Anxiety and worry were something Lucas couldn’t avoid when he found Deasy, who had been sick for a few days. For some reason, in recent times, when her blood pressure was checked, it was always higher than usual. Even though Lucas had ensured that his wife consumed healthy and nutritious food. Also, her sleep pattern and stress management were normal, and there were no issues at all.
Taking her to the doctor, Deasy was asked to undergo recovery and complete rest. The doctor also prescribed some medication and vitamins to help Deasy gradually return to her normal state.
“But Mama and Papa don’t have a history of high blood pressure, do they? Why am I different?” Deasy questioned.
Because she had been sick for a few days, Diana decided to stay at Lucas’ house to help take care of Deasy. After dinner, they all gathered in the living room to talk.
“Well, it’s because you’re an adopted child,” Diana replied casually. “Don’t be surprised. If you’re wondering why Deasy is so outspoken and unfiltered, maybe that trait is inherited from Mama Diana herself.”
“Adopted from Mama’s stomach?” Deasy raised an eyebrow. “That’s impossible, I’m not an adopted child, Ma. Our behavior is the same. Mama contaminated Deasy until she developed these traits.”
“Nonsense,” Diana disagreed. “If you have bad habits, don’t blame Mama. Besides, how can you not have high blood pressure? During your pregnancy, you kept eating salty and savory foods. You were forbidden, but you still did it. Who’s asking for trouble?”
Deasy grinned. She couldn’t argue with what Mama said because it was true.
“Actually, every meal, Lucas always prepares and provides healthy food, Ma. But, apparently, we slipped up.”
“Your wife is just stubborn. She keeps looking for trouble,” Diana continued to complain. “Even when she’s sick like this, she still tries to sneak treats. Unbelievable!” Diana then turned to Deasy, giving her a sharp look as if ready to pass judgment on her daughter, who looked clueless. “Come on, Des. Behave this time. Eat healthy food. Don’t be selfish and only think about yourself. What if something happens to Mama’s grandchild in your belly? Are you okay with that? Will your baby get sick because you couldn’t control yourself and your diet?”
Deasy took a deep breath. What Mama said was true once again. She should be more aware of her own condition. Instead of giving in to momentary cravings, it was better to restrain herself and follow whatever Lucas had prepared for her.
“Okay, Ma. Okay.”ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
“Don’t just say yes, Des. If something happens, it won’t just affect you but everyone will be in trouble. If you don’t take care of your health, you’ll be the one at a loss. Do you want Lucas and your future baby to have a new Mama? Are you willing? Your handsome and well-off husband being taken by another woman?”
“Wow, Mama, are you wishing me dead?”
“I didn’t say that! You assumed that yourself. That’s why, think things through instead of regretting later.”
“Yes, Mrs. Diana Winterborne. You’re so talkative.”
Diana sighed lazily. Turning to her son-in-law, the middle-aged woman immediately gave Lucas an order.
“Take Deasy for a follow-up health check tomorrow, Luc. Make sure her condition is back to normal. If the doctor says she’s still not well, admit her to the hospital rather than risking any complications.”
“Deasy is perfectly fine, Ma,” Deasy reluctantly replied when Mama asked her to get checked by the doctor again.
“Enough, just obey, Des. It’s about taking care of yourself. Don’t complain too much. Do you want Mama or Lucas to accompany you to the doctor?”
This time, Deasy let out a long sigh. When given choices like this, what could she do other than comply? Rather than being treated as a stepchild or erased from the family list, she’d better just follow Mama’s orders. After all, it was for her own good too.
