Chapter 72
ADLEY
I tried to wrap my head around the fact that he figured out just like that. Well, he was smart and managed to put two and two together. And couldn’t I be any more obvious? I froze in his lap.
My mind was puzzled. I lay flat in the bed, staring at the ceiling while Mykel was asking me too many questions at a time. I got it, and he was curious and excited while I was dizzy and confused.
I was still in my robe, naked beneath. His hand was on my tummy, dreaming of my little peanut’s future.
“When can we find out our baby’s gender?” The last question made me groan.
I squeezed my eyes shut. “Stop. Stop. I’m gonna throw up if you keep asking.”
He was on his elbows, stiffened all of a sudden. “I’m sorry. I’m just terribly happy. We’re gonna be parents, baby. And I promise to be with you every step of the way. We can do this.”
“We didn’t even plan for this.”
He let go a long sigh. “Here you go again.”
“Don’t talk to me about spontaneity. That put me in a lot of trouble, by the way.”
“Who cares about plans? It’s blessings, Adley Xael. We didn’t plan this one, but this is it. It’s happening.” He stopped.
I looked at him when he seemed to have figured out something else. “What?”
“Fuck. Fuck.” He shook his head. His face contorted in terrible pain. “That makes sense now.”
“What is it?”
He lay closer to me, wrapped his arms around me, letting me rest on his arm. “I’m so sorry that you found out the same time I told you that I could be a possibly father.”
“It’s fine.”
“It’s not fine to me, baby. I wouldn’t wonder why you hate me and wanna move out. That was supposed to be our moment together, finding out we were pregnant.” He breathed out in shuddered. “I don’t know how you can forgive me, but I’m still asking.”
“Will you please stop? I don’t hate you. I was hurt, but judging your decision and not trusting you was also a mistake.”
“I still wish I could have been there for you.”
“You’re here now. That’s what matters. Are you sure you’re okay knocking up your wife even if I was on a pill?”
He looked at me for a couple of seconds before he smiled. “Deep in my soul, I wished you missed your dose.”
“You’re terrifying me sometimes.”
“I will always be here for you. I made a terrible mistake for not being involved with Jax growing up. I’m not gonna let that happen again.”
This time I let go a long sigh. “What gave it away?”
I glared at him when he shook against me. His eyes sparkled with wickedness. “For the love of God. It has nothing to do with pregnancy.”
He pressed his lips together to contain his laughter.
“It’s just. I don’t know. I feel dirty, and my body is overly sensitive. I’m emotionally raw and fragile. These hormone craps are driving me insane.”
“I noticed that too. Now that I know you’re not going to deal with that alone. We’re gonna celebrate.”
“No!” I was quick in my seat.
“Why not?”
“No celebration until I’m ready to tell everyone. I wanna protect my child.”
“You mean our child.”
“Yeah. Sorry. Hours ago, I was still figuring things out alone. Our baby.”
“Okay, baby. Come back here.” He held my hand. “Let me guess that’s what the call is all about? We have an appointment?”
I admitted I was surprised that he was taking it all well than I had anticipated. Mykel really changed.
“Yeah. You figured out because I avoided alcohol?”
“Yeah. Among other things.”
“Just so you know, I never missed my pills. We should have used the condoms you bought.”
“I thank God we didn’t. And I’m not blaming you, baby. I already told you that I wanna have kids with you. You planned to have a baby after a few years. You know, when boy meets girls and fuck each other-”
“You better stop cursing.” I elbowed him.
“Sorry. Do you always feel nauseated in the morning?”
“We’re not playing twenty questions.” I got up from bed. I put on the clothes he had prepared for me.
“Your body hasn’t changed.”
“You’re not an observant after all.”
“Aside from your hips and maybe your tits, I can barely notice your baby bump. You’re still far from turning into a hippo.”
I laughed. “You remember, huh?”
“Of course.”
“Who else knows?”
“Blaze. I didn’t tell Grandpa.”
“He figured out himself.”
I joined him in bed and tucked myself into the blanket.
