Chapter 82
"This isn't right."
I frowned upon hearing what Casey said. The way she handled the hospital's affairs was completely unreasonable. The hospital staff hadn't been paid for months, not to mention that the hospital director and administrative officers had run away.
At a time like this, those in charge should have been held accountable, yet she was pointing fingers at the doctors and nurses.
Even if the Newton family wanted to take over the hospital at the lowest possible cost, this wasn't the way to go.
"Jace, why are you even taking their side? Everything's written clearly in their contracts. If they were ignorant and broke the terms, who else is to blame?"
Casey was displeased with my comment, but her expression softened when she looked at me.
"Jace, you're always so kind and willing to help people like them. I heard you've already made quite a few enemies among the management since you returned to the company." Her voice was full of concern.
"You make a great doctor, but if you really plan to stay at the company..." Her voice trailed off as she thought about it.
She shook her head and said, "I'll make you a deal. If you promise to work here at the hospital, I'll waive their penalty fees. Whether I sue them or not depends on your decision. What do you say?"
She looked at me with a smile. The nurses nearby all turned to look at me at once.
One of them, the same nurse who performed the surgery with me today, stepped forward.
"Dr. Ranford, please say yes. We really can't afford to pay the penalty. And you performed a surgery here today, didn't you? You've seen it for yourself—our hospital isn't that bad," she pleaded.
"You performed a surgery here? On whom?" Samuel asked, glancing at me. He had been standing by idly, but after hearing the nurse, he couldn't help but speak up.
I furrowed my brows. Nadine noticed the displeasure on my face and signaled the nurse to stop.
The nurse's eyes reddened. She protested, "But I was just telling the truth. If he would just agree to work here, none of us would have to pay the penalty. If he could help us all with just a nod of his head, why won't he..." Her voice faded.
"It seems you haven't let go of being a doctor. Why else would you come to a private hospital to perform
surgery?" Casey concluded on her own. She looked at me, her smile growing wider.
"If you marry me, forget just this one-I'll hand over every hospital my family owns
to you. Whether or not I waive the penalty fees will be entirely up to you."
"I won't agree to this." I shot back with a cold expression.
The only reason I came here today was because of my integrity as a doctor. I only helped out of kindness. That was no reason to guilt-trip me and force me into working at this hospital.
"Can't you see? It's not me—it's him. He's the one who doesn't want to help you," Casey said, pinning the blame on me. "Since that's the case, all of you will have to pay the penalty. No ifs or buts."
Thanks to Casey deliberately sparking conflict, the nurse's eyes grew even
redder. "Dr. Ranford, couldn't you just-"
"Stop it!" Nadine stepped in and glanced at Casey.
"Dr. Ranford was only passing by today. He's not tied to our hospital. I also remember that our employment contracts didn't include a
vel.n?
forever binding clause. If thenoveldrama
hospital refuses to pay us, we have every right to stop working.
"And how do you know everyone left without a reason? They were all still on duty ten days ago. They're on annual leave now. The administrative directors were the ones who disappeared without warning!
"We're entitled to ten days of annual leave each year, but we haven't used them for years. That adds up to one or two months of leave time. It's completely normal for people to on leave. So why are you accusing them of breaching their contracts?"
Nadine reacted quickly. She realized Casey was exploiting a loophole in the
contract, and she found a way to fight back in no time.
"Who's to say if they're on leave or just ran away?" Casey barked. She glared at Nadine, taken aback by her sharp response.
What do you think?
