Chapter 38 The Plaintiff Dropped the Lawsuit, and You may File a Counterclaim

"What’s going on?" Staring at the empty plaintiff seat opposite him, Stephen asked Lillian in puzzlement.

Lillian shook her head, not knowing what was happening either. "Let’s wait. Maybe he’ll arrive soon."

Sebastian took a seat in the auditoria. The lawyer he had hired had already sat down at Lillian’s side. The most famous lawyers of Millpond had both come to help Lillian, so there was a good chance that they would win the lawsuit. Did the plaintiff get cold feet because he had known that?

Sebastian ran his eyes over the whole audience and didn’t see Archibald among the sparse crowd. Was he really not coming today?

Time ticked by, and the plaintiff seat was still empty. When the crowd was getting impatient waiting, someone came in all of a sudden. He said to the presiding judge, "I’m sorry. I came on behalf of the radio station. The radio station has decided to withdraw the charge and drop the lawsuit. The radio station would like to settle the matter with Miss Spencer in private."

What? Drop the lawsuit?

Lillian looked at this man in surprise. What did he mean by that? Was it a fun thing to do to go to court? She hadn’t eaten or slept well these days. Besides, Stephen had spent some good money hiring a great lawyer. And now, the case was over after someone said the radio station wanted to drop the lawsuit?

Lillian took a deep breath and almost got mad!

The presiding judge was also unhappy to hear that. He stared at Lillian and asked, "Defendant, you may file a counterclaim, and we can reach a verdict in court without the presence of the plaintiff."

File a counterclaim? Lillian’s eyes glinted. Of course she would, because why not?

However, Stephan stopped her and said in a low voice, "You haven’t canceled the contract with the radio station yet. Are you sure you want to counter charge?"

Lillian looked back at Stephan and glanced at the two lawyers behind her. Now she was standing in court with such great legal aid, should she waste all of them? Lillian stared at that handsome Lawyer Bennett and asked, "Lawyer Bennett, are you sure we’ll win if I counter charge?"

Lawyer Bennett gave a faint smile. "In my record, there’s no such thing as failure."

He sounded arrogant, and was worthy of the name of the best lawyer. Lillian smacked her hand down on the desk immediately. "Fine, then we’ll counter charge!"

Those who didn’t know would think that this woman would lead a charge against her enemy. Stephen shook his head helplessly.

Of course, Lillian won the case at last. She threw herself down at the best lawyer, Lawyer Bennett’s feet in admiration. In the definitive sentence, the radio station had to compensate her with a sum of money to cover part of her cost. Nothing was more satisfying than this.

"Lawyer Bennett, finally I’ve learned what’s a real silver tongue today. Is each word spat out from your mouth worth thousands of money?" Lillian exclaimed.

"You’re flattering me, Miss Spencer. Not up to thousands of money, maybe hundreds of." Lawyer Bennett raised his dashing eyebrows slightly, looking proud and confident.

Lillian couldn’t help laughing. Lawyer Bennett was not being humble at all. At the thought of him acting in an orderly way while staying aggressive in court, Lillian believed that he deserved to be called the best lawyer.

Sebastian hadn’t seen Archibald until the end of the trial, nor had he expected that the radio station would drop the case so abruptly. Could it be because Archibald had long known that the radio station would make such a decision that he hadn’t come?

Sebastian had originally wanted to have Lillian cancel her contract with the radio station by bringing a lawyer here with him. But now, not only hadn’t she canceled her contract, but she needed to settle the matter in private. Did it mean that the radio station had decided to make a compromise?

When Lillian was about to get in the car with Stephen, Sebastian walked over suddenly. "Lillian, get in my car."

The smile on Lillian’s face froze. She stared at the man with a grim face in front of her in confusion. "If you have anything to say, say it now."

Sebastian was not in the mood to say anything. He grabbed Lillian’s wrist and walked towards his car. No one present was prepared for the sudden drama. Just as Lillian’s bodyguards were about to step forward, Sebastian’s bodyguards had blocked their way. Meanwhile, the journalists were surging up to them, so Lillian was stuffed into his car by Sebastian in the chaos.

Soon, the car started and was out of sight. Stephen watched the car speeding away in anger and turned to get into his car to chase it. He knew clearly that Sebastian had never been kind to Lillian.

In the car, Lillian tried her best to draw back her hand and glared at the man in front of her. "Sebastian, what do you want?"

"Terminate your contract with the radio station and join my company," Sebastian didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point.

Lillian massaged her red and swollen wrist and asked with incomprehension, "Why?"

There was not many expressions on Sebastian’s stern face. He took out the cigarette box and lit one cigarette up. When he blew out a stream of white smoke, Sebastian stared at Lillian with his cold eyes.

"What you want is nothing but a better development. Since Archibald can make you popular, I can too. You know very well the position of my media company in Millpond, even in the whole country. I’m able to offer the best platform for you," Sebastian said slowly.

Lillian listened to him silently, an ironic smile climbing up to her lips. She snorted, "Sebastian, what were you doing early on? Don’t you think it’s a bit too late to talk about this now?"

The cigarette between his fingers glowed and faded, and he narrowed his eyes slightly. "It’s not too late now. Or, do you really want to hook up with Archibald?" His voice became harsh suddenly.

The mockery in Lillian’s eyes turned into anger. "Sebastian!"

He kept spitting out those mean words, "Lillian, don’t forget that you’re already married now. Just think about it. Do you think someone like you deserves the young master from the top wealthy family of Millpond?"

Sebastian’s words made Lillian’s heart skip a beat. She stared at him with cold eyes. "Sebastian, I don’t need Archibald to make me popular, nor do I need your charity. Just put your mind on Joanna. If you keep in touch with me, I’m afraid she will cut her wrist instead of swallowing up pills next time!" RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

Sebastian knit his brows suddenly. "Lillian, be grateful. Why do you think Archibald made you popular? He did that on the spur of the moment. When he gets tired of you, you will be no better than a piece of shit to him!"

Lillian chuckled. "I don’t think I’m better than that in front of you." She looked out of the window, unwilling to talk with him anymore. Then she blurted, "Stop here."

"Lillian!"

"I asked you to stop here! I don’t want to argue with you!"

This time, Lillian didn’t answer Sebastian with a carefree smile as usual, but her temper now also made him furious!

The air over the backseat seemed to have become thinner. The two of them glowered at each other. After some time, Sebastian said in an extremely cold voice, "Stop here."

The driver, who had already broken into a cold sweat on the back, pulled over immediately, and soon came the noise of the car door being slammed.

Sebastian’s grim face grew tight. The car started again, and Lillian’s figure was getting smaller in the rearview mirror. However, she didn’t cast another glance at him throughout.

Lillian stood beside the road filled with the flood of vehicles. With a noise of a car screeching to a halt, Stephen’s black Audi Q7 stopped in front of her. Stephen, gentle as usual, saw Lillian standing by the road soullessly, and frowned in anxiety.

"Lillian? What happened?" Stephen held Lillian’s shoulders, looked down at her and asked. He wondered by instinct if she was having a relapse.