“I think so. Jade. The first time she looked at me, she knew. I was so terrified that she might tell you. I begged her not to.”
“Jade is a good person, and I almost destroyed her life.”
“She also chose her own path to be a good mother. Jax is adorable.”
“I’m glad you think so.”
“I could never hate your kid, Mykel. Keep that in mind. And if I did not think about you, I could have just left you and lived somewhere with our child. Somehow, I still thought of your feelings for me, and I couldn’t let our baby grow up without a father. However, I considered it the night I found out. But if I did that, that was on me, and they would blame me for the rest of my life.”
“I’m happy to hear that you consider my feelings.”
I faced him. “It’s not about us anymore, babe. If you’re still on board, we’ll raise our little human inside me together.”
He kissed my lips. “Always on board.”
I yawned. “I’m getting some sleep.”
“Is yoga okay for pregnant women?”
I rolled my eyes and turned away from him. He still wrapped his arm around me securely. “Do you think I would do something to harm myself? Or yeah, maybe sex isn’t safe for preggy, too.”
“Good question.” He pinched my arm. “I was just asking, baby. So you’re about three?”
I groaned. “Babe, please?”
“Hush now. Good night, baby, and to you, sport.”
“Don’t call him that.”
“Or her.”

I watched Mykel in awe as he never left his focus on the monitor.
“Is that heartbeat normal?”
“Yes, Mr. Creed. You start to get worried if the heartbeat slows down.”
He was so curious about everything. “Is it safe for her to travel or sit longer?”
“Yes. She can still travel until early in the last trimester. I advise you for a quick check-up before you travel, Adley.”
“You didn’t mention if our baby is a girl or a boy.”
My doctor gave me a look before she replied, “It depends on both of you.”
“I don’t wanna know just yet.” I rushed out my words.
“Okay, baby.” He kissed my forehead. “I’m still investing in the motion-sensor security system.”
My doctor smiled. “Not everyone can afford to protect their child. So, why not? Are you still experiencing morning sickness?”
I sat down after the nurse cleaned my tummy. “I think my morning sickness is stress-related. As long as I got enough sleep, I’m good.”
“Your wife is lucky, Mr. Creed. Her pregnancy is going through smoothly.”
“She deserves it. If I could take all her pain and suffering, I would.”
“You two have discussed your delivery plan?”
Mykel and I looked at each other. I tried to say something, but my mind went blank.
“It’s okay. Take your time to talk over.” She grabbed a leaflet and gave it to me. “Since finances is not an issue, you both decide which one is suited for you.”
“Thanks.” I suddenly felt queasy. “Now I feel suddenly nervous.”
“It’s normal.”
“Take it easy, baby.” He squeezed my hand. “We’ll take your advice into consideration. Thank you.”
I drew a deep breath as soon as we left the maternity hospital. I did a breathing exercise to calm my nerves. I had not thought of going on a delivery. Now my doctor had mentioned it-I felt terrified.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah. Give me a minute,” I told Mykel.
“Take the time you need.”
I chuckled at my stupidity. “And here I planned of going through my pregnancy alone. I missed considering to huge fact, the reality of being in long labor pain for hours.”
“Baby, take it easy. As much as I love to talk about labor, I don’t want to see you in pain. We have a lot of options, but we’re not talking about this in the parking lot, okay?”
“Okay. Just give me a moment. I need some air.”
“Okay. I’ll be in the car.” He walked to the car.
All of a sudden, I watched and grimaced at the heavily pregnant woman, whining in pain as she was transferred into a wheelchair. Her hair was messy, and she was profusely sweating. And that was going to be me in less than six months.
“Bitch!”
I jumped in my place as someone just bumped my shoulder. With my heart still in my throat, I turned to the voice next to me. I froze and felt like turning into a stone to find Gary standing right in front of me with red eyes. His face was flushed in so much anger.
“W-what-”
“You ruined my life!”
I was just staring at him. My feet weighed tons, even if my brain told me to run. I was still stiffed as a corpse and shocked to react and even protect myself until I found myself on the ground, whining in pain. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.
Gary just pushed me.
