Chapter 3251 Display Of Tyranny
The alarm blared loudly. Large groups of armed and ready warriors for the alliance rushed over. "Hurry, hurry, hurry..."
"Everyone, be on full alert. Shoot to kill whoever dares to breach our defenses."
Upon seeing this scene, Nathan furrowed his brows slightly, but didn't say anything. The alliance had surrounded vampire-occupied territory and was guarding it strictly, preventing the vampires from breaking through. It was understandable that the sudden appearance of so many people had alarmed the guards there. The line of defense was under the charge of Steel Wings, the star troops of Daprein. At that moment, a burly officer, wearing black combat boots and squinting his eagle-like eyes, hurriedly arrived with a large group of subordinates.
He was Colonel Digby of the Steel Wings. With a hostile gaze, Digby scanned the entire crowd, his eyes finally resting on Nathan and his companions. Coldly, he asked, "Who are you all, and what brings you here?"
Since Nathan was wearing the most ordinary alliance warrior uniform and a warrior mask, Digby didn't recognize him. Nathan stepped forward and explained, "These are civilians who have escaped from shelters in the vampire-occupied territory. Some of them are bounty hunters."
"Requesting permission to pass through the defense line and enter the safe zone," he continued. Upon hearing this, Digby sneered, "Are they civilians just because you say so?"
"Who do you think you are?" he questioned further. Although Nathan's expression remained unchanged, Colin and Sevan, who were by his side, grew angry the minute they heard those words. Colin scolded, "How dare you have the audacity to act out of line in front of the commander-in-chief of the alliance! You're just a mere colonel. I'll skin you alive!"
Commander-in-chief?
Upon hearing this, Digby couldn't help but be startled. He looked at Nathan with uncertainty and scrutinized him carefully. Although Nathan was wearing an alliance uniform, there were hardly any decent warriors around him. Instead, he was surrounded by a disorderly, large crowd. He couldn't help but have his doubts. How could the commander-in-chief of the alliance have such an appearance? It just didn't seem right. Just then, his lieutenant colonel whispered in his ear.All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
"Colonel Digby, I have heard that the commander-in-chief led a team into the vampire-occupied territory to carry out a secret mission."
"But hasn't the commander-in-chief's team already returned? Apparently, they even captured two vampire princes. How is it that now there's another commander-in-chief making an appearance? He must be a fake."
Exactly! The commander-in-chief's special operations unit just returned not too long ago. Supposedly, two King-Class vampires have been captured. News outlets all around the world are reporting on this matter. How could he be here in front of me now? It's fake. It's definitely fake.
With these thoughts in mind, Digby
looked at Nathan and the others. His expression morphed into one of mockery He sneered coldly, "Haha! It really takes all sorts to make world. There are even people like you who dare to impersonate our commander-in-chief. You must have a death wish."
"Someone, seize this imposter for me," he commanded.
"Yes, Colonel Digby!" The surrounding warriors, armed and ready, immediately stepped forward to arrest Nathan. Colin and Sevan grew furious.
"Who dares to touch him?"
Shadow Widow, Rulon, and Massimo were also furious. Massimo said angrily, "We'll fight whoever dares to touch Mr. Cross until the end! If you don't believe it, just try us."
Shadow Widow and Massimo were
not people to be messed with. As people who were either forsaken in the vampire-occupied territory or bounty hunters, they've only ever lived their lives on the edge. They were fearless. Upon hearing Digby's order for Nathan's arrest, they refused to let that happen. One after another, they drew their knives, swords, and guns, ready to take action. Digby couldn't help but be startled by the scene before him. Although he had twenty thousand guards behind him, there were still over ten thousand desperados in front of him. If a fight really broke out, even if he could suppress the rowdy crowd, it would likely be a Pyrrhic victory, and he couldn't afford to bear the consequences. His eyes darted around for a moment before he spoke in a more relaxed tone.
"Ahaha... Everyone, please hold your horses."
He continued, "I know that many of you here are genuine bounty hunters. I promise you, as long as you pay the customary toll, I can turn a blind eye and let you pass."
At that point, he paused before sneering coldly, "As for those without money, it's quite simple. I'll arrange for you to work, which you can consider as payment for passage."
As soon as he finished, those at the scene immediately began discussing quietly among themselves. Nathan frowned and asked Shadow Widow and the others, "What does he mean by 'customary toll"?"
Shadow Widow quietly explained, "It began when the alliance was formed and they started to surround the vampire-occupied territory."
She continued, "It doesn't matter if
we're survivors from the vampire-occupied territory or bounty hunters. It's become increasingly difficult for us humans to enter and exit the territory. The alliance guards all demand money from us. The toll could range from a few hundred to a few thousand Ariarican currency. It all depends on their mood and how much they want to collect."
