Chapter 268 In the Same Boat

Eric didn't notice anything unusual about me. He just seemed a little dispirited that I didn't respond to him.

I remained silent the whole time, waiting quietly for things to go back to their usual state. When we arrived home, I felt a little dazed as I watched Eric climb the stairs.

I seemed to feel lost about what happened earlier. What on earth was I scared of?

These concerns didn't haunt me for long, though. I was exhausted from everything that happened that day, and my entire body was sore.

After I washed up, I lay on the bed and dozed off. By the time I woke up, it was the beginning of my life as a chef.

Once I made arrangements at work, I drove to Mr. Simpson's villa and cooked for him. After I did the dishes and packed everything up, I went back to the company and toiled away.

A few days later, I was surprised to find Jeremiah at the entrance to Mr. Simpson's villa. However, Elsa didn't follow him this time.

Jeremiah scoffed when he saw me walking over as if he knew this would happen.

"As expected, there was no way you could have persuaded Mr. Simpson that easily last time," he said tauntingly. "You might've left cockily, but you still have to come back and grovel at his feet now."

I smiled and asked, "Why isn't Elsa with you this time? Did you two get into a fight last time?"

Although I couldn't see my own expression, I could guess by the look on Jeremiah's face that my smile was very provocative.

Jeremiah's expression darkened, and his eyes became shifty. He rubbed his head uneasily and asked, "What gave you the idea? Elsa can't be here because there's something else she has to do today. Will you stop making wild guesses?"

I pursed my lips, showing him that I didn't believe in him. I had long noticed that Jeremiah would instinctively rub his head every time he lied.

I shrugged in response. Then, I giggled and said, "Here's wishing that she can make some time and keep you company next time."

Jeremiah scoffed when he heard what I said. He wore a disdainful expression and retorted, "Stop the ridicules, Jane. We're in the same boat now. So, knock it off. Both of us have to stand here and wait for Mr. Simpson. It's important that we get along."

I hurriedly waved. The last thing I wanted was for him to think that we were in the same situation.

"We're not. What gave you the idea that I came here to grovel at Mr. Simpson's feet? Seriously. You should've done yourself a favor and become a novelist with this rich imagination of yours."

Then, I pulled out my phone and sent Mr. Simpson an audio message. "I've been at the door for a long time now, Mr. Simpson. Why aren't you opening the door for me?"

When we reached an agreement for me to make him lunch every day, Mr. Simpson gave me an access card However, I rushed out the door this morning and forgot to take it with me. So, I had to ask him to open the door for me. sŵnovel

At the next moment, Mr. Simpson responded to me from the door, "Stop urging me. I'm old, and I don't move as quickly as you young folks."

Then, the door swung open.

Mr. Simpson stood at the door and gave me a displeased look. He couldn't help but complain, "I'm going to get someone to change the door someday. I won't have to walk all the time if it can be controlled remotely."

I couldn't help but smile. "Mrs. Simpson didn't have to give everyone in the villa time off just because she wouldn't be around. Now, you don't even have anyone to open the door for you."

Mr. Simpson immediately lifted his chin when he heard what I said, looking proud. "It can't be helped. They're too noisy for me when my wife isn't around. Hurry up and get in. I'm starving." He waved at me with an anxious look on his face. Cóntent noveldrama

"Okay." I nodded and entered the villa obediently.

Jeremiah was utterly dumbfounded and stood frozen in his spot when he saw the exchange between me and Mr. Simpson.

He didn't spring into action and stood between us until I was about to enter. "Wait

a minute!"
