curled apologetically, "I'm afraid I can't today.
I have to get back first."
William's pretty eyebrows furrowed, "So, I'm still late, Dr. Watson, you already have a date."
"Sorry, let's make another date some other time." She didn't know how many times she'd used this
stalling tactic.
She didn't know whether he was forgiving or really believed her, he didn't expose her every time and
took all the blame on himself, "It's okay, I didn't tell you in advance. In that case, let's go down together.
I'll be home from work too."
The two of them walked to the lift together while the nurses next to them all covered their mouths and
laughed. Sure enough, Mr. Hardesty and Dr. Watson were a couple, and Mr. Hardesty even came
down from above to pick her up from work.
When they got on the lift, William pressed the B2 car park. Riley thought he was going to drive outside.
Her hand was outstretched, but she pulled it back when she saw the lighted button.
"You're going to B2 too."
His tone was pleasant.
Riley nodded stiffly, "Well, I'm ... driving too."
She froze. She had actually lied earlier. It wasn't really a bad idea for her to just say that Euan was
waiting for her, but subconsciously, she just didn't want to hurt him.
William's eyes fell on her right hand, "Your right hand, let me see it."
Riley hurriedly covered her right hand with her left and ducked away like she had been electrocuted,
"What for?"
"Haha." William laughed at such a big reaction from her, "I just wanted to see the old injury on your
hand. You may not say why, but the injury does exist. You can't deny that. Let me see."
Riley's mouth twitched and the corners of her mouth went sour, "Okay."
It was so many years ago that the trauma had long since healed, it was a wonder he could see it.
William took her right hand and carefully identified the lines on it. It was true that there were no marks
on the surface, but when he ran his fingers over it, he felt something unusual inside. It was a very
subtle difference, "At the time, it must have hurt a lot?"
Riley nodded, "Yeah."
It was painful. Her whole hand was on the verge of being ruined. Could it not hurt?
"Ding," The lift doors opened at B2.
Euan looked up from inside the Rolls Royce and saw the two inside the lift at once!
William took Riley's hand while Riley, shy and flirtatious, bowed her head and was communicating
something to him.
A few dozen meters away, Euan's gaze pierced the lift!
‘Riley, what more do you want!’
Stepping off the lift, Riley drew back her hand, "Mr. Hardesty, you'd better not ask. I don't want to bring
it up again."
"I ..."
William only uttered the first word, and Riley suddenly stopped. William looked up-
Euan, handsome and austere in his black suit, was sticking one hand in his pocket. He was tall and
was standing in front of the car. And his dark and gloomy eyes were locked on Riley!
