Chapter 2226
Chapter 2226
Tremaine knew Sheldon's speculation was probable.
However, he instinctively got worried hearing Yesseca had gone to the hospital.
"Get to the hospital. Call me as soon as you find out what happened."
Tremaine wanted to go himself but suppressed the urge in the end.
He worried he would run into Yesseca there.
At the same time, the doctor came out of the surgical suite.
He told everyone the bad news.
It was very likely Celine wouldn't survive.
"We've tried our best." The doctor said with distress, "Although the patient had only been beaten very briefly, she suffered an injury on her head. We're unable to remove the blood clot in her brain at our current level. We're terribly sorry."
The news came as a bolt in the blue to the Fernandez.
Calter pleaded, "Doctor, please save my wife. Do something. We had a neighbor who suffered an injury to the head and survived. Please, there must be a way."
The doctor said, "Our medical knowledge and skills can only do so much. Please make the necessary preparations."
"Slap!"
Suddenly, a crisp slap rang out.
Calter gave Preslie a harsh slap in the face.
He shouted at the top of his lungs, "You ungrateful girl, this is all your fault!"
Amelia took the chance to do the same as well. "Preslie! You good-for-nothing! You've killed your own mother! You're worse than a monster!"
Preslie had already lost the ability to react when she heard the news, standing there in a daze. She didn't even respond to both the slaps. Seeing Calter was going to make another strike, Yesseca stood in front of Preslie and said, "It was my fault. Hit me, not her!"
Calter pointed at Yesseca. "You think I wouldn't dare?! It's thanks to you my wife is dead!"
With that, Calter was about to give her a good beating when Amelia pulled him back.
Despite her sadness, Amelia didn't forget to scheme. "Dad, beating them up won't save Mom.
Come with me; I have something to tell you."
Amelia had always been his favorite child, so he naturally listened.
After pulling Calter aside, Amelia whispered, "We can only make the preparations now that nothing can save Mom. Beating them up won't do anything for Mom, but we can take this opportunity to ask for compensation. Since they're the reason Mom's dead, they have to give us their shop." Amelia was sad that her mother was gone, but at the same time, she had thought of something for the long-term.
She long had her eyes on the patisserie.
This was the best time to snatch their shop.
Calter said with a lump in his throat, "Amelia, I'm really not in the mood to talk about this right with how your mother is right now. She's on death's door!"
Amelia also got teary-eyed at that.
She said, "Dad, I'm also sad about Mom's passing, but we have to think in the long run. She ended up like this because of those shares. If we can get a slice of the cake, Mom would be able to leave in peace, wouldn't she?"
Her words tempted Calter.
While Calter and Amelia were scheming up a plan to get the shares, Preslie sat dazedly on a bench, looking like a lifeless doll.
Yesseca comforted Preslie awhile before an idea struck her.
She went to the doctor to confirm if Celine really couldn't survive.
"Our hospital isn't equipped to rescue the patient," the doctor replied, "Although the patient is unconscious, her vitals are stable. However, she'll only be able to carry on for a few more hours. You can accompany the patient and see her one last time."
Yesseca got the point from the doctor's explanation.
She quickly said, "Are you saying she might have a chance if she's transferred to a different hospital?"
The doctor gave a wry smile and
said, "Just barely. Our hospital is one
of the best in Agaphen City. Plus, transferring her would only quicken her death with the patient's condition. She might not even last a few more hours."
Yesseca pulled out her phone.
Although it was only a slither of hope, she had to try.
She had to look for Selina.
She needed Selina to help find the best doctors.
Since they couldn't move Celine, they'd move the doctor!
It might fail, but she had to try!
Just as Yesseca was about to dial her number, she suddenly heard a loud thud. Preslie's entire body had fallen onto the ground. Yesseca couldn't be bothered to make the phone call anymore, rushing to her best friend.
A distance away, another figure rushed over at lightning speed.
It was Sheldon.From NôvelDrama.Org.
He saw Preslie sitting on a bench as soon as he arrived. Just as he was about to walk over, she fell over like a kite without its string. Sheldon immediately ran over. He ran much faster than Yesseca, who was a lot closer to Preslie.
He supported her in his arms before Yesseca could.
Sheldon was stunned when he saw Preslie's face.
He had never seen her face that pale before.
It was as though her soul had been sucked out of her, paler than paper!
"Preslie! What happened?!" Sheldon grew anxious.
Looking up at Sheldon, Preslie moved her lips only to burst into tears.
"Mr. Hawls, my mom is gone! My mother was beaten up. The doctors said she won't make it!"
Hearing Preslie cry, Sheldon's heart filled with pain and sorrow.
He even had the urge to squeeze her body into his if Yesseca wasn't next to them, warming her up with his body, hoping she wouldn't be sad anymore.
Yesseca's heart broke at Preslie's cries.
She immediately said, "Don't cry, Preslie. I just asked the doctor. He said The doctor said your mom's vitals are still stable. If we can get the best doctor to treat her, she might have a chance."
It took a second for Preslie to react, but her pupils dilated right after. "You're right!"
Yesseca nodded desperately.
She said, "I'll call Selina right now. She must know who to call."
With that, Yesseca dialed Selina's number.
Sheldon's phone rang at the same time.
Tremaine was calling.
Seeing Yesseca was around, Sheldon walked off to the side to answer the phone.
Tremaine sat in the car and waited for Sheldon's phone call, but it hadn't come after a long while, and he got impatient.
Sheldon reported the whole situation.
Tremaine breathed out a sigh of relief at the update.
It was good as long as Yesseca was fine.
However, just as he was about to end the call, Sheldon brought up a request.
