Part 2 Chapter 44
Molly Morgan’s POV
I arrived back at the pack hours ago and it felt as though time had ground to a complete standstill. Since we arrived I had checked on my stepfather, paced the house three times, checked my phone about five hundred times and eaten pretty much my own weight in chocolate. I had even indulged my wolf and lycan by preparing a little surprise for when Talen and Grayson arrived home.
Talen and Grayson had both contacted me via mindlink to let me know they were safe. They had killed all the lycans who stood against us and now they were freeing all of the werewolves who were being held captive. That was hours ago and I had no idea how long it would be before they got back home.
“Molly, there you are.” June called out from behind me. I turned around to see June and Ezra coming towards me looking worried.
“I went to check on how Ellie was doing with her new mate and she looks terrible.” June said.
“What do you mean?” It didn’t make much sense. I thought things were going well between her and the doctor. He didn’t care that she had already been marked by another, he wanted her regardless. I found it hard to believe that he would have changed his mind.
“The doctor said that her wolf is struggling because she hasn’t completed the bond with Hayden.” June clarified.
“Wolf? She was marked by a lycan, shouldn’t she have a lycan?” I asked.
“How the heck am I supposed to know?” June said, laughing as she spoke.
Oh well, I guess that was a really silly question. Ellie’s doctor mate clearly knew more about what was happening than we did so it made sense to talk to him directly. Maybe he could also explain why they hadn’t tried to break the bond between Hayden and Ellie yet. That bond would only get stronger the longer it remained, they should have broken it before now.
June and Ezra had brought him and Ellie with them when they came back to the house. They were waiting for us in the living room. When we got there Ellie and her doctor mate were sitting on the sofa in each other’s arms.
They both had new marks on their necks and Ellie looked happier than I had ever seen her before. It took a few seconds for them to notice us but once they did, the doctor practically jumped to his feet and bowed his head in my direction. It was a sign of respect that I still wasn’t used to.
“Thank you for taking the time to see us luna,” he mumbled while keeping his head down. Ellie burst out laughing, I could understand why.
“I heard that my friend is struggling.” I replied.
I may be the pack’s luna but I was still Ellie’s friend, of course I would make time to see them. Luna Ward had always made time to speak to me if I was worried about something. I had always assumed that was the case for everyone in the pack but maybe she only made time for me because I was from the beta family.
“Yes. Her wolf wants to complete the bond with Hayden. She is adamant that she needs him and we are worried what will happen if we try to break the bond.” He replied.
He sat back down beside Ellie and wrapped his arms around her, leaning into her shoulder. He was worried that breaking the bond would kill her, he wouldn’t say it out loud when Ellie was around but that was what he was thinking, I was sure of it.
“How do you feel about this?” I asked, turning my attention to Ellie.
“I should at least speak to him before I make my final decision.” She replied, glancing at her mate as she did so.
“It would be safer if you could find the strength to forgive him.” Her mate suggested.
“I know that, but what about my feelings? He was trying to kill me and everyone wants me to forget about that and take him to bed.”
Ellie’s whole body was tense and filled with anger. She was here because everyone including her own wolf was trying to convince her to accept Hayden but she clearly still wanted nothing to do with him. I was sure that she would change her mind given more time but was that really the right thing for her?
Surely the moon goddess wouldn’t have given her a wolf and another mate if she wasn’t ultimately meant to reject Hayden. That made up my mind for me, I would let Ellie see Hayden now. Before the bond got too strong to break and she was stuck with the dickhead forever.
Nobody spoke on the way down to Hayden’s holding cell. He was being kept in the cell beside Finn and his mates in the more comfortable of our holding cells. The ones that were more like actual rooms and didn’t have silver chains and torture implements lining the wall. Not that the Ward pack had stooped to that level in a very long time.
As we walked into Hayden’s cell he stood up and ran towards Ellie, he wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her neck. He was mumbling something about how much he had missed her but I couldn’t make out all the words. He was a complete mess, he looked as though he hadn’t slept in days and his hair was dishevelled, as though he had been running his hands through it constantly.
“I didn’t come here to make you feel better.” Ellie growled.
“I know you didn’t, I can feel your anger at me. I understand your anger but if you accept me then I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you.” He replied. He gripped her tighter and kissed her neck as though his life depended on it.
“Why? You wanted to kill me, so why don’t you want to let me go now?” She tried to push his hands away, causing Hayden to whimper and grip her tighter.
“I wasn’t thinking clearly when Talen caught me. I should have never bitten you without consent but I don’t regret making you mine.” Hayden told her.
They spent the next few minutes talking while the rest of us left the room so they could have some time alone. I tried my best not to hear what they were talking about but it was hard to ignore them when Ellie was shouting most of the time. This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“I was meaning to ask, why does she have a wolf instead of a lycan?” I asked, trying to block out the conversation between Hayden and Ellie.
“That I have no way of knowing. It could be because I marked her before she gained her lycan so she turned into a wolf instead or it could be the moon goddess’ intervention.” He shrugged his shoulders as though he didn’t really care what the answer was.
“If it was the moon goddess who intervened then surely she doesn’t expect Ellie to stay with Hayden.” I suggested.
The doctor shook his head.
“I’m not going to risk her life by assuming to know what a goddess wants. It’s my job to keep her safe and I will do that even if it means convincing her to stay with the a*****e who almost killed her.”
There were tears forming in his eyes and I knew I couldn’t push him any further. He was dealing with a lot of pain over his past and what Ellie was going through, I didn’t want to make things harder for him. I stayed with them for a little while longer but when Grayson and Talen arrived back I left Ellie and her mates to check on the situation upstairs.
There was so much commotion in the pack, everyone was talking about what had happened. They had stopped to drop the captured werewolves at the hospital but word of what had happened at the palace had already made it back here. People were talking excitedly about Talen’s bravery in facing Dustin alone.
My lycan was proud of her mate and wanted to reward him for his bravery. I wasn’t convinced by her assessment, I didn’t like the thought of him risking his life so recklessly and I wanted to make sure that he never did it again.
‘Maybe we could add this to the list of things we need to punish them for.’ Jade suggested.
‘I am fine with both punishment and reward.’ Scarlett purred. Of course she was. She was always up for anything that involved s*x, she was very predictable in that way.
‘Well, at least I’m not a prude.’ She grumbled before blocking me out.
