Chapter 1960 Meeting Enoch
Chapter 1960 Meeting Enoch
"I'm Odin, the Godly Genius of the Ghost Fief. I came here to see you,"
Rocky proclaimed as he appeared before Enoch.
"It's you!" A shocked expression flashed across Enoch's face, and he immediately grew wary of his surprise visitor.
"I can't believe how carefree you are! Even facing the royal army can't stop you from taking delight in the pleasures of life, huh?" Rocky uttered playfully, gazing at the lovely ladies gracing Enoch's bed.
"You can leave now." With a curt nod, Enoch ordered the girls around him out of the room. He figured Rocky had planned this from the start, so he must keep his wits about him.
The girls instantly took off just as they were told.
"I don't think you are here simply to disturb my enjoyment, Odin. What do you want? Have you come to surrender to me?" Enoch asked disdainfully. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
"And what good would it do to me if I surrender to you?" Rocky asked back, his eyebrows raised in derision.
"Oh, trust me, you'll receive tons of benefits. You can become my right-hand man with your strength, and if you are willing to hand over the Purgatorial Tripod, I promise that you will be second only to me in the future," Enoch offered sincerely this time, and the haughty tone of his voice all but vanished. The battle in the Ghostly Demon Land revealed that Rocky was a big threat, and the Purgatorial Tripod was still in his hands too. Therefore, Enoch had to do something about him. If he couldn't take Rocky down now, he could at least recruit the young man to his side. Anyway, now that the king had stripped Layla of her royal identity and declared Zain as his successor, the royal family wouldn't have a problem suppressing the Ghost Fief.
According to some rumors, Gilbert wanted to ingratiate himself to Zain, and the man had even taken the initiative to request the king to let him lead an army to support the royal army. How could a man of Rocky's exceptional talents work under Gilbert? Enoch figured that Rocky must be discontented too, and that was the reason the young man came to him today. Rocky probably wanted to show his sincerity and work with him.
"That sounds good." Rocky nodded, looking satisfied by Enoch's proposal.
"Tell me, what exactly do you want?" Enoch couldn't help but ask.
"I'm actually here to help you," Rocky answered bluntly.
"Huh? I didn't expect that you would be so kind. It's more plausible that Zain sent you here on purpose. He knows that you have what I want, so he set such a trap to trick me." A dubious frown darkened Enoch's features as he spoke.
"You're thinking too much. Have you forgotten that I work for Princess Layla? Knowing that, do you think Prince Zain will trust me? It was not too long ago that Leader Gilbert and I led the Ghost Fief's army to conquer the Wind Plain and tricked you into dividing your troops. However, although we succeeded, Prince Zain discarded us like trash. Instead of rewarding us, he even added insult to injury and relegated the Ghost Fief's army into taking care of logistics. Do you think we will voluntarily follow such a despicable man?" Rocky ranted disdainfully, using the Wind Plain as an excuse to make Enoch believe him.
"That makes sense. Zain has indeed gone too far! It is an impressive achievement that the Ghost Fief's army dominated the Wind Plain and even forced me to distribute troops. He should have rewarded you instead of turning his back on you. He doesn't seem to respect you at all," Enoch added. He obviously believed Rocky's words and wanted to stoke his anger against Zain.
"That's why Prince Zain can't become the king. If such a despicable person rules the Shura Race, we will be doomed!" Rocky went on as if he was incensed.
"And now, you want to work for someone else? Of course, that makes sense. If you follow me, I promise you will have endless fortune in the future!" Once again, Enoch tempted Rocky with fame and fortune.
"Actually, I'm here on behalf of Princess Layla," Rocky answered.
"Layla? She is no longer a royal member, isn't she? Oh! You must be doing this to avenge her. After all, Zain robbed her of the position of heir," Enoch remarked, his eyes narrowed in thought.
"Although she is no longer a royal member, it doesn't mean that she won't make a comeback. That is, of course, if she is given the chance..." As Rocky spoke, he leveled a meaningful look toward Enoch.
"Do you mean she is open to working with me?" Enoch asked. Even without an explicit answer, he already knew what Rocky meant.
"If you can defeat Prince Zain in this coming battle, the royal family will be disgraced. Princess Layla will take this opportunity to regain her royal identity, and she will request to lead the army herself. When that time comes, we will work together to launch a sneak attack on the royal family." Rocky readily explained his plan.
"Your plan is sound, but how do I know I can trust you? Perhaps, you can give me some kind of guarantee, like the Purgatorial Tripod for example." Enoch wasn't a fool. He wouldn't trust Rocky easily, and this was an excellent opportunity to obtain the Purgatorial Tripod.
"Unfortunately, I had to surrender the Purgatorial Tripod to the king. If you don't believe me, you can send someone to investigate this matter," Rocky answered honestly. He had to sacrifice the tripod in exchange for Layla's freedom, after all.
"Is that so? How unfortunate..." Enoch studied Rocky suspiciously. He had a little doubt, but he figured Rocky wouldn't lie to him. It would be futile since he could easily find out the truth as soon as he ordered a thorough investigation.
"So, if you want to get the Purgatorial Tripod and solve this pressing problem, you have no choice but to cooperate with me," Rocky claimed bluntly.
For a moment, Enoch was lost in thought. He couldn't tell whether Rocky genuinely wanted to help him, or if he had a more selfish agenda. However, the young man's suggestion was indeed tempting. In this current situation, it wouldn't be easy for Enoch to claim the victory, but it would be a different story with Rocky on his side.
"You don't have to give me an answer right away, but I'm afraid we are on borrowed time. Prince Zain will probably make a move soon, and in three days' time, you won't be able to keep your place," Rocky warned. He had to put some pressure on Enoch because he didn't want the other man to think too much about it. Otherwise, Enoch might realize what he had planned.
Enoch frowned. He thought Rocky had a point. His army missed the power of the fifty thousand soldiers he had sent to the Wind Plain, and coupled with the loss of the fierce battle in the past few days, only around one hundred and thirty thousand soldiers were left. Compared to his army, the royal army had at least twice the number of soldiers. If they continued at this rate, Enoch's army couldn't hold on longer in the next few days.
"I assume you have a plan on how to take down the royal family's army?" Enoch asked Rocky after a brief moment of silence.
"Yeah. You must let Prince Zain take control of the Red River Valley!" Rocky instantly answered, revealing that he indeed had a plan. But his words shocked Enoch.
"What? That's preposterous! If I let him take the Red River Valley, my territory's borders will be vulnerable to the royal army. I would be courting death if I did that!" Enoch protested at once. He felt that Rocky was playing a trick on him.
"Please listen first. Once the royal army has taken the Red River Valley, you must send people to burn the whole valley and contaminate the water in the valley. At that time, I will also make my move. I'll make sure that all provisions and fodders of the royal army will be cut off. At the same time, you can ask the fifty thousand soldiers in the Wind Plain to return and seal off the Red River Valley's entrance. The royal army won't be able to retaliate because of their low morale. After all, with the entrance blocked, they are trapped inside the valley with no food and water. Once they are sufficiently discouraged, you can lead your army into the valley and slaughter the entire army of the royal family!" Rocky wisely suggested.
A big grin brightened Enoch's face. He patted his thigh excitedly and remarked, "That's a great idea. Why didn't I think of that before? You are indeed a genius!"
