Discovering Deasy suddenly staggering, then losing consciousness, Lucas promptly reached out to catch her so she wouldn’t fall to the floor.
Exerting all his strength, Lucas then carried Deasy and brought her to the bedroom, where he gently laid her on the bed.
For a moment, Lucas took a deep breath. Trying not to panic, he hurriedly contacted the apartment’s receptionist, requesting assistance in summoning a doctor to examine Deasy’s condition as soon as possible.
Fortunately, in the apartment complex, there was a standby doctor. It only took five minutes for the doctor to arrive and begin the examination.
“So, how is she, doc?”
Lucas and the doctor both stepped out of the room. They sat on the living room sofa, discussing Deasy’s condition and the reasons she had lost consciousness.
“Actually, there’s nothing to worry about. Pregnant women often experience various symptoms in the early trimester. Some feel nauseous and vomit frequently. They may also struggle to eat. Mood swings are common, sometimes leading to unexplained crying. Some may feel consistently weak and even lose consciousness,” the doctor explained. Meanwhile, Lucas chose to listen attentively. “And it’s likely the patient experienced a loss of energy. My suggestion is that she takes complete rest for the next three days.”
“But, it’s not dangerous, is it, doc?”
The doctor shook his head.
“As long as her nutrition and diet are well-maintained, both she and the baby will be fine. I’m prescribing some supplements to strengthen her. She should take them after breakfast along with the prenatal vitamins I recommended earlier. If after three days of complete rest, she still feels weak and struggles to get up, take her to the hospital for further evaluation.”
“Alright, doc. I’ll monitor her closely.”
The doctor then got up. Before leaving, he offered some advice to Lucas.
“Make sure your wife consumes nutritious food. If she has difficulty eating, you can supplement with fruits and some healthy snacks. Milk is fine if she likes it. The key is to keep her stomach from being empty at all times. If she feels tired, try giving her a massage.”
“A massage?”
The doctor nodded.
“Pregnant women generally enjoy massages on their legs, back, and lower back. It helps them relax and sleep better. Give it a try; I’m sure it will be very helpful.”
Lucas nodded in understanding, recalling everything the doctor had recommended.
Ensuring there were no more questions to ask, he concluded the consultation session. He escorted the doctor to the front door of the apartment unit and then returned to the bedroom to check on Deasy.
“Oh my goodness, Deasy. You poor thing. It must be tough in this condition.”
Lucas murmured softly. He pulled the blanket over her, covering her entire body to keep her warm. Then, he sat down on the edge of the bed, extending his hands to massage Deasy’s legs, alternating between them.
“Because you’re carrying my baby, I’ll make sure you’re in the best possible condition.”
Lucas continued to massage. For the first time in his life, he was willing to exert effort to massage a woman. Realizing that Deasy was carrying his child, Lucas was determined to do his best to ensure that Deasy’s condition would remain stable until the time of childbirth.
“Luc…” Deasy called out as she began to regain consciousness.
“Ms. Deasy?”
Lucas quickly rose to help Deasy lean her body against the bed’s backrest. After placing a pillow and ensuring Deasy was sitting comfortably, he resumed his seated position next to her legs and continued massaging as before.
“What are you doing?”
“Playing Piano.”
“Huh?”
“Yeah, I’m massaging you. Why you ask?”
Deasy sighed. She had asked sincerely.
“I mean, why are you still here?”
Deasy then turned her face, looking at the digital clock on the nightstand not far from the bed.
“It’s past 10 o’clock. Why are you still here?”
Lucas sighed deeply. Was Deasy really not remembering anything? While continuing the massage, he gave a lengthy explanation. He wanted Deasy to understand why he was still staying in her apartment.
“I was about to leave earlier, right?”
Deasy nodded.
“Yes. So why are you still here?”
“Well, when you suddenly fell and lost consciousness, I had to call a doctor to make sure you were okay. I couldn’t just leave you alone when you fainted, right?”
“An excuse! So, why the massages?”
“Just to make you feel comfortable. The doctor recommended it, and I just followed the advice.”
Deasy sighed deeply. Still feeling weak and not in the mood for arguments, she simply nodded.
“It’s late now. I’m awake. You should go home now.”
“But… Are you sure you’re feeling better, Ms. Deasy? I mean, will it be okay if I leave?”
Deasy nodded. Despite feeling weak, she felt fine. She thought that after getting some rest, her condition would improve.
“I really am okay.”
“Are you sure you’re okay? Or would you like me to stay here tonight?”
Deasy immediately gave him a stern look. Lucas had some nerve trying to take advantage of the situation. He’d be overjoyed if Deasy allowed him to stay overnight.
“No way! Who said you could stay here? No way. My home is not a hotel.”
“If all it takes is a scolding from you to make you feel better, Ms. Deasy, then you must be healthy already. Besides, it’s not like this is the first time I’ve slept in your apartment. It’s the second time, actually. And it was on this bed too.”
Deasy widened her eyes again. Lucas had the audacity to bring up how many times they’d been in this situation.
“Lu-”
“Yes, yes,” Lucas quickly interrupted. “No need to get mad. Just teasing.”
“How can I not get mad? Whenever you’re around, you always act so cheeky. That’s why it’s better if you stay far away.”
“Don’t say that. Antarctica is far enough. Between us? No way! Besides, there might come a time when you start craving for me and don’t want to be far away.”This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Deasy immediately scowled.
“Not a chance.”
“It’s possible. I’ll pray to God every night for that. Maybe someday, you’ll be head over heels in love with me.”
Deasy immediately made an unhappy face. She was about to retort to Lucas’s words, but he quickly got up and raised his hand, signaling her not to nag.
“Yeah, I know I should leave quickly, right?”
Lucas then prepared to leave. Just as he took a step towards the exit, he turned back around.
“Anything else, Lucas?” Deasy asked. She immediately felt uneasy.
“If, for example, in the middle of the night, you suddenly feel hungry, try having some noodles. But if you happen to miss me, just give me a call.”
Deasy grabbed a pillow and threw it immediately. However, Lucas had already closed the door before the pillow she threw could reach him. Meanwhile, outside, the bespectacled man chuckled, looking satisfied for once again making Deasy feel irritated.
