Chapter 784
Chapter 784:noveldrama
The chaos quickly caught the attention of Fiona’s father, Josh Smith, who finally walked into the banquet hall, his gaze sweeping over the mess.
“What’s going on here?” he demanded, noticing the guests already filing out.
“Sorry, Mr. Smith. We didn’t handle things well. Mr. Shaw had a disagreement with Miss Smith over his companion,” a waiter explained, recounting the events in detail.
Josh’s face darkened with fury.
“Fiona, my office. Now!” he snapped, then turned to the waiter, his voice firm. “Get the guests calmed down and tell them our banquet will begin soon. Do whatever it takes to keep them here!”
“Yes, Mr. Smith.”
In the office, the remnants of Fiona’s anger hung thick in the air. Her glare was lethal, as if ready to kill Allison at any moment.
Josh wore a deep frown, breaking the silence with a question. “Do you realize what today is?”
“Yes, the triennial banquet,” Fiona snapped back, her voice dripping with disdain. “But I can’t just sit back when she’s here! Her presence will influence the guests and tarnish our company!”
Suddenly, Josh’s patience snapped; his hand connected sharply with Fiona’s cheek. The slap resounded ominously, harsher than anything Verruckt’s cronies might have dared.
“Ouch!” Fiona’s voice broke, her eyes wide with shock and pain. “Dad, you hit me!”
Josh’s voice was icy as he rebuked her. “I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve told you to steer clear of Verruckt, yet here we are again!”
“You just don’t get it, Dad!” Fiona’s dismissal was swift, her cheek still red. She rubbed her stinging cheek, her voice tinged with bitterness. “Verruckt is a decent and smart man, worthy of me. He’s just been tricked by that woman, that’s all.”
Her words were laced with venom, fueled by the jealousy that seethed within her. Fiona envied Allison, who had captured Verruckt’s affections, his kisses. Imagining a world where she could simply erase Allison and step into her place consumed her.
Josh’s face grew colder as he listened to his daughter’s delusions. He knew talking was futile.
“Lock her in the top floor,” he commanded, his voice weary. “And she doesn’t leave without my say-so.”
No sooner had he spoken than two robust maids appeared, taking Fiona by the arms and escorting her out. The old butler watched Josh’s mood darken further and ventured cautiously, “Josh, don’t fret too much. She’ll come around with age.”
