Chapter 146 Is There Something Wrong With Gwenda’s Brain?
August raised an eyebrow. "Nope. But even if I don't tell her, she should remember it. If she can't, then
she doesn't have to come."
"What nonsense!"
Suzanne glared at him and said, "Remember to let her know. I want her to be with me during my
birthday celebration!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I will."
August promised, and Suzanne was able to have peace of mind.
...
A few days passed in the blink of an eye.
There was only one more day left before the birthday feast, and Gwenda had already gotten someone
to prepare a gift and ensured that her schedule was clear for that day.
Worried that she might forget, August kept reminding her through repeated calls.
"You've got to be there tomorrow, or grandmother will absolutely kill you."
"I know,"
"I know," Gwenda said as she dealt with the things she had on hand. "I say, August, you've been
reminding me at least four to five times these days. What, do you think I have dementia? That I can't
remember something like this?"
"Grandmother asked me to do this. She wants to make sure that you'll be there. Do you think I wanted
to remind you all the time?"
August snorted in a tsundere manner.
Gwenda burst out laughing. "I will be, don't worry. I've already prepared a gift for her, and I will be on
time tomorrow."
"Good, if there's nothing else, I'll be gone."
With this, August was about to hang up the phone when Gwenda called for him to wait.
...
"What? Was there something you needed?"
"Er... the project you talked about with Mr. Petit, is it going well?"
August chuckled. "Are you concerned about the project or about Olivier?"
Gwenda paused for a moment before stammering, "Of course I'm concerned about the project. It's not
like I asked about Olivier."
"Oh~ so you're concerned about the project."
August raised an eyebrow. "It's going quite well, and their company is quite satisfied with us. So, we've
signed the contract."
"Oh, that's good then..."
Gwenda paused again.
Hearing the way she faltered, August rolled his eyes impatiently and said, "Just ask if you want to!
Don't put on a show of being hesitant to me."
"I wasn't going to ask you anything. Bye."
"Wait!"
This time, August was the one who stopped her. "Olivier's gone on a business trip. I heard that there
was a problem with an overseas project, so Olivier's gone off to deal with it. Don't worry about him."
Hearing this, Gwenda felt relieved.
After the dinner, she noticed that Olivier seemed to have vanished as he did not call her nor text her as
much as he usually does.
She thought that it was due to what she had said to him, but now it seemed that she had been thinking
too much.
"What stage of your relationship are you both at? Have you gotten together? Since you seem to care
about him so much."
"Who said that I cared about him?" Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
Gwenda pouted. "I wasn't the one who asked about him, you were the one who told me yourself."
Hearing this, August scoffed and said, "Sure, sure, I was the one who told you about it. Keep
pretending, Gwenda, you brat."
He was so annoyed that he hung up the phone.
Gwenda could not be bothered to explain herself to August. After she lowered her phone, she
unconsciously tapped into WhatsApp to view Olivier's chat window.
It had been five days since the last time they talked.
The issue must be rather tricky if Olivier had vanished for so long without letting her hear from him.
Gwenda sighed softly and exited the app, putting her phone aside to resume working.
The day passed by very quickly.
...
The next evening, Gwenda prepared early and drove to the Reed family mansion with the birthday gift.
...
As night fell, the gates of the mansion were bustling with wealthy and important guests. All of them
were here to celebrate Suzanne's 80th birthday.
When Gwenda arrived, August and his mother, Macie Wong, were receiving guests at the door.
Upon seeing his cousin, August went up to her and said, "You're here."
"August."
Gwenda passed the birthday gift to the housekeeper nearby before looking at Macie.
Macie's face darkened when she saw her, a flicker of displeasure passing through her eyes.
Back then, they quarrelled with each other for a while.
Macie remembered how her niece was disrespectful to her elders. Now, coupled with the recent
rumours, she only felt more disdain towards Gwenda.
She thought that Gwenda would ignore her, but she did not expect Gwenda to take the initiative to
greet her when she saw her.
"Hello, Aunt Macie."
Stunned, Macie gave her a look before smiling quickly. "Welcome."
"Thanks, it's grandma's birthday today, so I got here a little early. If there's anything you need me to
help out with, Aunt Macie, just let me know."
Gwenda spoke to her in a calm and respectful tone of voice. Gone was the spoiled and arrogant
attitude that she used to have.
Hearing this, Macie looked at her in surprise as if she did not know her. "You..."
"There's nothing we need your help with here. Just head inside. Grandmother's waiting for you."
August spoke up to help defuse the situation from becoming awkward and got a maid to guide Gwenda
inside.
Seeing this, Gwenda nodded before looking at Macie once more. "Well, Aunt Macie, I'll be heading
inside."
"Okay."
Macie watched as she went through the door. After Gwenda was out of earshot, Macie spoke up. "Is
there something wrong with Gwenda’s brain?"
