Nadine smiled brightly at Kieran and said, "Thanks for your concern, Dr. Gasby. I'm fine. I just didn't sleep well last night."

Ever since Brad left last night, Nadine hadn't slept well. She seemed to be asleep but also seemed to be in a dream. Her body was asleep, but her mind was wide awake. This cycle repeated throughout the night.

Nadine repeatedly forced herself not to think about Brad. But he was still in her mind, and she couldn't sleep well.

Seeing her sincere smile, Kieran nodded slightly. "Young people like you need to be aware of your sleep quality. You can't ignore it, but you also shouldn't stress over it.

"Keep your thoughts calm, and don't let your mind wander too much. That way, you'll sleep well."

Nadine agreed with his advice. "You're right, Dr. Gasby. I'll keep that in mind."

The two of them then went to Adam's ward. Kieran performed a series of examinations on him, smiling. Kieran would occasionally flatter him and even praise Nadine, making an impression on Adam.

Then, Kieran left Adam's ward with Nadine and reminded her to take good care of him.

After seeing Kieran off, Nadine went to the general ward to visit Sophie. At first, when she saw Sophie's medical records, Nadine thought it was just someone with the same name. But after seeing the patient in the ward, it was indeed the Sophie Wilkinson she knew.

As she spoke, Nadine skillfully pricked Sophie's finger and collected the blood. Quickly, she took a cotton ball and pressed it against Sophie's pricked finger.

Sophie was ecstatic upon hearing Nadine's voice. Her other hand reached out and grabbed Nadine's hand, her aged face full of smiles.

"Nadine, where's Jack? Is he with you? You've been the one sending money and making calls home for the past few years. Yet, Jack hasn't said anything. Is he angry with me?"

The sudden mention of Jack made Nadine's heart ache. She was silent for a while before answering Sophie. "Grandma Sophie, didn't I tell you before? Jack was accepted into the National Defense University.

"He graduated and is on a secret mission now, so he can't meet with the family.

Even I can't see him. The money I sent was on his behalf."

The bigger the lie Nadine made back then, the bigger the lie she had to tell to

cover it up. For a moment, Nadine felt a sharp pain in her chest.

Upon hearing this, Sophie wasn't so anxious anymore. Her frail hand tightly grasped Nadine's hand as she said, "Alright then. If Jack is serving the country, I can't say anything. When you call him, tell him that Grandma Sophie knows he's doing well. He's a good boy, and he must do his tasks well.

"As for me, I'm just a bag of bones. I don't know if I can wait until he comes back,

but I definitely won't hold him back. Don't tell him I'm sick."

Nadine struggled to suppress the heartache she felt. Her voice choked as she

said, "Alright, Grandma Sophie."

Nadine didn't know if deceiving Sophie like this was right or wrong. She could only continue to keep it a secret.
