Then, he hung up.

How could that even be possible? But before I knew it, I was on my feet, grabbing my bag and rushing out the door.

Pinecrest Hotel was Ethan's go-to place. He even had a permanent room there. But why would he choose Room 1008?

I asked him once why he picked Room 1008, and he said it was my birthday. If he was cheating on me, why would he do it there? I couldn't figure out what he was up to. Half an hour later, I pulled up at Pinecrest Hotel. I took a deep breath, walked straight to the front desk, and asked for a key card to Room 1008.

Ethan had told the hotel to let me into the room anytime, so I had free access whenever I wanted.

I took the elevator up, my heart pounding in my chest. When it dinged on the tenth floor, I stepped off, my body shaking. Then, I made my way down the hall to Room 1008.

I paused by the door, took a deep breath, swiped my key card, and pushed the door open. What I saw inside burned into my memory.

A petite woman had her back to me as she straddled Ethan. She was wearing a sheer silk nightgown that clung to her curves.

Ethan was shirtless, holding her waist and kissing her like he couldn't get enough.

"No!" I screamed, shutting my eyes tight as my heart shattered.

This couldn't be real. Ethan promised he'd never leave me, but the scene before me felt way too real.

My whole body was shaking as I opened my eyes again. Nothing had changed. They were still all over each other, completely oblivious to me and lost in their world,

"Ethan!" I cried, tears pouring down my face.

They jerked apart, and Ethan looked at me in shock. "E-Evelyn? What brings you here?"

The woman turned to me, wearing a twisted grin. I took a second look and realized it was Vivian.

She sneered, her tone oozing with disdain. "Well, look who it is Ms. Wiley. It's been a while. I never thought we'd run into each other like this."

I felt lightheaded, a lump catching in my throat. I couldn't find the words.

Why Vivian? Of all people.

"W-What are you two doing?" I managed to choke out, my voice quivering and tears rolling down.

"Isn't it obvious?" Vivian scoffed. "We're having a good time. What's the matter? You can't handle it?"

"That's bullshit!" Ethan shouted and shoved her away. "Let me explain, Evelyn. It's not what it looks like."

He sprang to his feet and hurried toward me, clearly flustered.

I stepped back, raising my hands to ward him off. Tears blurred my vision as I glared at him. "Stay back! You two are already at this point! What's there left to explain?"

"I didn't do anything!" Ethan freaked out. "I swear, I didn't touch her! I didn't see it coming. She came onto me, and before I could push her away, you walked in. You've got to trust me!"

"Trust you?" I gave a bitter smile, tears falling once more.
