Chapter 192 Her Indifference

Chapter 192 Her Indifference

Without a second thought, Avery responded, "Are you not coming home tonight?"

Jacob found that her serious demeanor betrayed a hint of excitement. He was threatening her by not

going home, but was she actually quite happy?

Indeed, Avery was a bit happy. After all, she had shared a bed with Jacob for the past few nights, and

he almost had sex with her several times.

Regardless of what Jacob thought of her, all she wanted now was to stay as far away from him as

possible.

Jacob reached out to grab her chin, his thumb gently caressing her lips. "Are you hoping I won't come

back?"

Reflecting on how she had been a nuisance in the past, Avery earnestly replied, "Of course. You're

Layla's fiance now. Your engagement is imminent, so you can't quarrel because of me. If there are

rumors about you and me, it will also impact the stock price of the Hill Group."

After saying this, Avery patted his hand and promised him, "Don't worry. I won't bother you like I used

to. I promise you'll have a peaceful night."

Having made such a sincere promise, Avery hoped that Jacob would appreciate her understanding and

stop tormenting her.

She thought her flattering words would please Jacob. Little did she know that he looked unhappier and

grabbed her chin with more strength.

Was she not convincing enough? Avery furrowed her brows in thought.

Jacob saw no hint of regret or sadness in her eyes. He withdrew his hand and coldly said in her ear,

"As you wish! Tonight, I'll stay at the White family."

"Alright, then I'll go home for dinner first."

Before he could spot any signs of sadness on her face, Avery swiftly got out of the car the moment he

let go.

Her departing figure showed no signs of sorrow, did it?

They had been divorced for less than three months. Had Avery already moved on from him?

From the rearview mirror, Jason saw Jacob's cold face and cautiously asked, "Mr. Hill, are we leaving

now?"

Jacob took a deep breath. "What did she do today? Who did she meet?"

"Nothing much. She just went to an art exhibition, did some shopping, and spent the afternoon at some

youth amusement facilities. She didn't meet anyone."

Jacob frowned. "Keep an eye on her."

If he hadn't confirmed that nothing happened between Avery and that man on the island, he would

have suspected that she had fallen for someone else.

His feelings for her were strong enough to overcome even hatred. As time passed, he found it

increasingly difficult to live without Avery.

But Avery was completely different. Her dependence on him was zero, and her eyes no longer sparkled

when she looked at him.

He glanced at his phone. When they were on good terms, she would constantly message and call him.

No matter how busy he was, he would find time to reply to her.

Even when their relationship soured and he treated her coldly on purpose, she would still send him at

least a dozen messages a day. But now, he didn't receive a single call or message from her all day. Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

Realizing that he was no longer the most important person in Avery's life, Jacob felt as though his heart

was being tightly squeezed.

How could he know that Avery had become so cautious, fearing that she might upset him no matter

what she did?

All she wanted was to stay as far away from him as possible. Why would she risk upsetting him?

Did she have the right to dictate his actions in her current status?

Furthermore, her heart felt as though it had been placed on a frying pan, slowly being cooked over a

small fire by Jacob and Layla over the past two years. Any stubborn belief she once held had long

since vanished.

She returned to her room without looking back, skipping dinner.

Every time she closed her eyes, she thought of the corpse she had seen.

Avery could only hope that Frank would uncover the truth soon.

After taking a bath, she went to bed, oblivious to Jacob's frequent glances at his phone.

He had already said that he would spend the night in the White family. He didn't believe that Avery

could remain indifferent!

By now, she should be calling him.
