The Silent 683
683.Chapter 683
"Alright, I won't kill your son for now. But if you don't want to die, then get out of my sight! Otherwise, I'll turn both of you into breeding grounds!" Sophie snapped, her voice sharp with irritation.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Sophie realized she might have let something slip.
But she quickly brushed it off. In her eyes, someone as dim-witted as Adeline could never understand what parasites were, let alone the meaning of "breeding grounds."
What Sophie didn't know was that Adeline had already figured everything out.
The connection between parasite eggs and breeding grounds was crystal clear to Adeline.
She stole a glance at Caleb's wounds, her teeth sinking into her lower lip until she tasted blood. But the pain didn't even register, her heart was already breaking. 'Hold on, Caleb. I promise I'll come back for you soon,' she vowed silently.
Under Sophie's cold, watchful gaze, Adeline had no choice but to leave, even though every step away from Caleb felt like a dagger twisting in her heart.
She had to act fast to hide the spider.
The best place would be near Dale,
Eliza had said the spider could protect them, and Adeline clung to that hope like a lifeline.
With Sophie keeping Caleb under constant watch, there was no way to hide the spider near him.
So Adeline decided to place it near Dale. If something went wrong, maybe the spider could protect him. It wasn't much, but it was the only chance she had.
Without wasting another moment, Adeline turned and left.
Sophie kept her gaze fixed on Adeline, unable to shake the feeling that something about her was off.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't quite put her finger on what the issue
was
After a moment's thought, Sophie reached out with her senses again to check on the parasite eggs inside Adeline.
They were still alive
Successfully unlocked!
The only thing was, it seemed like some of them had died off at some point.

But, a few dead eggs during incubation was nothing unusual.
After all, neither Adeline nor Dale's bodies had been fully transformed into ideal hosts
yet.
It was perfectly normal for parasite eggs to struggle to adapt.
Unable to figure out what was wrong, Sophie quickly shook her head and dismissed the thought.
"Forget it," she muttered to herself. "That old hag is just a coward at heart. With Caleb and Dale backing her up, there's no way Adeline would dare to stir up any real trouble, no matter how capable she thinks she is."
The priority now was dealing with the sorcerer hiding in the shadows.
Sophie frowned, her gaze fixed on the raging flames before her.
She hadn't expected the foreign parasite to be so patient. The house was already burned to a crisp, yet the parasite hidden inside hadn't made a move.
"Wait, something's off!"
Suddenly, Sophie realized something, and her expression shifted dramatically.
No matter if it was a person or a parasite, there was no way it could stay calm after being roasted alive in that inferno for so long.
There was only one explanation-the thing inside had already escaped. "Someone, come here!"
"Yes, ma'am!"
Two servants rushed over at her command.
Sophie's face darkened as she ordered, 'Keep a close watch on Lady Adeline and Lord Dale! Don't let them step out of their rooms without my permission!"
"Understood!" came the swift reply.
The two servants quickly hurried off to carry out her orders.
Before long, Adeline was placed under house arrest.
Meanwhile, Sophie kept her eyes locked on the blazing fire.
Her eyes narrowed dangerously, a sharp glint flashing in them.
"I wonder where Father found such a skilled sorcerer. Their abilities are truly impressive"
It was clear she couldn't handle this alone. She needed reinforcements.
As soon as the thought crossed her mind, Sophie turned and strode away without
hesitation.

Meanwhile, on the other side.
"Did you get all the details?"
At the Padilla family mansion.
Only after the banquet had ended and all the guests were seen off did Eliza finally have a moment to rest.
She propped her chin up with one hand and let out a small yawn.
Before she could finish yawning, a soft pat sound came from outside the window.
Without opening her eyes, Eliza said calmly, "Use the door next time. Stop sneaking in through my window."
A silly chuckle came from outside.
Soon after, the culprit strolled in like he owned the place, flashing a grin at the maids on his way in.
"Eliza, your favorite little brother is back! Aren't you happy to see me? Oh... Your Highness? You still here, huh?"
Rafe's words faltered as his gaze landed on Nolan.
Nolan met his gaze with a look of indifference, as if Rafe wasn't even worth
acknowledging. Rafe's mouth twitched in irritation.
"Didn't all the guests leave already? Why is the Prince Regent still hanging around?" he asked, his tone dripping with dissatisfaction.
Nolan cast him a cold glance and replied, "That's none of your business."
"Of course it is! This is my sister's house, and you, Your Highness, have no official standing here. Don't you think it's a bit inappropriate to linger like this?" Rafe shot back, deliberately emphasizing "no official standing."
Nolan's lips curled into a frosty smile. "Even so, my status is still leagues above yours."
Rafe felt the sting of those words like a knife to the gut.
After all, everyone knew he was just an illegitimate child.
Though he referred to himself as her "little brother," their half-sibling bond, born of
their father's betrayal, made any real closeness impossible.
Feeling like he'd lost this round, Rafe shot Nolan a resentful glare before quickly changing the subject.
"Eliza, I've tracked down the people you asked me to investigate. Should I go grab
them now?"
What do you think?
