The sudden criticism caught him completely off guard.

"You let Caroline meet Cameron alone? Spend the afternoon together-and have dinner?" David's voice was low and dangerous. "She's just a formulator. Cameron is a high-profile client. Their status isn't even close. Is that really how you handle things?"

Boris blinked, then exhaled in realization. So this was what had him worked up.

He arrived in the morning and left at night. No time for anything else." Boris drummed his fingers against the desk. "Is that explanation good enough for you? Or are you looking for something else, Mr. Ellison?"

David's expression didn't change.

"It doesn't matter what the circumstances were," he said. "Caroline shouldn't have been left alone with Cameron. If you weren't available, someone else should have been there."

"But she did exceptionally well." Boris countered. "In fact, Cameron messaged me last night-said he was pleased, enjoyed their discussion, and is looking forward to another meeting."
