Chapter 89
I tried to comfort Kourtney, but her tears kept falling. Her hands tugged tightly at my shirt, unwilling to let go.
"It's just a minor incident. Why are you crying like this?"
She stopped sobbing and said, "They were all saying bad things about you. I just couldn't stand it. I tried explaining to them, but no one would listen."
She was crying so much that her shoulders shook. "You must be really sad that so many people were accusing you of things you didn't do," she added, her voice full of concern.
I let out a faint sigh. In my past life, I had indeed been upset. I had gone knocking on doors for help, but no one had reached out. All I could do was accept the overwhelming backlash spreading online.
I had been pushed to the edge, while my enemies lived freely, using my situation as a joke to tell over
dinner. They had watched my downfall with indifference.
So this time, I refused to let them win.
"Hey, it's alright. I'm okay. That was just a misunderstanding, and everything's already been sorted out."
Kourtney looked up at me. Tears glistened in her eyes, and her long lashes quivered faintly. It made her look adorable.
"I couldn't help you even though I tried explaining. I still lost to those people." Her hands curled into fists, and she lowered her gaze in disappointment.
"No, you helped," I said and shook my head.
In both my past and present lives, Kourtney had done everything she could to help me. Her support had been the greatest source of support that gave me the strength to move forward.
"Really?"
She tilted her head, and I lightly poked her nose and said, "When have I ever lied to you? Go wash your face and come eat the food I brought."
She had been too worried to make dinner. When she saw the bag of food in my hand, her cheeks reddened.
"How did you know I didn't cook?" she asked softly.
"My parents made me bring it. They said that if I don't watch you eat, they won't let me go home again." I teased her, and as expected, her cheeks turned even redder.
"I-I'll go wash my face now!" she stammered and rushed off.
Now that the incident had been resolved, the number of followers I had on social media had hit ten thousand.
Seeing how things had unfolded, I realized the Internet held more power than anything else. If used wisely, it could open up new opportunities for the company.
It could push someone to the brink of ruin or raise them up overnight. I still remembered how business conflicts had played out in my past life-companies had destroyed each other with online smear campaigns. Now, I was eager to test it myself.
But that would come later. For now, I aimed to focus on fixing the company's internal affairs as soon as possible.noveldrama

"Have Rachel fired," I told Lindsey.
She nodded. "I'll contact HR immediately."
"And get Jason to come to my office too."
Everyone knew who had started the mess, but no one could be held accountable without solid evidence.
For now, all we could do was wait and watch. No one dared to make a move.
Jason entered my office with a calm expression, as if he already knew I would call for him.
"Why was Rachel found in your office when the police came yesterday?" I fixed my gaze on him. Unlike last time, this wasn't a chat. I was questioning him.
He feigned innocence and said, "She was only there to discuss work. Who could have expected that to
happen?"
"You call that a work discussion?"
Rachel had walked out of his office, her face flushed and clothes disheveled. These two were clearly seeing each other.
"Mr. Ranford, I know you're new to
this position and trying to establish
your authority, but you can't just accuse me like this!" Jason spoke as if he had been wronged.

He held out his hands and added, "I've worked for this company for years. I may not have achieved much, but I've always been diligent. Just because your father stepped down doesn't mean I should be treated like this."
What do you think?
