Anderson had gone to the Barlow Estate?
Perhaps he had gone there to settle the amulment.
When Mayra returned to the Barlow mansion, she indeed didn’t see Anderson. Thus, she ate dinner by herself.
When she did her homework in the room, she locked the door from NôvelDrama.Org: owner of this content.
the inside.
Fragments of teacups were scattered on the floor of the Barlow Estate. Sonia held her cane while trembling in anger. “You bastard! How could you do something so heartless? Are you trying to drive. your father to his grave?”
Anderson took off his suit jacket. Isabel, who acted like a dutiful wife, took his suit jacket and hung it on a nearby coat rack. Seeing the tea on Anderson’s shoes, a maid brought a cloth. Isabel took it over, squatted down, and was about to clean it for Anderson.
He helped her up. “This isn’t something you should be doing.”
On the other hand, Caroline quickly calmed the situation. “Madam Sonia, the doctor advised you not to get upset! Now that everyone is here, let’s have them take their seats.”
As someone with propriety, Sonia wouldn’t have scolded Anderson in front of everyone without a good reason.
“Today is Mr. George’s death anniversary. The chaos wouldn’t look good with such a crowd here.”
Today’s attendees included several of George’s previous
mistresses. After monogamy was normalized, many of his mistresses left. However, George continued to provide for those who were willing to stay. Whoever had offspring with George would be treated with respect.
Originally, there were nine mistresses, but only three remained now. One had died, while the other two remarried with dowries provided by George. He had never mistreated any of his
mistresses.
Sonia wasn’t George’s primary wife. The primary wife had died early, leaving behind only one child. That child was Anderson’s father, Howard.
Although Howard wasn’t Sonia’s biological son, she had cared for her like her own. That was how she earned a place by George’s side and eventually became the household’s matriarch.
Those who came today did so partly out of respect for the Barlow family. During the famine, many good–looking bachelorettes, regardless of age, had a chance to be George’s mistresses. They did it primarily to secure food.
Additionally, the Barlow family’s status provided a reliable support system for poorer families. During those chaotic times, survival itself was already an achievement.
Anderson was the Barlow family’s only legitimate heir and eldest son. According to tradition, those from secondary households shouldn’t be here. But since today was George’s death anniversary, there was an exception. Many gathered in the Barlow Estate.
Even though noises echoed in the living room, no one dared to watch too closely.
“He’s run away from home for so many years. Grandma, didn’t you always want him to come back? Aren’t you supposed to be happy
that he has returned now?”
Sonia pounded her cane. “Regardless of how much he wronged your mother, you shouldn’t have sent him to prison!”
“My father? I’ve shown him enough mercy by letting him live that long.”
“How dare you!” Sonia raised her can and was ready to strike Anderson. However, Isabel stepped in front of him. “Grandma, Andy is just speaking out of anger. Please don’t be mad at him.”
Sonia reluctantly lowered her cane. She let out a frustrated huff.” Make sure nothing bad happens to him. Otherwise, you’ll regret it.”
Sensing the grimness Anderson exuded, Isabel clung to his arm and looked up at him. “Andy, I’m not feeling well. Can you take me back to the room?”
