Chapter 496
Matthew never thought that Caleb had that sort of relationship with Jane. However, all of these were just empty words to him. A grifter would never tell the truth.
"You sound like you're telling the truth, but I won't believe you!" Matthew said.
Upon hearing that, Caleb became even more anxious. "I really am telling the truth. You have to trust me! Their original target was Old Fox.
"In the world of grifters, Old Fox is the master among the experts. Besides, he once won the bet over me where I lost my eyes to him and installed an electronic eye and microcomputer.
"The first and foremost target of Red Wolves is Old Fox. They don't think I'm worth their time at all. But... Old Fox really is a sly one!
"Who knows how he caught wind of that news and decided to lock himself up to hide from Red Wolves?
"In the end, Red Wolves set me up and kidnapped my wife and kids to make me obey their commands!"
So, the reason Darrell was in jail was due to this particular reason?
At first, Matthew didn't believe Caleb at all, but now, he seemed to have started to trust him a little. At the very least, it was true that Darrell landed himself in jail.
When Caleb noticed that Matthew was in deep thought, he continued, saying, "Everything I said is true. Just think about it.
"Grifters like us spend immense effort to master our skills so we can earn some money and live a carefree life. No one would like to live as someone else's pawn.
"If it weren't for my wife and kids, do you think I'd be stuck playing poker in this tiny room?
"In the past, I always used to play hands worth millions. The winnings from a round of Blackjack here don't even come close to what I used to tip the dealers!"
Matthew nodded as he thought about it. With the electronic eyes Caleb had installed, he wouldn't be stuck in this tiny room if he wanted to win big bucks.
Matthew then turned to Jane and kicked her lightly. "I know you're awake, so stop acting!"
Jane fluttered her eyelids for a little and stopped afterward. Then, she waited for a while before she slowly opened her eyes. She couldn't put on her act of being unconscious any longer.
She gently massaged her chin as she stood up. It was still hurting as if she had just taken a hit.
Seeing Matthew standing there, Jane quickly put on her charming smile and said, "Matty, didn't we agree to drink at my house tonight? Why'd you hit me all of a sudden?"
Matthew replied in a frosty tone, "Aren't you gonna say anything?"
Jane flashed her charming smile yet again and locked her mesmerizing eyes onto Matthew's cold and stern ones.
"Do you really believe that a weak woman like me would be from Red Wolves? Do you really think I'd be able to control all those burly men?"
After she said that, she leaned in closer to Matthew and bumped into him slightly with her full figure.
When Matthew saw how Jane presented herself, his eyes turned even sharper. "You're very charming and coquettish, but you shouldn't have shown your murderous intent to me.
"I'll give you a chance to spit it out yourself. Don't push your luck!"
Jane then smiled and asked, "Do you have a wife?"
Matthew replied coldly, "We're divorced. Shut up with your nonsense and get to the point!"
In response, Jane parted her lips slightly and puffed up her cheeks before she blew a breath at Matthew. However, Matthew
maintained his cold gaze at her, and his expression did not waver in the slightest.
Jane then revealed an alluring smile, but the words she spoke brought a cutting chill. "Matthew, you should have kids, right? You have your parents as well!
"Even if you've never considered your own safety, you should be thinking of theirs. Don't offend someone you can't handle on an impulse, or your whole family dies! It's not worth it!"
Matthew narrowed his eyes sharply at her threat, and his face twisted in anger. He looked as if he was beast that had been provoked, and he radiated an overwhelming sense of ferocious hatred. noveldrama
He pressed the gun against Jane's chest. "Are you threatening me? Do you really think I won't shoot you?"
Jane cast a sultry glance at the gun pressed against her chest. She wasn't scared of it, and even took half a step forward.
The ice-cold barrel of the gun sank into her cleavage and only left the grip of the gun in Matthew's hand visible.
Jane then smiled even more seductively as she said, "Matthew, you have no idea how grand the Red Wolves are. They are everywhere and all across this land.
"Caleb was once a powerful figure as well, with an inheritance worth more than ten billion. He had quite a number of Executioners who swore their loyalty to him, but he's nothing more than an ant in the face of Red Wolves!

"You don't even have one percent of the influence Caleb once had, so you won't
be able to handle it any better than he could!
"Do you really dare to shoot me now that I'm standing in front of you?"
Soon after she said that, Jane pressed her chest forward, and the cold barrel of the gun disappeared completely into her cleavage.
Matthew's eyes were as cold as ever, but he took two steps back, and the gun followed as it left Jane's chest.
Once Jane saw that Matthew had retreated, a smile of victory tugged at her lips. "That's right. Anyone in their right mind would cower under the grand might of Red Wolves."
