Once Upon A Rejection

Part 2 Chapter 30

Molly Morgan’s POV

When I regained consciousness I could tell right away that I wasn’t on the floor anymore. I hadn’t opened my eyes yet but I could feel the soft surface beneath me and whatever I was on wasn’t completely still, I was moving. My heart started beating rapidly in my chest and eyes flew open, they wouldn’t have abducted me would they?

“It’s ok Molly, you are safe.” June said. I was in a car. June was sitting behind me, her hand was reaching through the gap between the seats. She gripped my shoulder while continuing to reassure me. Now I realised I wasn’t being abducted, my heart rate slowed down and I looked around me.

Somebody had put me in the front of a car and strapped a seatbelt around me. Ezra was in the driving seat. Most of his concentration was on the road ahead of us, except for the occasional glance back to check on June and Vincent. He wasn’t comfortable with him being so close to his mate but his concerns were unfounded. Vencent was wrapped in silver chains so tightly that he couldn’t even move his arms or legs. Right now he was basically a burrito with teeth.

A terrible thought crossed my mind.

“Where are Talen and Grayson? Where are we going?” I asked, my panic levels spiking again. Why weren’t my mates by my side? Was that why Vincent was tied up so tightly? If he has done anything to hurt my mates, even indirectly, then I will make him pay a steep price for his betrayal. He would wish he had never been born by the time I had finished with him.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

“Calm down sis, they are both fine. They asked me to take you to a nearby pack while they search for survivors.” Ezra said. He reached up to rub his hand across his nonexistent stubble. He was hiding something from me, that was his tell. I had known about it for years but I never did anything to let him know that I knew. I couldn’t keep my mouth shut right now though.

“You’re lying to me,” I shrieked.

“What, no!” Ezra replied, I could see the panic in his eyes as he glanced towards me. Even June looked worried as she reached towards me from the back seat. I leaned forward, out of her reach. I didn’t want to be comforted, I wanted my mates to be safely by my side.

“We need to go back.” I was moving in my seat, maybe I could take hold of the wheel and force him to turn back. Either that or crash into a tree and kill all of us. Yeah, maybe that wasn’t the best plan I had ever come up with. A low growl of frustration left my throat.

“Whoa, you need to chill, I can’t have you shifting in the damn car.” Ezra complained. I could vaguely hear June in the background, her voice high pitched and strained through fear. As the only human in the car I could only imagine how terrifying tonight was for her. I took a couple of deep breaths, I wasn’t some monster who couldn’t control herself and I wasn’t going to traumatise my best friend.

Ezra watched me out of the corner of his eye, waiting for me to calm down. That was easier said than done. We were driving further and further away from my mates, with every mile my anxiety grew more intense. I wanted to jump out of the car and run in the opposite direction.

“I know you don’t want to be away from your mates but they asked me to keep you safe. They will be holding you again soon, I promise.” Ezra told me once I had calmed down. I mumbled in response and turned to look out of the window, not caring if they thought I was acting childish. I wasn’t happy with this situation and I wasn’t going to pretend to be.

When we finally arrived at the pack, I got out of the car and started working towards the pack’s luna who was waiting outside her home to greet us. June and Ezra hopped out of the car and ran to catch up with me, falling into step beside me. Out of the corner of my eye I could see a group of warriors pulling Vincent out of the car behind us. They were dragging him towards the house and they weren’t worried how many cuts and scrapes he got in the process.

Luna Davies greeted us warmly then showed us into the kitchen of her house. There were people everywhere, the whole house was packed with them, many of them with injuries. There were representatives from at least ten nearby packs in this house alone.

“How many people were hurt?” The words left my lips before I could stop myself but now that I had said it, I wasn’t even sure that I wanted the answer. What if lots of people are hurt, does that mean that Talen and Grayson are in more danger? I don’t even know how many other members of our pack they brought with them.

“We have no idea.” Luna Davies replied, her face was as white as a sheet. Her mate must still be unaccounted for, I have just stuck my foot in it royally. I needed sleep to restore the filter between my brain and my mouth before I got myself in any more trouble.

Luna Davies hung around in the kitchen with us for a few minutes, making sure we ate something before she was called away to deal with some other issue. Once she left we felt lost. This wasn’t our pack, we didn’t know anyone or where anything was. We sat on the floor in the corner of the kitchen and watched everything going on around us, powerless to do anything to help. Everyone was carrying the same vacant expression as they moved slowly around us.

At some point during this night or early morning I lost all sense of time. I listened to the reports from everyone who entered the house, hoping not to hear that something bad had happened to anyone I cared about. So far there was no news on any of our pack members, it may have been a good thing but the more cynical part my brain continued to throw doubt at me.

June had fallen asleep in Ezra’s arms hours ago. Even in sleep her eyebrows were furrowed in concern. She wasn’t close to her family back home so she had thrown herself into mine and Ezra’s family completely. Not knowing if my step father was injured was stressful for her, I was glad that she could get some rest. I just wish I was able to do the same. I had tried but I couldn’t get my brain to stop buzzing with too many disjointed thoughts.

It wasn’t doing me any good sitting on the kitchen floor feeling sorry for myself. I had to do something. Even if I only succeeded in getting everyone’s way, it had to be better than this. Grayson and Talen had been gone too long and my anxious brain was coming up with all the horrible things that could have happened to them.

Stretching out my muscles I slowly rose to my feet. Ezra waved at me to try to catch my attention, I ignored him and continued walking. Ezra lifted June in his arms and carried her as he rushed to catch up with me. June murmured but she somehow managed to stay asleep, I guess some things never change.

June had been a heavy sleeper for as long as I had known her. With my enhanced hearing she used to drive me crazy with all the extra alarms that she needed just to wake up in the mornings. She was even worse in the mornings after a heavy night out. I used to think that she might be able to sleep through an earthquake on those mornings.

“Where are you going?” Ezra asked, keeping his voice low.

“I’m just going for a walk. You can stay here, I won’t go far.” I replied. I knew he wasn’t going to listen to me but it was worth a try. If I could shake him then I could shift into my wolf and scout the area. Maybe I would run until the nasty thoughts were pushed out of my head.

“No f*****g chance. I know you and I am not letting you out of my sight.” Ezra shouted, struggling to keep up with me while carrying his mate. He didn’t stand a chance, once I was out of this building I could lose him in seconds. He would never leave his mate alone in an unknown pack and even if he did, he can’t shift. What was he going to do, chase down my wolf while he was in human form?

‘I’d love to see him try,’ Jade said, laughing to herself in my head.

As I approached the front door to the alpha’s house I started to increase my speed. Ezra was doing well not to fall too far behind me but he was already breathing deeply from the exertion. Once I was in the openI would leave him in the dust. In a few minutes I would be running through the forest with the wind running through my fur.

When I exited the building I took an immediate left, heading towards the forest. I only needed to go a short distance into the treeline before I could shift without being seen.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Talen’s voice spoke behind me, making me stop in my tracks. Before I could turn around Grayson had his arms around my waist and he was pulling me backwards into his chest.

“You better not be planning to leave us,” Grayson growled in my ear, sending tingles down my spine. Talen came up in front of me, wrapping his arms around me. I was being held so tightly between my mates that I could hardly move. I could smell the sweat and b***d all over them but I didn’t care. They were safe and they were here with me. I was relieved and happy.

“I would never leave either of you,” I replied.

“That’s good because you are already in enough trouble for trying to leave the safety of the house.” Grayson whispered in my ear while Talen kissed and nibbled on my neck.

“Not as much trouble as your two are for hiding things from me. When I get you alone, I am going to make you pay for that.” I promised.
